If anyone is in the market for a pocket video camera they have a sale right now at office max:

http://www.officemax.com/catalog/sku.jsp?skuId=22309592

This has gotten a lot of good reviews and I've searched on youtube for footage from coachella last year and the pictures are really clear and good sound quality. I just picked one up and gonna try test it out at a couple of shows before coachella to get used to all the features.

I just got one for my birthday a month ago and it's awesome. I've used it a couple of shows. The picture and sound quality is great. Definitely bringing it with me on April 15!

Hey my zi8 came in on friday and i've had some time to check it out and I'm very happy with it. Today I ordered a 16g sd card, which by my estimates should hold a little over 2 hours of 1080p video. Thanks again for the suggestion

nice! this takes memory cards so no need to dump stuff onto a computer to make room, just bring alot of card right?

just tried ordering one from office max over the phone and they are saying these are on back order for the next 7-21 days:eek:

edit: screw it, any other camera like this is over $150. order placed, crossing my fingers here.

No Problem! I think the battery life for the camera lasts around an hour and a half or so. I was gonna purchase an additional battery to keep with me cause I know that will probably run out before the memory card. I saw one on amazon for about $17.

When I first ordered my camera it said it was on back order too but then it shipped like a couple days later.

are the really cheap batteries (read: <$5) on ebay not even worth it? i'm seriously considering splurging on this camera.

Just ordered one. Random thought, compile all the video taken on these and make a coachella movie.

^^^^same here.

So how much quality filming time will be able to fit on the 4 GB card I purchased alongside the camera itself?

im looking at a 32 gig card, when it comes to cards i've never really had any problems using what ever. Never really bought batteries out side of AA's so i don't know but would def like to know if and what one i should get before coachella.

i have a flip that's a little over a year old, but i don't really like it for concert stuff. there's no external memory card and the sound quality is pretty bad.

edit: here's my youtube with some our chella footage from last year shot entirely with a flipvideo camera

Thanks, I think the zi8 is the way to go! One thing though; it says on the info/FAQ that no video cameras/audio recording devices are allowed. Are they pretty lax on that?

god only knows why they'd bother considering most point and shoot digital cameras these days can capture both video and audio...

Just got mine from UPS today, it's AWESOME!

Looking online they said that you get about 20 minutes per GB depending on the quality you're recording and how many frames per second you're shooting. I decided to go with a 16 gig off amazon. Hopefully I can use it to make a sweet unboxing video of my Coachella passes now!

just got mine yesterday as well along with my coachella car campin passes. now i gotta get a memory card also. arent there about 20 minutes or so worth of video for every GB? is it important to get a higher class memory card or will a class 6 work well?

Sweet, got mine today. I actually totally forgot about ordering this, so I'm stoked it came before I leave for LCD on Saturday. Got this and my Coachella wristband in the same delivery. Christmas!

Now I gotta order some SD cards and extra batteries.

It's totally worth it. I played around shooting video and taking pictures at sunset for about five minutes last night and was completely sold. It is LIGHT YEARS better than the video and photos on my HTC smart phone and my shitty old digital camera. So happy I made this purchase. Plus, the price has already raised $10 on the Office Max site.

so wait, there's no problem bringing in Flip Cams and Zi8's and whatever into the festival? I read the "NO VIDEO CAMERAS" thing and figured they'd be frowned upon...but apparently they don't care?

Stickjohn
04-10-2011, 10:33 PM
Technically they are not allowed but like all these types of questions it all depends on what security guard is checking you. Some don't care about anything. One year I was not allowed to bring a cheap ball point stick pen in. Who knows. Don't whine if you have to walk back to your car or tent or get asked to leave the festival if you are recording artists.

stick it up your butt. That seems to be the going theme this year.

Aphxtwinin

the Zi8 can pass as a blackberry/any phone. as long as your guard is not crazy thorough you should be fine
