Went to the RJD2 / Busdriver show in C-bus Friday night. Some of you wanted a report on how Busdriver and the new RJ stuff went over.
Here ya go:
RJD2 played a good show - not great. I'm afraid the new stuff is kinda weak, or maybe that its just so different and so new, either way people weren't feeling it. 75% of his show is live instrumentation of his own songs including past favorites, then there is a nice 30 minute chunk of him dj-ing by himself. This was the best part of the show imho.(live band version of The Horror was amazing though)
Busdriver - super surprising and really fun. This guy is going to kill at Coachella, even if he's on early (more on that at the bottom). His rapping skills (freestyle included) are fast and furious, he looked as if he had a great time, even though he said he was real sick. They (Busdriver and Anti MC) brought out some sweet samples for this live show including Daft Punk, Pet Shop Boys and The Super Furry Animals' "A Touch Sensitive" that was in-behind the song Gun Control, it was awesome.
I talked to him briefly at the merch table after the show. I asked him about his Coachella slot. He said he was in the GOBI TENT and was either the first or second act on, seemed a little bummed about it, but I said I'll see him there, and he smiled. Nice dude.
As soon as youtube finishes uploading my short digi vids - I'll put one or two on here, so you'll see what I'm talking about. The vids come complete with party hats, because as busdriver said, "when I'm on stage, its party time".
