Very Close for me between 06 and 08, your experiences?
My experience 01-11

2011 was easily the best experience I've had on the Polo fields.

EDIT* I've been attending since 2007.

I went to my first in 2001 and while it popped my Coachella cherry and hooked me on going if they were going to have it again in the future (had no idea it would become the monster it has grown in to), my favorite year would be a close call between this year and 2003. For now, because it's fresh in my memory, I'll pick this year.

i started going to coachella in 2001. i've missed a few years in there, but the best was 2008. it would take some major shit to beat that Kraftwerk-Portishead-Prince experience on the main stage.

Yeah I honestly think 08 just had everything. One of my most fond Coachella memories is seeing the Verve reunited, that was sick. Prince brought that ultimate star power, and Roger Waters talk about a legend, hell I felt like I was back at a 70s festival it was just perfect. Of course following Waters up with Chromeo and Justice to finish the weekend was simply amazing. Oh yeah, and despite Johnson being on the main stage, the true headliner that day was Fatboy Slim in the Sahara anyone who missed that missed arguably the best entrance the Festival has seen, with Charlie and the Chocolate factory and the clock pure genius. 08 NO DOUBT!

what happened to 1999? i went and they gave you water bottle as you walked in and it hold a special place in my heart because it was the first one and TOOL's performance was one of the best shows i've seen - in my life!

Sunday was anticlimactic this year. PJ Harvey closed it to me, as Kanye yelled in my ear on the walk out, and I don't see PJ as a closer for a three-day fest... or Kanye, for that matter. Oh well, it was still a good time. This year was definitely better than last year, and I didn't think there was much wrong (cough... outside of the shower situation) last year. All right, by rote.

2011 was just good music after good music with only 1 bad conflict for me BN<TCB. 06 takes number 2 solely because of Daft Punk. 07 is number 3.

Why '09 killed all for me (so far)... Paul McCartney, Conor Oberst, a killer Ghostland Observatory show (yeah, I was definitely feeling it that night), amazing camping setup all around, no shower problems, no problems, followed by two days of the same. I'm starting to really miss that wasteland they had for tent camping though... =\ haha

Been going since 2003, and for me it's a tough choice between 2007 and 2010. I think 2011 has an unfair advantage since it's the only one that pretty much everyone voting attended.

I should add that this year was pretty incredible, though. Then again, they all are.

2008, followed by 2007. I wasn't there this year so I can't speak on it but it seems crazy that it is winning by such a large margin. I get that they fixed the overall experience after 2010 but really?? The lineup IMO was not even close to what we got in 2008 with Prince, Portishead and Waters.

I don't think people are voting based on line-up. Not me anyway.

2010 had the best line-up in my opinion, but it was easily my worst Coachella in terms of experience.

EDIT* If I were voting strictly on line-up I would have chosen 2004.

By no means do I consider myself a veteran (08 was my first year), but 2011 was the overall best year I've experienced. The undercard, the group I was with, the camping, all were top-notch.

I think this year was one of the best years because of the set up of the festival and the care Goldenvoice put into controlling it. The wristband situation was cool. I saw two people actually sneak in this year i know there were more but compared to the '10 situation where thousands were getting in the Polo Fields were not as cramped and crowded as last year. You had room to move and even the most cramped stages and tents everyone had fun and there wasnt a lot of pushing and stupidity. It was just a grand atmosphere this year. I do agree with the other poster about '08 being one of the better years I mean never again will there be a comet like Kraftwerk, Portishead, Prince that was just greatness.

It's not crazy at all. I obviously can't speak on behalf of 2008 but it seems there are more than enough people that believe the overall experience this year was the best since the inception of Coachella. I can only compare the years I have been, but it seems that a lot of people who have gone to 5 or more believe this year was the ultimate experience.

I was merely giving you a taste of your own bitter medicine, and you obviously didn't care for it, if your snide response has any say in the matter. I've been there three years running, and I think I have a good right to say what I believe the best Coachella to ME is. You're just acting a kid, and don't like people pointing it out. I have so much fun every year, it's really hard to single out one year as the absolute best. I voted for this year, due to the sheer number of amazing bands and the overall experience with my group that went this year.
'06 will always have a special place in my heart, due to it being my first ever.

I went 2002, 2006-2011, and 2007, 2008, 2006 in that order for me. However 2011 is getting an honorable mention due to the redemtion that Goldenvoice has done with this year.

I've been going since the beginning, and I remember the space yet intimacy of the fields. You could sit down anywhere and be away from things, yet right in the middle of it. The music has always been amazing, but there was a time at the beginning where you almost felt like you had stumbled upon something special and secret. The cat's out of the bag and that pussy ain't going back. :cat

I guess that's why this year was so great to me because it reminded me more of 01-03 and less of 2010. But I totally get what you mean about "a time at the beginning where you almost felt like you had stumbled upon something special and secret". It's not much of a secret anymore these days,

Yes to Gogol, Portishead, and Roger Water(amongst other spectacular shows). But holy crap, NO to Kraftwerk...Maybe I just don't get it, but that was one of the worst shows I have ever seen. And Prince was so anti-climactic for me(and I thought his covers sounded terrible).
