View Full Version : Gate Crasher Fails 2011

Im surprised some people got close enough to the gate to crash it. We didn't see any attempts on Friday but Saturday when we were at our locker we saw 3 in about a 20 min time frame. First guy made it to the end of the lockers and tripped over himself screwing himself, second guy made it to the ID check and got spun by security in to the lockers, third guy used second guy for a distraction but didn't count on another security guard waiting in the shadows for him, this all was right before 7. People were cheering like it was 4th down and 10 and the QB just got sacked when the security took the runners down.

I saw one guy get through while I was standing at my locker. Didn't know what the fuck was going on until it was too late. Looking back on it I wish I would have knocked the shit out of him. Hopefully that piece of shit ending up getting caught too.

Question is how are these guys getting into the camping area in the first place? Don't you have to scan a wristband to get into camping?

Saw them nail a woman, brunette, in her 20's around 6:30pm or so tonight. Two of the staff pro guys were so pumped they did a jump up and body slam to each other liked they just caught a TD pass in the NFL. The crowd did cheer.

Last night they had a wristband check on the way out. One guy's wristband showed it was bad. I'm 99% sure he didn't sneak in. That would totally suck to have your wristband deactivate while at the fest (though not as bad as deactivate when not at the fest).

Security has been great this year. My wristband was scanned 3 times on the way in (from the shuttle) and 2 times on the way out. They have multiple places to catch crashers. I suppose if someone can make it in without a wristband, they have super powers. If they can do it all 3 days......I think that would be highly improbable.

I think I saw the same guy. I was sure he'd be tackled soon after but he took off an there wasn't a security guard in sight. To the kid's credit it was pretty funny when he proclaimed "Free Speech!" as he made his way over the fence and down the lockers.

Saw a group of three get caught after dark by the lockers. In coachella's past, people cheered on the gatecrashers. This year there were cheers for security and police once they were caught.

Was right next to this as it happened. Sure hope that girl isn't dead, boy was that a hard hit.

And.....as the security guard that tackled was walking away he was swaggin and chirpin "girl don't know I played for the Chargers for 2 years".

Saw three people make it thru without being caught Saturday about 7.15pm.
NO ONE cheered for the crashers and there were some feeble attempts by festival goers to stop them. Sounds like most are being caught HOWEVER I did meet a group of douche bags who were proudly talking their asses off about how they all got in with two RFIDs by going to the white customer service tent and claiming their wristbands "broke" while in the festival. GV: you gotta scan the RFID when you fix a broken wristband and only allow one fix per weekend or one per day or something. Obviously someone may legitimately have a broken wristband or a non scanning RFID, but these bastard crashers will abuse the system any way they can.

Yeah it was strange how there wasn't security anywhere in sight. I came back to that area about an hour after that and it seemed like there was a guy in a yellow shirt positioned every 20 yards or so. I guess they finally realized they need to be out in force near the lockers.

Saw a fan bust a gatecrasher inside the Gobi.

We were walking in around 1:30 on Sunday and between the Mojavi and Gobi a supervisor-type on a golf cart was chasing down a guy on foot with a professional camera and no wristband (of any sort).

Chase went on for a minute and then the guy looped all the way around the Gobi and then into the tent near the rail so the golf-cart guy couldn't chase him in. The gatecrashing asshole stopped in the front of the tent near the security-clad entrance to back-stage where he got on his iPhone to probably give his buddies the 'all-clear' call.

30 seconds later, some other dude goes up to the stage security 5 feet away from this guy and whispers something in their ear. Security looks at his hand sees no wristband and grabs the guy who almost got away. But as he ran past, the same guy who gave him away to security grabbed his backpack strap until security caught back up and tackled him.

Not sure how that chase got started or how he got that far into the fest, but it was pretty funny to see him get busted by a paying patron.

Saw three young girls get caught trying to walk through with fake decoy wristbands on (they weren't even the right color and were plastic). An overweight lady walked them to security, why these three bitches didn't make a break for it, as they would have easily gotten away, is beyond me, but I was happy to see the sadness in their faces.

I have a sad one for you guys. I was walking to Caspa and a gate crasher, who was small and skinny just sped away from a bigger security guard. Unfortunately the security guard tripped and got up and looked really embarrassed.I felt bad for the guy, he just got up and slowly walked away. He no longer pursued the crasher

Damn, feels good to tell my first Coachella story, EVER.

