Good call. So when I want to meet up with my group if we get separated or if an emergency arises, I can just chill out. Why would you need a phone for anything Coachella related?

Wanting to have a phone that doesn't drop one out of every four calls is not being hipster. That's just wanting a phone that works like...a phone.

Turn off 3G, easy as that. Everyone uses 3G and if you were smart you would turn it off because most people didn't know you still get service when it's off and not as many people using it = more service for you.

The only service problems I've encountered occurred during Mumford & Sons. Otherwise, no problems whatsoever.

Well, plans to communicate via means other than ESP were sadly dashed.

How can you get 5 bars and not be able to connect to anything?

Too many devices = interference? Towers overwhelmed?

I was only able to get connected a couple times using 2G and pretending to be an iphone. :dumbo

Text messaging seems to be working though.

AT&T seemed pretty decent this year...there were a few problems and lags Fri night, and a couple on Saturday...but Sunday was no delay at all....texts came right away and calling actually worked as well.

I was pleasantly surprised at the massive difference in cell service this year. I was calling, texting, tweeting, facebooking, emailing... all with no issues... I think maybe three times through the course of the weekend I found myself without proper service and even then it came back pretty damned quick.

Not sure if this is a factor of more cell towers, more people having purchased droids and/or verizon iPhones in the last year (thus spreading out traffic over multiple carriers and reducing the load on AT&T's network) or what.

I also found that the wifi service throughout the grounds was much better this year as well.

I've never had an issue before, but there were a few times this year that I couldn't get a signal. I have a Droid X.

I was walking around the outskirts of the polo fields on Thursday night and you could notice that there were shitloads of portable towers brought in.

AT&T was hit or miss for me. Friday I could get texts but couldn't send texts/data or place calls after like 8PM -- even when my friend standing right next to me with the same carrier and phone could. Of course I tried turning off 3G, and still no love. Wi-fi also seemed to be down Friday night (as a bunch of other people confirmed). Saturday night was fine though.

The cell service this year was the best I'd ever had at Coachella. Texts were a little delayed at night when everyone was fucked up and trying to meet their friends, but I've come to expect that. During the day, my text service was pretty consistent. I even made a few phone calls with no problems.

It seemed this year AT&T had better service then Verizon!

My friend's Verizon iPhone was much worst then my AT&T iPhone.
I had trouble Saturday night, but that was to be expected with probably the biggest crowd of the event.

I'm on Verizon and I had no problems at all. I was worried as this is my first year with a droid, but calls/texts/ and internet all worked perfectly for me and it never really had to work to find a signal which kept may battery power good.

turn off your phone for a few days a chill the fuck out.

I gotta say this is what I've done every year. If the group gets split up we meet at the Tesla Coils (or last year the Fire Whirlwind thing) or back at camp. I've been split off by myself quite a few times and had a blast. And the LAST thing I ever want to hear at Coachella is my cell ringing. I hear that too much every single day and Coachella is my escape.

Yes. I got 42 in one hit, and then a dozen or so a few minutes later.

Friday was horrible, especially in the tents. I got full bars for 3.5G, the signal was maxed out, I got an IP address, but could not connect to any websites. At some point the weather app was able to get updates but that was about it. Only way to connect at all was to use EDGE and use an app to pretend I had an iphone.

Is there such a thing as *too much* signal? A good signal does not help if there is so much traffic that whatever routing system they use can't handle it.

The rest of the weekend wasn't as bad. I was able to get online Saturday and Sunday most times I tried.

The few times someone called me the connection was fine.

Actually... this is the first year of the past three that I've had ANY service at Coachella. You guys like to bitch about getting texts late, but this was the first year I was ever able to send/receive texts/calls PERIOD. Which means, yeah, I had to walk to Ralph's if I wanted to find a payphone. Be happy with the limited service you got, yos! I couldn't receive calls inside the venue, but I still got texts, and could make calls. Interesting, to me.
