TheMadeleine

I'm going...was going to fly but this could be fun. Plus flights are unusually expensive this summer. PM me and tell me a bit about yourselves, if we mesh let's do this :)

brematale111
05-04-2011, 10:12 PM
Fizzlefry got first dibs ^^ but I will PM you anyways, in case things don't work out. I am a chubby, jolly fellow with a cute girlfriend who I don't know how I got. She works in a law firm and I work part time for UPS while going to school. we're basically like the king of queens, without all the hate for each other and the bad jokes.

TheMadeleine
05-04-2011, 10:14 PM
the 4 of us can't go? we could even split the cost of a minivan so there's more space :)

brematale111
05-04-2011, 10:28 PM
minivan ftw. let's do it

frizzlefry
05-04-2011, 10:41 PM
You sound like a cute couple brematale, and Madeleine I was hoping on bringing my gf too and was a little worried about there not being enough room but as brematale put it, minivan ftw.

TheMadeleine
05-04-2011, 11:01 PM
According to kayak, we can get a minivan at rent a car at LAX for $65/day = $327 total, aka $13 each/day or $65 each/total, assuming there are 5 of us and we use the car from Thurs to Monday.

This would be so fun! Let me know...

I won't be disappointed if you guys decide to go just for 4 of you btw. I can afford to fly/go alone :)

TheMadeleine
05-04-2011, 11:05 PM
Note that if we get 1 more person on board, it will be even cheaper-->$10.90 each/day!

brematale111
05-11-2011, 07:42 PM
maybe....I'm still waiting to find out if I can get work off. And you'd have to pass a drug test and background check

frizzlefry
05-11-2011, 08:51 PM
Hair follicle, urine, or blood?

brematale111
05-11-2011, 08:59 PM
just hair and blood....but I'm excluded from the test, as I would fail

frizzlefry
05-11-2011, 09:03 PM

brematale111

TheMadeleine

FearAndLoathing

bluemamba

I would bring myself and two friends if a bus would be brought into this.

TheMadeleine
05-12-2011, 11:24 PM
how 'bout we turn this party bus into a caravan?

frizzlefry
05-13-2011, 11:31 AM
but than the whole point of carpooling is lost

TheMadeleine
05-13-2011, 02:07 PM
So many people are chiming in that it would be a caravan of carpools. Bus rentals are expensive, especially for 5 days.

arsgunner
05-13-2011, 03:35 PM
y'all might as well fly if yer talking about taking those lame buses..that's what i'm doing..already book my flight and everything was around 150 with taxes

brematale111
05-14-2011, 02:07 PM
well you have a rubbish sense of humore then. I don't exactly see how not wanting to be in a car with a deuschbag for 8 hours makes me a baby, but okay.

With that being said, all of your posts about geeks and nerds crack me up. Reminds me of a couple months ago, my gf and I were passing through fresno and stopped at a starbucks- as we were leaving some redneck trucker was walking out saying "man its like geek cen-tral up in there, all those nerds on the com-puters I just dont un-der-stand it". And that is how I view you, sir, as a backwards redneck who still likes to bash on nerds and geeks.

TheMadeleine

Nerds & geeks are sexy! I love the computer guys at Best Buy & Fry's! They always look like they wanna pat me on the head and sigh "poor little blonde girl doesn't know WHAT she's doing with her laptop" :)

Hey Y'all!
I'm also planning a carpool up to San Fran for OSL '11 - I'll start off from Palm Desert, CA 08/11/11 in the AM, make my way through LA and up to SF. I have a very reliable and comfortable 4 door and three empty seats... all I ask is to chip in on gas and be cool :)
you can email at douglas_daniel@msn.com to touch base... take care!

Last year for OL we rented a car from LA to SF, dropped it off at SFO and then flew home on Monday out of OAK. We are doing the same thing this year. It is the cheapest and best way for my friends and I.