I have a couple of friends who snuck into VIP area Friday night with no bracelets walking past a guard caught looking the other way...they got to sleep in a hammock, eat a nice breakfast...Saturday and Sunday they made it into the festival with a simple wristband swap outside the entrance to day parking.

There were definitely others who did this too.

Half the security guards looked like they just got out of Indio County.

I almost wasn't let in sunday because unbeknownst to me, I guess I had to scan my wristband when I was leaving, which i think is a load of bullshit, and on Sunday my wristband registered as fake. Thank god the lady at the gate was cool enough to let me in when I explained the situation to her. She just said security wasn't properly doing their job by not informing people to scan when leaving but she said I wouldn't be allowed in if it happened again.

Mad props to security...they didn't catch the only gate hopper I knew there...

But they did point out a pair of sunglasses dropped....didn't trip about the piles of moly or shrooms being consumed....and the one time we got rolled.

Yellow shirt and black shirt superior rolled oon my buddy while he was rolling a blunt for the group. The security guard toook the blunt. Asked if he had more herb(he didn't,cause I was the mule) buddy said no. Guard asks him how old he is and lemme see your id....checked his id and gave back the blunt.

Boom.

Security was awesome this year, lost and found info guys were cool too. Mad props to staff. Good times.

That sounds cool. People were rolling joints and blunts openly in tent camping. Security went through there on horses about once every morning, then promptly disappeared to car camping for the day. Pretty sad, but I can't recall needing the bastards in the camping area. Thursday night, I dropped my cell on the ground in one of the portapotties. I asked the first security guard I saw if he'd let me call my phone from his. He looked slightly hesitant, then just handed it over. Pretty cool shit, really. Got the phone back, and went on with the weekend. I had no problems with any individual this past weekend, security, attendee, good times.

Saw two successful crashers roaming around the campgrounds next year, the guy was kind of a douche but I still just can't snitch on people. They were greasy as hell from some of the fences, not sure how they did it though and still got into the festival, tripping pretty hard when I met them.

Seems like I saw some guy just inside the venue who looked sort of beat up (somewhat physically, somewhat mentally, mayhap), and for the first time all weekend, I looked for a wristband on him. I didn't see one, but I was also on the move to do my thing, so it may have been there, but I doubt it.

I got a good one for you!

Friday night probably around 3am or so, Lot-8 car camping.
I guess this guy had snuck in 4 times, caught, and on the 5th time made it to our car-camping spot, he tripped over our cooler whiling dashing from the security guard and fell near my car. A host of yellow&blacks fell on him and it was over like that.

But wait theres more.
I guess they did a quick search of the area for anything he dropped and found my friend's bong under my car, and wine bottles from our neighbors, and a second bong from our neighbors. That sucked.
I guess it was our fault for not concealing it well, but its Coachella, and our bong was underneath the car though :(
They just took it and walked away with the dude.

I did see one kid jump from the lockers onto the festival grounds and cheer that he made it in. I yelled at him as loud as I could that he was a fucking gatecrasher, calling attention to him.

But he managed to walk away, hopefully he got caught eventually.

But every time I was near the lockers (except at the end of the night) it seemed like there was someone being wisked away on a golf cart, usually without a wristband, except for the shiny metal ones, one on each wrist, attached together by a small chain, of course.

Definitely wouldn't mind seeing someone get torn in half by Debo in CSC on a flying tackle, but I didn't even think about gate crashers the majority of the time. It was pretty solid as far as the people there go, to me. There were tons of people, but still room to breath. The lines for anything were generally fine. If not, walk to the next stand farther from whatever stage you were at, and it'd be mostly empty.

Interesting point if you think about it because I would assume the opposite happened last year. All the losers who got in probably spread the word on how easy it was to get in and I would have expected more to attempt to sneak in this year. Just makes you realize how well amped up security and wristband control really was.

yeah i did. it was definitely better this year, i think it was also because less people didn't even try to sneak in due to all the heightened security talk though. out of like the 40 people who i knew who did try however, only about 2 couldnt get in. most just volunteered to be security and then walked off their shifts and the others just straight dug holes under fences. i'm not proud of them or condoning it any way possible, it was just funny to see because i thought this year it was literally gonna be impossible.

Looked like he was gonna get away too when "Debo" stepped out into view and the gate crasher gave a look like "OH SHIT! ok, you got me you got me..." and gave himself up instead of getting tackled. Quite the let down. Everyone boooooed that was watching as there was no tackle.

