That might be, but they said LA. Why would Coachella not just say back at the polo fields themselves?

Yeah I agree. I think since they said LA it will be LA county. My guess is Home Depot Center. Its on the list of Goldenvoice venues.

yea not a big fan of Muse at all, even tho out of the 2 times i saw them they did rock a good show (but this was back in 2004).

Hopefully it ends up a bit bigger than just a few bands playing backdrop to RATM (even tho thats enought to sign me up haha)

Once Coachella 2010 finished I stopped going on the boards till November. I logged on once only to find out that there was a RATM show going on a week from that day. Had I kept going on the boards I would have found out earlier when tickets were still available.

Thank god I decided to stay on the boards for the time being. Now I have been informed ahead of time of the coming RATM show and I will be there without a doubt

Saw this same exact bill in Vegas. Muse on before RATM at Vegoose. And Daft Punk was the night before. Also, all the after parties on the Vegas Strip. Goddamn I miss that festival. It got every fests leftovers but the BEST leftovers and it was during Halloween in Vegas and was never packed (which I guess lead to its downfall).

brokenDREAMS
04-21-2011, 07:31 PM
Perhaps it may take place at Great Park in Irvine, could be an early experiment to GV's proposed new festival grounds? Another option (and my wish) may be the la coliseum, now that they lost edc this summer and perhaps looking for a another type of non-rave music festival?? Either case, it better not take place in san bernardino...

Yeah, because there needs to be a huge rock show there now. With every Rage fan mauling all the Muse fans. Look at it this way, IF its at the Coliseum, its probably due to the fact they need to get some money to make up for losing EDC and edm events they wouldve had scheduled this year. And Home Depot would be a more modern option though, but since its only 25,000 people and all.......

I wouldn't count on that, for how much the ticket price will probably be, and for Muse to not be headlining. Muse just played headlining shows not too long ago at Honda center and Staples, fans aren't as hungry to see them as they are Rage imo. Not to mention all the people who got shut out of the palladium gig last July. And this is LA, home field advantage for Rage.

Rave out, Snoop Dogg, Rage Against the Machine in at L.A. Coliseum
Comments (0) (11) (21)
April 28, 2011*|* 7:00 am

With the cancellation of the controversial Electric Daisy Carnival rave in Los Angeles this summer, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is expected to bring in a pair of high-profile performers in July: rapper Snoop Dogg and rock group Rage Against the Machine, The Times has learned.
The performances scheduled for July 30 would generate badly needed revenue from an expected crowd of more than 50,000 people. The event would be the largest concert at the Coliseum since 2003.
Discussions to bring the concert to the Coliseum are nearly complete, but the Coliseum Commission has not yet received a signed contract from the event producer, GoldenVoice, a subsidiary of AEG, said John Sandbrook, the Coliseum's interim general manager.*
Sandbrook referred questions about the expected performers to the event producer, which did not return calls for comment late Tuesday evening. However, two people with knowledge of the Coliseum's concert line-up confirmed it to The Times.*
The Coliseum is also scheduled to host a soccer match July 16 between Real Madrid and the Los Angeles Galaxy, which is also expected to draw more than 50,000, according to Coliseum Commission documents.*
Rage Against the Machine, known for its anti-authoritarian bent, performed in a designated protest zone during the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles. Shortly after the band got off stage, people in the crowd, including anarchists, began throwing bottles, rocks and pieces of concrete at police. LAPD officers moved in with their batons, and several concert fans were struck by rubber pellets.
The group played more recently in 2010 at the Hollywood Palladium, an indoor venue that holds 4,000 people, without incident.
Sandbrook said he's working with the Los Angeles police and fire departments to make sure they are prepared for potential security problems.*
“We are being very diligent with our planning,” Sandbrook said.
LAPD Deputy Chief Pat Gannon said there are ongoing discussions with the Coliseum. "This will be a team effort to address issues in this type of event," Gannon said.
The July game and concert will be the largest events to date under Sandbrook's tenure. He was hired* last month after longtime General Manager Patrick Lynch abruptly quit following reports in The Times that he gave permission to his events manager, Todd DeStefano, to also be employed by a rave company.
The commission was criticized after the company, Insomniac, held the two-day Electric Daisy Festival last summer at the venue, which resulted in 120 people being taken to hospitals, 118 arrests and the fatal Ecstasy overdose of a 15-year-old girl.
Police officials have previously said raves require an extraordinary amount of police resources compared to traditional rock 'n' roll concerts. Raves tend to attract a large number of attendees using or possessing Ecstasy.
*"I’ve been told the traditional rock 'n' roll concert is a far different animal than raves," Sandbrook said.
Earlier this month, Coliseum Commission officials said the commission expects to lose $297,000 for the fiscal year that ends June 30. The projected loss was largely blamed on the cancellation of Electric Daisy, which is moving to Las Vegas this year.

