Hey guys!
I just wanted to share my Campsite plan for this year! I'm bringing the geo dome to Coachella! We made it to keep out the sun no matter where the sun is during the day. We got two campsites and also note the pool... very useful since you are pouring out your ice chests every day... its nice to pour out the cold water into something you can stick your feet into. Let me know what you guys think!~

There should be a tent/campsite of the year award. This looks great by the way!

They don't let you choose how to orient your cars. Both will be nose-out into the aisle.

Last year the people next to us had one of their cars sideways. They had to put it in nose out originally on Thursday night, but then on Friday they moved it perpendicularly. They had a small car, and it was a tight fit, but they managed to parallel park it in there. If your car is under 10' you should be chill. Don't try and re park your car whole fucked up though, it looked
Pretty tricky.

I like the idea.

the mini pool to dump ice chest water in is a decent idea too

I agree, I think it would be cool to see what people came up with.

Very cool. What is the dome constructed out of, and what are its dimensions?

I made it out or metal conduit. Its about 17 ft in diameter. It's very strong and on the inside we are hanging 3 hammocks off the walls. The covering is parachute material that has been fitted to the structure. It cost me abot $150 in materials and took me about a day to make all the pieces. Check out this website. Its a lot of work but really awesome when your done.

Love the idea, but I hope you have either Toyota Prius' or smaller cars, or very understanding neighbors, because by my calculations it will be a very tight squeeze even under those circumstances.

The Prius is about 14.5 feet long and over 5.5 feet wide. A couple quick pics for illustration (assuming the dome is approximately 17 feet round).

When you have a finite rectangular space to work with, the whole idea of a round structure is just silly. It’s such an inefficient use of space. Even with the cars tucked away nicely, you have all that wasted triangular space in the corners outside your dome.

The best way to fill up a rectangle is with other rectangles such as putting walls on shade canopies, etc…

/ round pegs in square holes

You can keep the sun out all you want, it's still gonna be an oven by seven AM, just an awesome dome oven.

Maybe they have two camping spots and are planning to arrive together to get side-by-side car camping places. Then it'd work just fine.

If there had been some of that wasted triangle space in our camp sight last year, that dumb bimbo dancing through the campgrounds, singing, "Has anyone seen Lucy," wouldn't have plowed through the back side of our tent, trying to find her way out of the tight fit she had gotten her self into. lol

My illustrations already assume two spaces together

Just putting this out there again.

Last year the people next to us had one of their cars sideways. They had to put it in nose out originally on Thursday night, but then on Friday they moved it perpendicularly.

What this suggests is that you would need to sleep on the ground the first night and then on Friday during the day you may get away with repositioning one of your cars.

They had a small car, and it was a tight fit, but they managed to parallel park it in there. If your car is under 10' you should be chill.

How many cars are there that are under 10' long? The Smart Car can be about 9', some Mini Coopers can be just a hair over 10' (though others are 11'.)

Even a VW Beetle is 13'. My '01 Honda Civic 4-door is 14.5'.

I guess it all depends on the size of the Geo Dome.

The "about" can make a big difference... see how tight TheClares' first picture is on space? Every inch is going to come into play here, even the poles and stakes. :)

One idea would be to have two people drive two cars there, unpack, and then later have someone drive one car away (the occupant to show up later) - you could park the remaining car/truck/whatever horizontally across both spots, having plenty of room. And then set up the dome with ample space.

If anyone gives you crap about it you could always say the person who took the car had to leave, knowing full well they couldn't return to the car campground.

That'd be allowed, right? I saw one car on two spots last year, that's what they did.

I did get a few companion parking passes with this idea in mind... So it will only be tight for a few hours of set up. But if the plan doesn't work we tested out the layout a few days ago and it works.

It's not like they have a tape measure out when they park you. If you need an extra foot of width, just take it.

People were re-arranging their cars and sites on Thursday night just fine, if anything get it done ASAP before your neighbors have their shit strewn all over the place.