Fuck it, give them an option. Either get thrown out and banned from the fields for the entire weekend or give them a chance to get in by lining them up in stockade up and down 51st, 52nd, Monroe, and Madison for 3 full set on the Coachella stage to be humilited and have shit throw at them the whole time. If they can withstand that humiliation then let them have an evening pass for just the headliner of one night and only one night, but the pass isn't good until after the headliner has already started and everyone has set up their places.

Mario Lopez may or may not be kind of a douche, but he's fucking hot.

So about this scanning wristbands on the way out thing.... what's the deal with that? We left through the shuttle exit every day and were never asked to do that, and our bands worked fine each day. We literally had zero problems - it was possibly one of the smoothest concert experiences I've ever had.

PlayaDelWes
04-22-2011, 12:32 PM
I would imagine they wanted people during the day to scan out so you don’t take 5 wristbands back out to your friends. The assumption is that if your wristband already scanned ‘in’ to the festival without scanning ‘out’, that would be a red flag for security to check out if you were trying to scan 'in' again.

When leaving with the masses at night, there is no need to scan out since people aren’t trying to circumvent the system at that point.

They scanned my wristband getting on the shuttle instead of my shuttle pass. I thought it was strange and asked the security woman why, she just said it was random. Never had a problem once with it not scanning on entrance.

They should've had an art installation in the middle of the sun where they could chain all the gate crashers for a couple hours to get sunburn and get spicy pies thrown at them.

what a waste of spicy pies

One of my buddy's wristbands didn't work even though he bought it from stubhub. He was so paranoid they wouldn't let him in that he snuck in all three days.

Funniest thing I saw...there were guards actually standing behind each gate to block crashers. It was a pretty slow time of day, so there were no lines. One guy started running top speed towards a gate and the guard didn't look prepared. Then the guy screeched to a halt inside the gate and scanned his wristband, then jumped up and down like he had won something.

first thing on friday, i had 3 random fellas come up to me asking where to find wristbands (uh... yea?) they said they took off and ran through both sets of the lines (again... ?!?) i made it seem like i didn't mind and told them to go to the merch booth (where they would've passed by about 15-20 guards waiting to catch fuckers such as themselves)

i did that on friday night right before flogging molly, funny thing is, my wristband turned up red when i tried to get back in (we came to the conclusion that it wasn't scanned out when i left since they had the gates open to let the masses out), the poor fella was so taken aback that i actually stopped that he said he would've let me go even if i didn't stop.

I saw some girl get tackled by a few guys in yellow down the locker gauntlet, don't know why she thought she could sprint in sandals.

I would imagine they wanted people during the day to scan out so you donít take 5 wristbands back out to your friends. The assumption is that if your wristband already scanned Ďiní to the festival without scanning Ďoutí, that would be a red flag for security to check out if you were trying to scan 'in' again.

When leaving with the masses at night, there is no need to scan out since people arenít trying to circumvent the system at that point.

this + data. The info collected is valuable in helping them improve staffing and crowd logistics.

I saw a stream of people crawling from underneath a trailer by the portapotties near the food court area. I'd say, at least 10. They would pop out, look around suspiciously, and bled into the crowd. I think they all made it.

I think on Friday/maybe Sat. midday we saw a older Mexican woman get slammed to the ground about 40 feet from the merch booth and picked up by her pony tail and drug off to a cart. It appeared to be a really tall full dressed cop that nabbed her. Someone else yelled at the cop why do you have to pick her up by her hair? We don't know if she was a crasher or why it happened but it surprised us both when it happened.

the security was awesome this year! I do think that whoever owns the polo grounds could do a little more to the venue itself to help prevent sneak-ins. example : barbed wire & rebar pounded into the ground at certain areas to deter people from climbing over the fence or digging under it.

I heard some of the security in 2011 was ex-military and cops. Probably why they were actually doing something. But they did break one gatecrashers neck... thats kinda fucked up

Dayum. It sounds like security was no joke this year. I didn't go this year, so I can't imagine how much more better it will be if they keep this up.

2010=congestion in the worst way.

My friends snuck in around 8PM Sunday. They went to Kinkos and made crew passes. Simple yet effective.

I'm sure I mentioned this already but I met a couple who snuck in and found wrist bands on the ground eventually. Several of the gates were greased which left them greased and generally dirty looking.
