Hey, first time at coachella. i'm currently investigating what camping gear to bring but have read that it gets flipping hot and tents aren't always the best idea.
Does anyone have any idea what the weather will be like? are we best to bring a tent or more of a canopy structure?
cheers,
torie

This time of year the weather isn't too bad. At least for us desert rats ;) ;)... Some people bring camp fans... Drink lots of water, stay hydrated.

2010: 91, 89, 91
2009: 89, 94, 99
2008: 93, 100, 98
2007: 97, 103, 95

I'm not going back any further, but as you can see expect hot weather. Moving up the festival a week or two has helped alleviate the triple digits. However, fully expect it to be in the 90's

The trade-off here is that while 100+ days are unlikely in mid-April, the nights can get surprisingly cold. Which means that even if you really don't want to, it's worth carrying a sweatshirt around (or moving yourself so far forward at night that you're surrounded by warm bodies. :))

That's what I've heard! I'll definitely be packing a sweatshirt. I attend Sasquatch every year and it's the same situation. The nights easily can get down into the low 40's and on top of that some pretty wicked winds can sweep through the canyon. Deserts are tricky like that.

You obviously haven't had the pleasure of living there in the mid-late summer. For the high of each day, that's perfectly believable :)

Think it's average high

'unlikely' might be a bit of an overstatement. prior history has shown that coachella weekend is always warmer than the days immediately preceding and following it.

Just be glad Coachella isn't during a 120 degree summer, it never gets that hot in April. Here's hoping for low 80's this year.

This

I wouldn't describe it as extreme cold - I live in the bay area, so it's a normal temperature, and I'm almost always in shorts and a t-shirt when I'm not at work.

But when the temperature drops 30-35 degrees and I've been walking around all day in a tank top or with no shirt on ... and I'm outside and the wind has picked up? Then, yeah, it feels d*mn cold. :) Nice, to be sure, for the first half hour. By hour 3, not so much.

Because us Californians are pussies and don't know the meaning of cold weather.
