Lead singer decided to throw a weird temper tantrum about something....and left the stage. He then came back for the rest of the set to just stand there looking pissy & picking at his thumb while the rest of the band sang the lyrics for him.

Him leaving the stage was the best thing that could happen
for that band. AWFUL.

Is that what happened? I saw him standing there looking like a douche. What an ass.

He was having it out with the sound guys. I had a feeling he was gonna get all diva when he wouldn't face the crowd. At one point you could see the basist mouth "fucken stupid" lol

This is why Pitchfork is possibly the worst thing to happen to music. I met the main guy's mother in the beer garden in 09, and him later in the day when his mother recognized me again, he was nice then.

Because rock stars didn't act like douchebags before Pitchfork.

More on this: At one point he attempted to cause annoying/painful feedback by putting his microphone against the guitar amp, which didn't work. Secondly, it seemed to turn into this faceoff wherein he just danced to his music without singing knowing that it would irritate the crowd, whereas the crowd seemed to stay put just to oppose him. He finally broke down and jumped in for the end of L'Estat and Round and Round, and then just walked off. I personally wasn't irritated and thought that it was just as entertaining as a "real" set would be.

Has anyone figured out exactly what was the cause of this all?

They're an indie band. Rock stars act like that, yes. You have to get the fame before you are the prima donna.

Alice glass from Crystal Castles was having mic issues too but still went out and gave a great performance on 1 working leg.

Anyone notice how empty the tent is in the background post-Ariel during the interviews? Was it like that all weekend?

Over the last 2-3 years I've noticed an upsurge in such occurences where random artists appear to be disgruntled whether it be from negligence or mishandling of equipment on part of the festival's techs/operatives/stage crew etc. On a few occasions I've witnessed this but in several other instances I've also been told by individuals who are privy.

Security certainly doesn't have a good track record in this regard but now I find myself questioning the manner in which Coachella's staff conduct themselves (regardless of who's set they happen to be working) and if perhaps it deters other high-caliber prospects who have been courted by the festival's promoters.
