View Full Version : Acts which, upon more exposure, you now wish you had seen but didn't

I know, it's a wordy category, but I can't believe I blew off Arcade Fire having now (1) seen the ball drop and (2) played The Suburbs over and over.

Foster the People have grown on me as well.

The Drums and YACHT are in this category as well.

I feel like this thread would better if it was the opposite, where we talk about bands we saw before they were popular. It'd be cool to share stories.

Because, with this thread title, it applies to everything.

Fucking Bach.

I like the idea above, but to answer the original one, I too would say Foster the People was a good one I missed I wish I hadn't.

I usually never have regrets before this year.

09= Public Enemy
10= The XX
11= Sasha, Arcade Fire, Crystal Castles, Chromeo

Edit: Wait, I'm an idiot. I can't read.

I missed The White Stripes and The Mars Volta in 2003. I probably wouldn't have really appreciated either at the time anyways since I was pretty deep into my electronic music at that point. Underworld and Mouse on Mars were the reason I went. At this point in my life I wish I would have seen The Stripes and Volta.

Yeah, my 10-year old wasn't too interested in this. Not exactly his speed. Good article on him (GSH, not my ten year old) in the New Yorker within the past year.

FlyLo: If I knew how awesome FlyLo's live sets are back then that Saturday, I would've forced my bitchy friend to stay and watch it

Delphic: I would've arrived earlier to see Delphic, but they didn't make it LOL

I'll never get over the fact that I still listened to pretty shitty music at my first Coachella and could have seen fucking Mogwai... I saw Coheed and Cambria. Of course I've seen Mogwai 5 times since, but still.

I'm sure there are others, but that one sticks out the most. If only I did more research in 2006.

Wish I'd seen Chromeo instead of The Strokes this year. Seems like it would have been a really fun set. But other than that, no regrets.

This is the unending dilemma of any great music fest. You will ALWAYS miss something. Stop trying so hard.

I don't think the point of the thread is how did conflicts fuck me over, its what bands/artists do you regret not seeing when they were less popular.

I regret missing Flying Lotus' set.

Fever Ray is the only one I can think of from Coachella.

I skipped Robyn at Roskilde last year... like I walked right by and barely slowed down. Nothing else was going on. I think I went back to my tent and took sleeping pills. :/

Elbow. I didn't realize how incredible they are until a few weeks after this year's Coachella.

I luckily bought a ticket to see them at the Greek Theatre in order to remedy the pain of missing them.

Leonard Cohen in '09. Never really listened to him except for a few songs. After Coachella, I started to and he quickly became one of my favorite singer/songwriters ever. Plus the fact he doesn't have too much time left to perform.

didn't catch roska but the other sets you listed were pretty great; breakage's was especially nice, good track selection.

not to rub it in your face, just in case you were wondering if they were enjoyable or not.

I ended up catching Breakage at Noctunal this year, one of the best dubstep sets I've ever seen. Now I just wish I could've seen him twice!

Edit: Just downloaded Zinc's "Crackhouse Vol. 2"...I will never forgive myself for missing his set.

Some of these I missed due to conflicts rather than lack of exposure but ya now I am wishing more than ever that there had not been said conflicts upon listening to them more and more, also due to musical preference shifts, 2011 has been the year I finally started to appreciate real Techno as well as some of the more chill side of dubstep(post-dub they are calling it)... thank god for a (comparatively) conflict-free twochella 2012!!!
