so i can't be the only one who has found it hard to find quality clubs/nights where i can get my groove on. this thread will be a listing of all things DANCE. i will update the first post with a link to specific club/event posts that get posted in here.

i want to see clubs/weeklies/monthlies where there is quality music to get down to.
essentially post anything that happens on a somewhat regular basis; not one-off events.

if you are going to post, please post the name of the club, or the weekly with a link to info if you can and indicate whether it is the name of a club or event.
i know weeklies tend to change venues over time.

please indicate the city

it would also be helpful to include the type of music or dj's/bands that that regular play.
even more helpful would be which crew throws the event or which band/dj regularly plays there.
i know we don't all have the same taste, so that would make it really helpful than just saying "i liked dancing here".

any other info, such as cover charges, dress codes, drink-selection, etc. would be helpful.

personally, i am interested in finding nights with old school hip-hop, GOOD 80s music, indie danceable music and drum and bass.

ok, GO!

the blunt club's 9th anniversary is tonight. i haven't been in awhile, but they have a range of music. lots of hip-hop, glitch, dubstep, drum and bass, music in that range. i can't tell the regular dj's anymore. this night has been a few different places, but right now it's at the yucca tap room (http://www.yuccatap.com/) in tempe. i'm not sure if there's a cover charge or not, but i don't remember there being one at this particular venue.

Is there a Phoenix equivalent to Hotel Congress? There are a bunch of "clubs" here but they're usually broed out/upscale.

I dig Club Congress because it's more my crowd, the architecture, great music, good drink specials etc.

http://www.hotelcongress.com/club/
Pretty much all genres of EDM are present. Thursday nights especially.

Obscura at Rips Bar 3045 N 16th St, Phoenix -- Indie / New Wave / Brit pop, every 2nd Saturday of the month

I could work that out possibly as well. :)

I got an invite to some thing at the black & tan? Never heard of it but a friend of mine is friends with another Ivy (I doubt that is how he spells it though) apparently he is known as Napp-E? They are doing a big party but it is the same night as your birthday rock band night. If anyone is interested I have a few invite cards. The listed DJ's are Kip Killagain, Deepfreq, jonboy and Napp-E. It's June 4th, doors open at 10pm, it's 21+, $10 cover and a cash bar.

Black & Tan has been going on for ages - it started out years ago as a kind of rockabilly after-party/speakeasy deal in this crappy warehouse downtown. It's been through quite a few different permutations now - I had no idea they were even still doing it.

And, I'm in for the 11th. I have a baby shower to go to that night (ugh), so it will give me a good excuse to leave early. :)

Also, here's my contribution to the list:

Sanctum is a goth/industrial club on 7th avenue, north of Osborn. Pretty much the same DJs and crowd as all of the other (now-defunct) goth nights that have existed in Phoenix. My biggest complaint with it is that depending on who's DJing, the mixing and track selection are sometimes solid, and sometimes shit. I've only been on Fridays, but I guess they do a few different things during the week (they even had a short-lived hip hop night, which struck me as hilarious because the interior of the club is definitely gothtastic). They also have steampunk themed nights occasionally that I've been wanting to check out.

On a similar note, I went to a goth/fetish club in LA (on the Hollywood strip) last weekend called Bar Sinister that I definitely mean to go to again next time I'm out there. There's also a goth club a little further from downtown LA called Das Bunker which I've been to, which sometimes also has live concerts. I accidentally saw Combichrist there a few years ago and it was pretty good. It's definitely a grungy club, but they have a HUGE dancefloor.

Yeah, that is what Justin was telling me, supposedly they are also doing live grafiti. I didn't think hanging out in a warehouse sniffing paint fumes was quite up Nick and I's alley. I need to work him into dance night gradually. :)

It used to be a weekly, and then a bi-weekly, and then monthly, and the venue changed frequently. I haven't gone in years, but when it started it was one of those DL kind of things where you had to meet someone somewhere and get a ticket before they'd even tell you where it was - mainly because they didn't have permits and served alcohol all night. In all honesty, it was always kind of dirty and sketchy. The only way I even found out about it back then is that I knew the bouncer. They shut down for a while several years ago, when someone from The New Times went and did a write-up about it.

It seems like whatever they're doing now is actually legit (or, more legit anyway) - since Napp-e is involved, I think it must be a different crew entirely that's running it now.

Quincy's was another late night spot, in this building a guy (named Quincy) owns on McDowell. I think it just had it's closing night a few weeks ago - not sure if that was just for the summer, or if it's gone for good.

Cheap Thrills is Jared's night. Mykill moved to SF almost five years ago but comes around about once a year for Sticky Fingers or fauxShow or a rave.

Quincy's is officially closed for the summer but will periodically pop up for parties here and there. It's always been an after-hours event that hosts downtown DJs of all genres but Consumer, Degha & Ariel have been heavily involved in the last few weeks. We've stumbled outta there at 8 am way too often this year. I'm glad he's taking a break. My liver is starting to hate me.

Alright, I had to contribute to this post, since it looks like some of you are searching for some answers here!

IMO, Bar Smith is where you'll currently find the best DJs in town. If you're into Electro/House/Techno then Sticky Fingers on Fridays is where its at. In addition, on First Friday in June, 6/3, they are going weekly with an Indie/BritPop/NewWave format in the main room.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/STICKY-FINGERS/127216337306294

On Saturdays, Solstice @ Bar Smith features the best house music in town. DJs Pete Salaz and Senbad have been at it 20 + years, and if you want to hear quality 4/4 with soul, this is where its at.

http://www.facebook.com/solsticesaturdays

Cheap Thrills @ Brick is where Jared Alan and his crew do their thing. This is a monthly event now. This summer, there will be a plethora of acts coming to town, including Etienne De Crecy, Drop The Lime, and Classixx

http://www.facebook.com/CheapThrillsPHX

The Quincy is indeed closed for the summer, but word is he will be returning for select one-offs and will be back when it cools off. I can't recommend this place enough.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Quincy/120970591262547

I would also add this page, as Stateside Presents is beginning to host more and more electronic artists

Not sure if anybody caught this, but Eats Everything is playing June 5th at the Monarch. http://relentlessbeats.com/events/eats-everything-rb-deep/ For those who don't know him he's really at the forefront of the dance music scene right now IMO. Pretty cool that he is playing here in our town. Hoping it sells out so we can get more Dirtybird artists in town ASAP. This is put on by Circuit, a group trying to bring some more underground sounds to the Valley. I feel like we don't get nearly as many amazing electronic artists as we should and part of it is because promotion is a little lacking for anyone not playing Wild Knights or a big pool party.

Hey Phoenix is a secondary market, we will probably always have mostly middle of the week shows. Nobody is going to play Phoenix on the weekend and LA on Thursday or Monday. I'm just glad we're getting a DJ of this caliber here

It's still bullshit.

With that said, I'm willing to go out to catch him.

I'm dedicating my 666th post to my boys, the Rebel Disco DJs, who have been holding down the best weekly dance party in downtown Phoenix. These guys have brought Tim Sweeney, Daniel Avery, Tensnake, and so many other top-notch house, disco, and techno artists out to our sleepy little desert town for several months now and they're not slowing down. Wednesday nights are the new Friday nights at Barsmith.

Let's dance, kids!

If anyone is planning on going feel free to say hi. I'll probably be wearing my Roska shirt, or if not, just look for the out of place white guy with his Filipino friend.

EDIT: The show was awesome. First time seeing him. Super nice guy too.