Snoop Dogg at RTB was fantastic. I would say my favorite performance of 2010. He is a great entertainer. Though hearing Doggystyle start too finish may have helped with that. The skits he acted out in between each song were so funny. He had everyone dancing though & booties were gyrating to say the least

even though i'm not attending this show, i'll be pretty disappointed if they don't bust out some new material... they've been doing reunion shows for 4 years now, which even by Rage standards puts them close to having an album ready by now (all 3 studio albums were 4 years apart)

From Zack...

…we’re all more mature and we don’t have the same sort of trouble we did 10 or 15 years ago. This is different, and we’re preparing a lot of stuff: we’re working on a new album that’ll be out next year, maybe in the summer in the US.

"Brothers and sisters... brothers and sisters.... can everybody please just take five steps back. Let's love each other, not hurt each other."

Rage is the reason we know the "crossed arms over the head" sign = medic.

If I went thirty seconds enjoying the music without helping somebody out of the pit or passing a body surfer to the security guards, I don't know when. Looking forward to NOT fighting with the other guys at the very front this time around.

I was at the Palladium show too, and I honestly think it's one of the 10, maybe even 5, best shows I've been to in my life.

However, I do think it was a little too packed. I think seeing them in a bigger venue, even with more people, would actually give you more options in terms of space.

I couldn't go through the day of July 30 knowing this was going down in my backyard and not being there.

this is a bit of info i got from my Metallica buddy who is in the camp: its all just basic info but it was fun to hear it!! :)

he told me last night that Metallica is looking into possibly doing a massive 2 week US stadium festival tour in August. the big 4 tour is out due to previous commitments from the other bands.(although a New york date will happen in Sept).

the bands they sent interest offers to be sub-headliners are RATM, Slipknot, System of a Down, and Linkin Park.

once they get one of them, they will fill the lineup with bands that fit. Mastodon, Korn, etc.

in the fall they go into the studio to do more work and in the summer of 2012 they will do more big 4 dates in the US before they go into a full arena tour if they get their album done..

bottom line: Metallica-Rage would be incredible!!

Matt has said several times that Tom Morello is his favorite guitarist. The entire band has said seeing Rage was a defining moment in their lives. And back in 2007, Muse hadn't quite conquered the world the way they have now - so it seems to me like a little something special might be in the offing. Im just being speculative. i'm not gonna be disappointed if it doesn't happen.

yea i do... tbh its laughable (honestly Rage is better than Metallica, there i said it... and no i dont want a cookie) but yea it would happen if they did tour. I agree with you.

Tool is an amazing band, and one of my favorites but I think Muse is a better live band.

None of the guys in Tool have the stage presence of Matt. They just stand there and recreate their amazing songs. I love Adam Jones's style of guitar playing, Hes one of the reasons i started playing guitar. But he isn't a dynamic live performer. Maynard usually sounds great but these days he doesn't give 100% of himself the way Matt almost always does.

I'd put Justin on the same level as chris in terms of stage presence. I'd give a slight advantage to Danny over Dom in terms of stage presence. Sure danny might deserve more respect at his craft, but while performing they both seem to be in the same ballpark in stage presence.

I'll happily take either band don't get me wrong. Also, I never saw tool on the lateralus or aenima tours, which were supposedly raw as fuck and incredible. I only saw 10,000 days shows, which sounded great but the performers themselves didn't seem to extatic to be there.

I love both Muse and Tool live. They are two of the best bands ever, and it would take a lot for me to miss either live.

However, I have to slightly respectfully disagree with you. I think Muse is great, but they are a little more flashy, silly, fun on stage...while I think Tool focuses on the music and artistry of the performance a little more. I am in no way ripping Muse, but I think Tool has slightly more integrity when playing live. Muse's kind of show has been done before, Tool's really hasn't. Sure, Matt has the stage presence, he shreds that guitar, but Danny Carey is just about the best drummer I've ever seen live.

