I've been sleeping on the Pixies for too long, and I just listened to this album for the first time. It is now my favorite album, as of today. Carry on.

I didn't mean this is now my #1 album. Just my favorite album at the moment. I just realized that I worded that incorrectly. Whoah, that was a close call.

Doolittle is one of my favorite albums of all time, but all Pixies albums are masterpieces. I still am obcessed with Swervedriver's debut album, the Blue Aeroplanes debut album and the debut album from the Trashcan Sinatras.

Blue Aeroplanes ?? Never thought I would hear them mentioned here. Swagger is a great album.

Blue Aeroplanes' Swagger album is one of my favorite albums of all time, I would also put the Nowhere album by Ride up there also.

When I first "discovered" this album about 5 years ago I listened to it non-stop. Definitely one of my all-time favorites.

Am I alone in thinking Surfer Rosa is better? Not that Doolittle isn't a masterpiece and everything, just wondering if anyone else ended up settling into that conclusion.

I go back and forth between Doolittle and Surfer Rosa. They are two completely different albums, so its hard to choose for me. I think the reason I usually say Doolittle is my favorite is because it was my first Pixies album and is really what got me into them. Also, many of the songs on Doolittle are more memorable for me. But Surfer Rosa is definitely close. Both are masterpieces.

Ditto to both of these, as well as your earlier reference to The Trash Can Sinatras. Proof that the late '80s weren't a total loss.

I think there's something to this, that our favorite album by a newly discovered band is often the first one we heard. That's true for me with the Pixies (Doolittle), The Cure (Disintegration), Red Hot Chili Peppers (Mother's Milk), and others. It's not always the case, though. My first exposure to Elvis Costello was Spike, and the first album I heard by The Smiths was Strangeways, Here We Come, neither of which is my favorite album by either.

What about Trompe La Monde? Surfer Rosa has a more low-fi, less polished sound than Doolittle, but I still love them both. I like the topless woman on the Surfer Rosa album cover.