MidnightSIX
06-06-2011, 06:22 PM
doesn't that defeat the purpose of the carpool? that sounds way more expensive than everyone pitching in for gas and sharing the drive

frizzlefry
06-06-2011, 07:08 PM
Renting and flying sounds convenient but carpooling in a car that one of us already owns is ultimately the cheapest mode of transportation

I was just Letting this thread know what we did. It's not too fun driving into and around SF...

frizzlefry
06-07-2011, 03:07 AM
I agree on that Zeevee, it really depends on what the passengers would like to do but it would probably be quickest for everybody and easiest on the driver if all of the passengers would get off at one location, like a BART or MUNI stop that is pretty close to their hotels or friends or whatever. This way nobody is stuck in the car for an hour while someone else is getting dropped off. Everyone just meets up at the same spot when they are ready to leave.

TheMadeleine

Hey we should put this carpool together though. How about we plan to leave at noon on Thursday Aug 11 for SF? We can leave from my place if you want, I don't care. Then we can leave SF at noon on Monday the 15th. And who's car are we taking, or shall we order up a minivan from LAX or somewhere?

frizzlefry
06-18-2011, 09:12 PM
How would the traffic be getting out of SF at that time? Is the carpool going to have to pick everyone up or can we just meet up like at Madeleine's place for example? I think my car might be ready for a trip like this by that time, just need new tires, ac serviced, stereo replaced so we don't have to rely on the radio, and maybe replace the windshield so I don't get a ticket up there. It's only a five seater though, I'm not sure how many people are down to tag along still, this thread has died down a tad. Anyone else have a car?

bluemamba
06-21-2011, 07:32 AM
My cousin and I are still up for this. We'll put in on gas and booze for the trip. Hopefully a plan gets put together.

frizzlefry
06-23-2011, 12:07 AM
Well that's four. If we take my car we should probably just keep it at four for comfort's sake, but I'm more than willing to let someone else take their roomier car that I don't have to worry about.

TheMadeleine
06-23-2011, 04:38 PM
BOOM DONE. However upon reflection I realized we should not meet at my place or else whoever parks on the street will get tickets (thank you Long Beach street cleaning). I think 4 people in a car is not too bad. I can limit my luggage to one duffle bag + a purse. Unlike Coachella where I packed espresso machines, crayon costumes, and a week's worth of groceries lol.

I put a bid on Priceline and they put me in the Hotel Metropolis in Union Square for $115/night. I started bidding at $75 and was disappointed I had to go that high but hey---it's the city, in the summer, over the weekend.

Um, why haven't you guys been posting in the OSL thread. We could have really helped fastrack some of this stuff for you. I haven't gone through any of this thread, but feel free to hit me up for any outstanding questions.

From my side it should be about 3 of us, myself included. I'd like to have someone help me out with nice places to eat and good bars around the area once we get out there. Think you can help us out? I'm hoping people from this board have a meet up or something.

GeezrRckr
07-08-2011, 06:49 AM
Yes, I will help with that. Give me your location, transport method/willingness to drive factor (i.e. are you okay with public transportation/willing to drive in the City and deal with parking challenges...because some of our best restaurants are off the beaten path), budget, cuisine/dietary desires/restrictions, etc. Keep in mind that OSL is going to have some of the best restaurants represented at the fest. This is one of the BIGGEST (only?) differentiators of OSL.

And, yes, we'll have to figure out a meetup. Depending on how many/when people arrive, I may host something at my place.

a. We posted about carpooling in the carpooling section of the message boards. Don't look so shocked.

frizzlefry
07-11-2011, 11:46 PM
Yeah mine does seat five but that means a pretty rigid limit on what you can bring, it would have to be two medium to smaller bags for each person. Not to mention that the folks in the backseat will be a little "cozy" for eight hours.

Well, if you're going to be a fucking smartass....

C. This is in the "Coachella Discussion" section of the board. While no one really seems to give a shit, technically, this is for Coachella carpools, not Outside Lands. There is already an Outside Lands thread in the Non-Coachella music board under Other Music Festivals.

Yeah mine does seat five but that means a pretty rigid limit on what you can bring, it would have to be two medium to smaller bags for each person. Not to mention that the folks in the backseat will be a little "cozy" for eight hours.

Weren't we gonna get a minivan if it was more than 4 people?