If integrity = not being flashy, silly, fun... does that just mean "be boring?"

Some of the most amazing artists of our generation and those before are flashy, silly, fun, but still genius and respectful of their craft. Prince is the definition of flashy, silly, and fun, but the dude honors music by creating and performing it at a ridiculous pace.

You don't have to be overly serious to have integrity.

You don't. I didn't say Muse doesn't have integrity. I just said Tool has more. I'll take Maynard's silhouette over Matt's glitter jacket and Kanye glasses. That's just me.

I also said it will come down to personal taste. I do not disagree with you, but to me being serious and artsy show stays with me. A flashy show is fun when you're there but in the end you don't get as much out of it. Again, that's me. You don't have to agree.

bob dylan is depressing live now

I saw Bob Dylan in Connecticut in 2006 and it was maybe the worst live show I've ever seen. He's obviously got more artistic street cred than anyone.

I think a lot of people get disillusioned when they go see Dylan play these days and especially if you have never seen Dylan before. I have seen Dylan a lot -probably at least 18 times. I accepted that his voice isn't what it was and comes as a great shock to anyone who has only ever heard him from the 60's and 70's. But I was still enjoying the performances.
However, the last two Dylan shows I saw, even I was depressed by his voice. Only Dylan can get away with sounding this bad. I was shocked when hardcore Dylan fans reviewed the performance 'great'.

Tickets go on Sale Friday 5/13/2011 @ 10am.
They are $99 & $69 dollars (im guessing there's gonna be seats and GA?)

http://cbskroq.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/la_rising_385.jpg?w=385&h=512

should be pretty cool, KROQ is also having a pre-sale "soon" (so maybe sometime this week?)

There are quite a few, but be careful where you stay. There are quite a few no-tell motels around there.

There's a Radisson right there at USC on Figueroa. Also plenty of better hotels up Figueroa by LA Live/Staples too (Figueroa Hotel, Luxe, JW Marriott)...it's a 20 minute walk or a short cab from there.

05-09-2011, 09:50 AM
the radisson on figueroa is your best bet.

its right next to the coliseum and right across the street from USC.

any of the hotels at LA live you will need to cab it. its too far to walk

and there are lots of seedy motels around there so be careful. if you can't get a room at the radisson, do one of the downtown hotels.

hotel figueroa is awesome. great pool/lounge area

P.S. For those in LA area, are there any good shows happening that week/weekend? I might have to take a trip out there:)

what about americas best value inn?? im checking now and the radisson sounds great but im looking for just basics and a decent spot to lay down cuz me and my 2 brothers are going so this is more of a "just find a spot and sleep". we can rough it but i dont know the area and we are coming from Sacramento, the central valley, and arizona so any spots that will get us through it would be cool!

If you're talking about the one on 7th street you should be ok. Not the best area but way better than somewhere down on Figuerioa St. it will be quite a walk though. You seriously don't want to stay at just ANY spot around there. You have to understand that Figueroa is where people go searching for the kind of lovin that you need sheckles for. You might wind up with the jerps just cuz you just wanted to "just find a spot and sleep".

I just googled that inn and it's a very shady part of LA. It's the one right by Western and MLK Blvd? I think it'd be fine as a place to just sleep but just don't be surprised how crappy the area is going to be at night after the show. I'd avoid walking there at night if you can. And this is a heads up, the areas south of Martin Luther King Blvd are sketchy at night.

Don't understand why you need to sign up for the kroq street team to get the password? It isn't a unique password or gives you any advantage. Kroq just tell you sign up so they can spam your email.

KROQ Blows. This morning on the station one of the Deejays mentioned Filter (singer's birthday, I think) and asked "Hey Man Nice Shot... you remember that band?" The other deejay was like "Yeah, I remember them."

OF COURSE YOU DO. YOU WORK AT A PROMINENT ROCK 'N ROLL STATION. IF YOU DON'T, QUIT YOUR JOB!

I hate the radio. Too bad we're stuck listening to KROQ if we want festival news and so forth... or, in my case, if you're stuck on a 90 minute commute and tired of hearing about Andrew Bynum bodyslamming some Maverick.
