"You must follow all instructions..."

Apparently that means I need to go all the way west to Washington and turn around so I can be on "10 Fwy Eastbound".

Seriously though, I wonder if this means taking Monroe to Ave 52 won't work this year due to barricades.

Ya I'm interested in the flow for day parking. They don't really seem to list those restrictions on the map. Obviously Avenue 52 will be open in some capacity (or perhaps only for day parking? since campers come down Monroe), but who knows how they will direct it/from where. Too bad they couldn't have included that as well :(

Also I find it hilarious that the I-10 is depicted above Avenue 49

I guess it's hilarious if you already know that it's actually several stoplights between the I-10 and Avenue 49/ I think there's actually 5 lights before you even get to Hwy 111, and once you cross that, it's another 4-5 lights to Ave.49

Because all car camping enters at the toll booth entrance and makes their way up. It would make the most sense to fill lot 5 before lot 8 in this scenario

Sparky, there are no barricades on Monroe, they're just on 49, 50, & 51. You'll be able to use Monroe to get to 52nd, just like previous years.

You can't say this with 100% certainty.

Alligator Bogaloo
03-27-2011, 04:58 PM
There will probably be checkpoints but no barricades preventing us from using Monroe. There are no barricades on the map like there are for 49, 50, & 51st. Also, if we weren't able to use Monroe they would have shown that on the map. It's open just like Jefferson and Madison.

I think the important question here is which day parking lot is closest to the exit! Will exiting from Lot 4 -> Ave 50 -> Jefferson -> Hwy 111 be a possibility? I am willing to walk farther in order to not sit in my car for 3 hours!

Any idea?

I think we usually park at Lot 16.

Redundant567

Yeah you completely lucked out, my friend. Saturday night last year we were in Lot 15, which had to be funneled into Lot 16 to exit out the corner of Monroe & 52, and after a 2.5 hour wait, someone pulled down the fence at 52nd between Lots 14 & 15 and everyone just drove over the chain link fence to get out.

Although I'll attribute some of our luck to bolting from the exit to the car, we had similar experiences with lots 14, 15, and 16 as well. Took us between 15 minutes and 30 minutes all three nights. It was however pretty random where they let us in and out of each lot and there were some signs of debatable traffic flow such as:

Actually I guess we weren't funneled to Lot 16. It looks like we were in 15A, everyone was funneled down to the bottom right corner of 15D, and eventually people ran over the fence at the bottom of 15C.

My friend was among the firsts to show up last year with her car and she claims she was directed to Lot 10. Can anybody confirm this?
I normally never rely on her with directions but she kept talking about how much better of a spot my group got, saying her section was a big snooze fest.

My party got in line while the sun was going down and we got put in Lot 8 right by the farmer's market/internet cafe and a short walk from the after hours stage.

My car's the dark blue hatchback and my party went about 5 cars deep, facing both sides.
It was a mission to keep us all in together but over all it was well worth it! I kind of just wanted to post this picture, but hopefully someone can provide some insight or gain some based on our experience. Can't wait!

If she was one of the first ones in, she would have been in lot 12A, they filled that one first. We got there at 10 am on Thurs. This year, it looks like they will fill lot 5 first and then 8.

Sooo, they're funneling EVERY camper down Madison .. safe to assume that's going to be a total nightmare on Thursday night?

I couldn't get off work Thursday, so I'm leaving SD around 6 to 7, meaning it'll be around 9 to 10 when we get to the fest ... anyone have any educated guesses as to how bad the traffic is going to be given that everyone has the go down that same path?

I'm wondering if they'll let you go around on Monroe and cut back?? Or will that probably be just as backed up if they even are allowing it??

Ideally I just don't want to be sitting in my car for hours considering I'm already getting there fairly late!

I don't know that it matters that much...everyone has to enter through the same gate anyway. Closing access at 52 may actually make sense, because traffic can flow more freely, rather than 2 streams of traffic turning into the same gate from different directions.

If the gate is wide enough, the best option would be two lanes entering, one from each direction. Direct the people arriving from Madison to the left-most search lines, and people turning off 52 to the right. But maybe they are just trying to keep two major streets from getting bogged down.

They put the taxi stop next to the tent camping entrance. That is an improvement.

Last year that was a big mess up, map wasn't posted ahead of time and still has me bitter of having to walk 90 minutes with camping gear on my back in noon heat and no guards having clue and being sent to the wrong places.