And yes Guedita, with bluemamba changing the original plan by bringing another person things have not been nailed down. Congratulations, you've pointed out that when someone unexpectedly decides to bring an extra friend along, people have to spend even more time discussing the logistics of a simple car pool. I'll bring you a cookie and a coke when I drive up there because you're just the bee's knees

Madeleine can we just rent a car to drive up there, drop it off, than rent a different car and drive it back? I'm sorry if this is a absurd question, I've never rented a car and it seems pointless for us to pay for a car that really won't be used by all of us for the entire weekend. I plan on just using public transportation or my friend for the weekend.

A minivan sounds like a good plan. I've never rented a car myself either. We still have plenty of time to organize something. No rush to set anything in stone, guedita. Things can change over the next month.

And why is someone saying we can't discuss and plan a carpool ride in a carpool thread?

GuyInTucson
07-13-2011, 10:16 AM
frizzle, stop being a dumbass. Guedita is pointing out that Madeleine said there were no outstanding questions and alluded that everything was taken care of only to post another question later which made it obvious that everything ISN'T taken care of.

And bluemamba, the description of this forum states, "Can you give someone a ride to Coachella? Are you looking for a ride? Post here to meet up."

Are you guys going to a secret Coachella we don't know about?

Geezr said there was already an OSL thread in the music forum in the NON-COACHELLA section of the forum and even posted a link for you and you guys are still here talking about it. TheMadeleine's response to Drew's advice was pretty fucking snarky and usually around here that will render these types of responses.

TheMadeleine
07-13-2011, 04:30 PM
What's crazy is that people who have NOTHING to do with the topic of this thread (they are not looking to carpool to OSL from the LA area) have decided to take time away from their busy(?) lives to read it (or not read it) and throw in their [generally negative] $0.02.

In response to previous questions---yes I'm sure we can rent one for the way up and another for the way down; it would be two separate rental transactions. I've rented cars a few times, it's no big deal however you usually need a credit card (NOT debit) and you should be over the age of 25. I am 29 but I only have a debit card.

And yes I have an email account but this is so much more fun, especially now that we've riled up a few boardie sticklers with our innocent and productive back-and-forth.

GuyInTucson

Geezr said there was already an OSL thread in the music forum in the NON-COACHELLA section of the forum and even posted a link for you and you guys are still here talking about it.

To the Madeline's defense you say in the music forum for non coachella discussion there is a OSL thread that discusses OSL(which I partake in). However from what I have read there hasn't been any discussion about music in this thread, just on how to get there. While it technically does not belong in this section I don't think it technically belongs in the Other Music Festivals section of the Non Coachella Music section. It really should belong in the Misc. Lounge seeing this thread isn't about Coachella or Music. That's just if we are being technical about things.

Edit: Depending on how you read "Music Related" then all of what I just wrote would be disregarded

frizzlefry
07-14-2011, 12:00 AM
I think it's pointless to discuss where this thread SHOULD be, because it was effective to put it right here. If the OP would have put into the misc. section than odds are not many of us would have found it because, surprisingly enough, people don't check every single forum on a daily basis.
He could have put it in the Other Music Festivals sections which I guess would have been more relevant and would have pleased one or two board members to the point of orgasm by the sound of it, but he didn't. I'm sure that even if that did happen though other people would still piss and moan about a carpool discussion happening in that forum and taking up such sacred space for infinitely more poignant and important posts, even if it only took up a single page, God forbid.
I'm sure this post will just rile the shit out of a bad ass or two on this board and this epic assault on a misplaced internet thread will just continue so have fun I guess.

Hi! To anyone interested I am also planning a carpool from SoCal up to SF for Outside Lands. I have a very reliable and roomy four door that would easily fit 5 people (and has huge trunk space). I'll start out on Thurs Morning/afternoon from Palm Desert, CA and go through Los Angeles and up to SF downtown, so anyone on that path I'll be glad to take along!
All I ask is be cool, chip in on gas, and don't be flakey (please don't make me wait an hour after the agreed time of leaving :))
you can either msg here or email me at douglas_daniel@msn.com to set something up. Take care!
