How well does security check your car?
Also how strict are they about the 18+ for camping?

Depends who's searching, and yes 18+ is extremely enforced.

Sort of the luck of the draw on car search, some people they check everything and some people they check hardly at all so hard to call it. I think the over 18 for camping is again sort of hit or miss. Probably easier on Friday after the festival than on Thursday when there are less people there but again sort of luck of the draw.

Agree on the hit or miss on the security search. The 18+ policy appeared to be strictly enforced. I saw 3 cars that had people stopped at the gate.

Agree with columbiagorge, I didn't see a single ID check getting in Thursday and the search on the minivan my friend drove in was pathetic, guy even found a little knife in a buddy's camping bag and said I didn't see that.

Just hide it as if they're gonna put a flashlight up your asshole, but hope that you get by with a simple nod and a wave

Remember anyone can go into the camping areas with a festival wristband.

They moderately checked us Thursday, we had prepaired for a full cavity search but didn't need it. I think I could have gotten away having everything in my pockets

I was 17 when I went last year and I wasn't actually camping, but I did go in and out of the camping area as freely as I wanted. I parked in a risky spot and walked in to get my wristband Thursday night. (I went to the Box Office outside the gate and then they told me to go around to the camping area to get my wristband put on me). Anyway it made getting into the festival a lot easier on Friday morning and I was never harassed. This is just my experience... seems like I just lucked out and this isn't how things normally go down.

Last year for car camping I brought in about 200 bottles of assorted beer bottles and a couple half gallon bottles of liquor no problem :D. Could have gotten a keg in pretty easily.

And in 4 years, some with people under 18, Ive never seen an ID checked.

So unless youre either an idiot or completely conspicuous looking, just use some common sense and creativity and you'll be fine.

say if they do find something, will they kick you out? or just confiscate it?

They'll probably just confiscate it (at 'Roo there was a giant moving truck they would dump stuff in), lots of money lost by kicking people out...

They dump it in a locked metal container that looks like a smoker. I think they film the people that cry and show the compilation on Youtube. They lock it so the cops won't have to much fun after hours.

so... sounds like it's total luck of the draw. unless you look sketchy. fuck. I am not a sketchy mofo, hell my job trusts me to walk around with ten grand of their money sometimes. but security personal think i am THE SKETCHIEST LOOKING MOTHERFUCKER!

I've never had my car searched and they've never cared about people under 18.

Oh, you aren't camping at Lake Cahuilla?

If I got anything stamped with a Maserati and it wasn't cut with speed I'd feel ripped off.

during the day they are more likely to search. at night when it gets super busy they do the searches faster. but be warned, the indio police are doing the searching this year, not some private security company.

Tehota, it seems like that article only mentions the one mile check point, where they won't search your car at all. I think they might just have those marines do the checking which can be up or down.
