we did make-overs at work today. It was great. This one girl at my work is an aesthetician, which means she apparently practiced doing make-up a lot at some point. She sells BeautiControl. Anyway, she did mine and also my co-temp's. She took pictures of us (before/afters) and this is my after:

So, have you been doing anything else while listening? Or are you just sitting comfy in a chair in the corner listening quietly while sipping on your favorite beverage?

I was doing other things. Sorting laundry and picking up my room and such.
And I actually only got as far as those plus a Parenthetical Girls/Dead Science split 7" where they covered Tori's "Jackie's Strength" and Enya's "On Your Shore," respectively.
Then I got called away. Otherwise there probably would've been some sitting and relaxing and listening. And beverages.

classy things? On Santa fe during first friday its all hippies, burning man and the rockabilly crowd. I guess just your friendly artist community. I have seen so many costumes in the past few months. Im guessing by next spring they are going to have to shut down santa fe because of the swelling crowds. We should go sometime, it will be fun I know the guys that run desoto ink and a couple of galleries you would love it.
DAM can be a little stuffy but its kind of cool to see the different featured artists.

yep, those are the actual items. the other great part about this area of Laos is river tubing and caving. Caves were cool, but tubing was just a blast. I'm sure you've done/heard of river tubing?
Imagine floating down a beautiful river lined with limestone peaks. Think of all those Vietnam movies down the Mekong River. You float for a few minutes, and then someone throws a spear at you. you grab it, and get pulled into a little wooden bar. They are playing some reggae. maybe you grab a large beer for $1 or if your a big spender a mix drink for $1.50.
Then you float back down the river to the next little bar. Theres about 8 of them on your few mile ride. You hit some fun rapids and can swing from the tops of the bars into the river below.
Backpacker happy land. Thailand was a wonderful country as well. Didn't get to the beaches much there at all, but Chiang Mai in the north was wonderful. Cambodian beaches were indeed beautiful, and far less developed and touristy than the ones in Thailand. You do get hassled like none other though

we didn't have a guide. We had Lonely Planet on A Shoestring for South East Asia which we used often. As you backpack you run into SOOO many travelers from all over the world. They will always throw good ideas and tips at you, especially at where to stay, eat, etc.
We had just around 2 weeks in Laos and wish we could have stayed longer. With the roads in better condition than in Cambodia, its not difficult finding your way off the beaten path. Honestly though, Laos is such a preserved, relaxed atmosphere even Luang Probang, the big tourist destination and Vientine (spelling) the capital, were wonderful to be in and felt authentic. A few hours from any of these cities and you in hut village territory.
I did meet a few backpackers who went way up north (be careful of land mines) and down south and had wonderful experiences. With a big smile, a few key words in Lao and a good attitude it is not difficult at all making your way around the country. I would love to stay at a village in Laos for some time. The people are incredibly warm and friendly and they just love seeing travelers.
i would be a bit more cautious about where you go in Cambodia and Vietnam, but Thailand and Laos are way chill.
oh, and once you are at your guesthouse where ever you end up, they know all the attractions in the area. Grab a guidebook and a good personality and you will see and experience a ton no matter where you are

Yeah I know, thankfully I didn’t get any of the symptoms, but that’s probably cause I live in a high altitude city. Still, I was expecting a bit more out of it. Liked the Coca candy better. Made my mouth numb.

Oh yeah. I think a lot of people are bummed if they expect to get high or some sort of serious effect out of it -- it's just tea! I don't think I tried any coca candy. But I did like chewing on the leaves too for altitude sickness, which was probably more effective than the tea.
I want to go live there.

I does seem like it, but its actuallly a lot of bone and very little meat. It was kind of a let down.
Did you do the inka trail to Machupicchu?
It's amazing, really amazing.
Yep. Did the regular 4 day trek. Couldn’t agree with you more, it is an amazing experience (gotta love that killer 2nd day). Even though Machu Pichu is amazing, seeing it after doing the Inca Trail, made it so much more enjoyable.
Also met a bunch of really amazing people from all over the world in our tour group and along the trail. We spent christmas eve on the trail (3rd day), had a really nice dinner and party and got to Machu on the 25th. The best Chiristmas present I could ever get.

Yeah, I've been there many times, and I've been lucky to meet really amazing people as well. I think now the inka trail is only allowed through guided tours? We always did it by ourselves, except the first time when 2 locals guided us. Another amazing city is Arequipa, but I like more Cuzco. It's extremely beautiful.

Yeah. I really want to. If I get a permanent job here in Hawaii then I'll need to ship my car over anyway and the cheapest way to do that is to drop it off in Long Beach, so it would be a good excuse for a roadtrip.
Also I'm pretty sure SojuGorae's pictures are from Big Bear now because I saw the other ones he posted in the Post Your Picture thread.
