Alright, this year, 2011, was my first Coachella expericence. It was more than I could have imagined. I want to know how it rates to previous years....Let me know what years you think were the best.

In terms of overall experience, 2011 was the best year I have attended. Not necssarily the best for music, but when you factor everything in, it was my favorite year.

Only been 09, 10, and 11.

But 2010 was my favorite. Amazing set after amazing set after amazing set. No disappointments (sans Gossip & MGMT) just exceeded expectations (Gil Scott-Heron & DJ Lance Rock)

THIS... but 2008 will forever remain my favorite!

for my experiences

06 was an eye opener
07 was just a crazy party
08 was THE PEAK of my coachella: musically and emotionaly
09 was all about seeing Paul McCartney outside of that. . . .
10 was kind of a clusterfuck but still fun
11 was the comeback, so much fun maybe because 10 lowered my expectations

You were disappointed in Gossip?

Yeah. But maybe I was expecting something crazier than what they normally are. Plus hearing my friends rave about the XX and seeing how easy it was to get close to Corrine Bailey Rae makes me regret it.

2008 will forever remain my favorite!

Acid + Roger Waters + plus a projector playing the wizard of oz + prince + portishead + kraftwerk + Jack Johnson + Fatboy Slim + garbage can dance party + free vegan burritos (i'm not vegan) + dancing with some hippie buddhist guy who had finger symbols = a great fucking weekend

I've been every year expect the first Coachella (99) and 2004 was the most magical experience of my life. After that? 2005 & 2007 stand out. Last year was fantastic, probably just a step below those three. 2010 was the worst because of the overcrowding. I dont know how long Ill go to Coachella, but the answer has been the same for several years; at least once more.

07 i only went saturday but that was the best single day I've ever been to
08 Brought my best friend for his first time & musically, the lineup sinked up with so much of my favorites at the time. Fave year.
09 Pretty boring. Lot's of disappointing acts.
10 2cnd fave year
11 Fantastic

asking to choose is like asking which of my children I love more... ok I don't have any kids, and I'd probably say
1) 2006 - the first day all that really mattered was daft punk. Day two, going from Massive Attack to The Go Team to The Scissor Sisters did it for me.
2) 2011 - Relief seeing the crowding issues fixed, it was much more relaxed, and the bands were fucking unreal.

My car was broken into that year as well. They stole my cheap deck (which cost me a whopping $50), my Ps1 with mini-LCD attachable screen, some burned CD's, some other stuff and left behind two tallcans in paper bags. Blue Man Group, Underworld and The White Stripes were all great. The Beastie Boys and the Chili Peppers were both pretty bad though.

For me, 2009 was my favorite year (not lineup, but experience) aka the first year I got the full Coachella experience of attending all three days, camping, the whole deal. Climbed the fence Thursday night to watch Paul McCartneys's soundcheck, danced onstage for MIA, and camped out at the mainstage all day to be up front for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (one of my favorite bands)

Tossup between 2008 and 2011. 08 was my first 3 day year and the lineup was probably my favorite to date, and last year was just a blast, Tallest Man on Earth and Arcade Fire really made it a special weekend.

I dont know how long Ill go to Coachella, but the answer has been the same for several years; at least once more.

Every year I keep telling myself this!

My 2nd Coachella had to be my favorite. It was still "mind blowing" and I actually did everything right. Been chasing that experience ever since.

In my experience the line-up doesn't necessarily guarantee the best Coachella. It takes good planning, the right people and a little bit of luck.

pre-3day coachella i'd say 2004 hands down

more recent i'd say 2009 not just because of bands but the people i was with and the whole experience. 2010 was a great lineup but the clusterfuckness of it all totally ruined it

Been going since 2008 and 2011 was a quantum leap better organized than any other prior year. I agree it was definitely the best overall experience. 2009 was my favorite for the acts/music.

Except that's two answers.

true, but since so few of us went to 99, I threw in 04 as a backup, ok still only a few saw that one too... but you get my point.

2004 was the first real sellout. Not only in terms of tickets, but the first real "Hollywood year" When Paris Hilton is dancing with Jack Black during The Pixies set... that started the downward spiral (of sorts). But we all know every year has been good. Just most of the people these days have come after the festival made a major shift.
