It was great, but I was super pissed the new lights at the top everywhere weren't working... I was really hoping to trip out on that shit while Sasha was bringing the place down

Were the lights supposed to be working for that? I was under the impression that he was just doing his own Vortek thing on stage.

Sasha was great.

and those lights might have added something if we had been far enough back to be underneath them....

Only set better all weekend was the Chemical Brothers, Sasha was so fuckin good though. I still can't believe how good it really was.

My buddy that I was with doesn't even like EDM all that much but was completely impressed with Sasha's set. Extremely captivating, perfect set structure and his mixes were cleaner than anyone there, as expected.

Him and Shpongle were the top two Sahara acts for me over the weekend.

SASHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSS!!!!!!!

I have been djing since i was 12 years old and have looked up to sasha since the beginning of it all. After ten years of waiting to see him play he ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED IT. OMG! it was everything and more. I respected his decision to not use the sahara light installation. I know if i had my own visual setup to bring to an event id want the main focus on it.

As far as EDM goes, I think I preferred The Chems, Sven and Leftfield to Sasha, but that's some damn good company. Sasha was really great, wish I had opted to see the entire set. I feel like I left right before he took things to the next level.

Also, props to the dudes next to me who were chanting "essential. essential. essential. essential" like the whole thing was a fuckin essential mix hahaha. Funniest moment of the whole weekend for me.

I really wish i would have missed sven's total trainwreck, but other than that the set was great. leftfield and chems were my favorite of the weekend with sasha right behind.

Sasha had the best bass all weekend in the Sahara, hands down. So good.

He uses a special low pass filter that enhances the bass.

What happened? I caught patches of his set, so maybe I missed something.

Near the beginning. He was mixing out of a track and it only had a little mids and bass in there and he didnt pay attention. It was an unnoticable trainwreck for about 20 seconds. The volume was so low on the track he was mixing out of that it didnt sound like a disaster but i heard it, and i saw him once he heard it. He looked up to see if everyone noticed, but noone did.

From the best sahara set thread.

Had that track been louder, it would have been terrible but i guess thats why he didnt notice for so long.

There was definitely some trance influence, but damn that shit got evil.

Yeah there was a trance track or two, but this was true progressive house at its finest. Mindblowing.

I worry that DJ's like this have a bleak future at coachella - it seems that with each passing year the sahara lineup features less class and more cheese. LOVE the live EDM acts in the mojave, but can't envision a DJ in there.

Hope I'm wrong to be concerned :)

i think you're a bit wrong, you just gotta know where to look. but the cheese will always be there.

What I saw was great, really wish that he hadn't conflicted with Nosaj Thing. No regrets though as I had a blast there and had already seen Sasha before. Although I know that I missed some greatness later on. Just how Coachella is.

Don't get me wrong, there was a large number of stellar EDM acts this year - Leftfield, Trentemoller, Mount Kimbie, Lee Burridge, Chemical Brothers etc . . .

I just don't see many quality DJ's in the Sahara moving forward - which isn't a dealbreaker by any stretch. Just a thought.

As for the cheese, you're most certainly correct. And I like it this way, to a point, because if the Sahara lineup looked like DEMF's, I'd be conflicted into misery.

I actually agree with you. I am done with the run-of-the-mill acts like SHM, afrojack, Laidback Luke, etc. I got the same way with DJ's/Acts like Christopher Lawrence, Bad Boy Bill and Sandra Collins (and many others) 10 years ago.

edm is progressing, live acts are much more fun to watch in my eyes and they have more heart. i don't hate dj sets at all, in fact high contrast was one of my favorites this weekend and that was all on cdjs. but if an act can successfully pull of a live set i am all for it. it gives the live feel, obviously, and gives the set a unique flavor.

A barely noticeable mixing mistake that lasted 20 seconds made his entire set a trainwreck? That's like calling a great novel a piece of shit simply because a word was misspelled. I really don't get the "technical perfection above all else" mentality of judging music.

hell yea his opening was so intense. i had only ever heard nero's dubstep mix of that song and damn... when he started to play that i just kinda let all my thoughts go about what the set would be like and totally just got owned. great set.
