So I'm flying to LAX and don't have much room for heavy/bulky necessities (pop-up canopy, cases of water, etc etc) but will have room in the car. Where do you guys stop between LAX and Indio on the road to get your last-minute essentials? Exact locations would be helpful, I want to plot out a map.

I came from LAX last year and stopped at the closest Walmart (google it). We got all of our supplies (suncare, emergency kits, etc), water, food, and camping gear in one shot.

Well these are the closest things for camping and supplies, but if you wait until Palm Desert it might be crowded and pilfered through:

Walmart Supercenter
79295 Us Highway 111, La Quinta, CA

Big 5 Sporting Goods
72284 Highway 111, Palm Desert, CA

Are there any good outlet stores on the same route?

Yes, but I don't know if they are the type of stores that are needed:

Desert Hills Premium Outlets
48400 Seminole Drive, Cabazon, CA
http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=6

You can check it out and see if anything meets your needs, but its mostly clothing outlets. Its right off the I-10 next to Morongo Casino.

Even the Walmarts closer to Indio can run out of things Coachella weekends (sleeping bags, coolers, etc.) so you may want to stop before you get too close if you are coming later in the day. And it's easy to map Walmarts and Targets online.

I'm gonna get my camping gear around the LA area to avoid a Wal Mart clusterfuck. Was gonna get a nice pair of polarized glasses but I can always hit up MOA on Monday before our flight takes off the next morning

Target (Near LAX)
3535 South La Cienega Boulevard, Los Angeles 90016

Do not wait until you get closer to the fest...you'll miss out on a lot of important stuff that way, because everyone else will have the same bright idea. Stop somewhere in LA and get EVERYTHING you need!

There's a Walmart in Banning/Beaumont just off I-10. There are multiple Walmarts, Targets, Costco's, and Sam's Clubs from LAX to Indio.

I highly suggest stopping at the Walmart off the 10 freeway in Baldwin Park. 3250 Big Dalton Avenue Baldwin Park, CA 91706

Better to get everything before you get in the area and you have other chances since there are a slew of other Walmarts on the way.

It's right off the 10 freeway so you can't get lost for you out-of-towners, about 20min (pending traffic) out of LA, stop there and you won't regret it.

I'm not familiar with what Walmart stocks, do they sell food and beer? Will be driving from Palm Springs and looking for a one stop shop (food, beer, camping supplies, etc) and don't really want to make multiple stops as I will get lost and drive on the wrong side of the road!

Also, do you have to be a member to shop at Costco? Been to one in the UK and from memory you needed a membership card to buy stuff.

as long as it is a walmart SUPERCENTER they will have everything... if it is a older walmart they might not have groceries, beer, and liquor... all the walmarts in the coachella valley are supercenters ... usually what they might run out of is camping gear locally

yes you do need to be a member to shop at costco...

Great, thanks for the info! Looks like a Walmart Supercentre is just what I'm looking for.

If you know what you want, you can have it shipped to a WalMart for free. No one can buy it from under you. Visit walmart.com

Often their selection is better than at the store.

Yeah most Walmarts have site to store, so you can have a good amount of your gear waiting for you to make it a quick stop instead of a ridiculous Walmart trip.

For canopies id buy them at the store and not online (unless you do the camping starter kit.)
