View Full Version : Are Kings of Leon going to cancel?

Kings of Leon have cancelled their Australian and South Africa tour they had scheduled for March (last date being the 27th) because of Nathan's arm. Apparently it is under doctor's orders and he has been told to have 3 months off to let it heal. So either Coachella is their first gig back or they will cancel.

I am hoping they cancel.

Update: The tour promoters, Frontier Touring, have issued a statement to confirm that “the Kings Of Leon tour has been postponed from March 2011 to November 2011 to allow drummer Nathan Followill to recover from surgery for a torn right labrum and bicep”. Doctors have advised that at least three months will be required for Nathan to recover post surgery to ensure the injury doesn’t reoccur.

Ticket-holders should hold onto their tickets until further details are released. A new itinerary is currently being worked up for November and more news will be announced later this week.

I mean, they are canceling all the other shows.. let's just maybe try and find a replacement for KOL altogether. Not to bash them (i used to really like them actually), but I have no intention of seeing them as I have already left during their headlining gig at Sasquatch.

wait a sec... this article says..

Apparently, a “bum wing” is an injury to Nathan's shoulder (a torn right labrum and bicep, to be precise) sustained last year. He is still recovering from surgery to fix it.

Well, a thought on this might be that contracts to sign bands to play Coachella were in the works for months prior to the official announcement dropping. Maybe GV/band mgmt did not fully realize the severity of his injury and hoped he would be well in time?

And honestly I sure hope KOL thinks more of themselves as a band than to just allow anyone to play drums for them. But then I am not a fan of the band so I don't really know.

If someone is willing to get me a personal item of any of the KOL members, I will create for you and ship to you a proper voodoo doll with instruction for it's use.

I'm actually a little diappointed they might not be playing, because I had no intention of being near that stage. It just opens the door for a conflict where I previously wouldn't have had one. I also want to say Franz Fucking Ferdinand tore the mainstage open in '09 even with Nick McCarthy in a cast from a broken leg. js

The only viable solutions if KoL cancels:

Move Strokes to Friday (leave Kanye for Sunday close)

Replace KoL with better act such as QOTSA, Talking Heads, Bowie, STP, or any numerous other bands, and leave Kanye for Sunday close
Move The Chemical Brothers to Friday headline; leave Kanye for Sunday close

I really need to get on that road mid-day Sunday. Kanye is my ace in the hole.

I don't think KoL will cancel because Coachella wouldn't have announced it. Remember that Prince was recovering from surgery in 2008 so they left him off the bill altogether so they could be "sure". I don't see why they wouldn't just wait with KoL since this injury happened earlier than the announcement.

But, as someone said earlier, if they did cancel, they could add many different people. If you are not mad about using a headliner for a third time, Tool and RHCP will be touring at the time. Also, U2 will be in CA around that time. I think any of those bands could be added. For my own self I'd like it to be Tool.

http://www.themusicnetwork.com/music-news/live/2011/01/31/bum-wing-forces-kings-of-leon-to-postpone-tour/

That would give him 60+days to heal before the fest. Maybe Coach is their 1st gig back?

Yea I posted up the APC date for summer I knew about elsewhere here. Would be nice to see them add to Coachella but I doubt it. And certainly not as a headliner. I am perfectly fine for all Maynard's touring to halt if it'll get Tool back into the studio long enough to finish the 10k Days follow up.

Kanye may be fixed upon closing the festival. Plus possible guests may not be available that day.

Kanye is not switching days. If KOL cancels GV will bring in someone else. And anyway, I still think there will be a late add along the lines of previous adds like Madonna, Daft Punk or Prince. Maybe a longer set from the "artist to be named later" could be expanded to make up for no KOL.

"Kings Of Leon tour postponed due to injury

An injury to drummer Nathan Followill has forced the Kings Of Leon to postpone their upcoming Australian tour in March.

The change in plans has come about after Followill tore his right labrum and bicep. A statement issued by the Frontier Touring Company says:

Doctors have advised that at least three months will be required for Nathan to recover post surgery to ensure the injury doesn't reoccur.

The injury has, at this stage, led to the postponement of Australian and South African tour dates for Kings Of Leon.

Nathan said of the postponement, "Sorry to all the fans in Australia and South Africa. My bum wing needs more time to heal but we'll be back later this year. Sorry again".

A new itinerary is currently being secured for November in Australia and will be advised to fans this week. Ticket holders should hold on to their tickets until further notice.

Keep an eye on the gig guide for more details on the rescheduled dates."

If they were going to get a fill in drummer for this show why not just get it for the whole tour and not even announce it as I am sure most people wouldn't even know the difference.

And even if they are expected to still play coachella his arm could have some sort of setback or take longer to heal.

as happy as i would be if this came true....
they are prolly not going to cancel. coachella is way more money than some random tour date. even if they had to get a fill in drummer, i'm sure those assholes will show up.

They are probably making more money on every single 2011 Euro date than their Coachella payday.

Surgery Forces Tour Changes For Kings Of Leon

Posted on Monday January 31, 2011 at 10:01 AM

There’s sad news for Kings Of Leon fans as surgery forces the band to postpone tours scheduled for March and June.

The sudden change of plans is to allow drummer Nathan Followill time to recuperate from undergoing the knife for a torn right labrum and bicep. Doctors estimate it will take up to three months of rest before he can return to keeping the beat.

Affected are March tours of Australia and South Africa as well as the band’s United Kingdom run in June.

Nathan Followill of Kings Of LeonThe Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, Mich.
September 22, 2009

The promoter for the Australian tour – Frontier Touring – released a statement saying the band was postponing dates from “March through November” and that shows Downunder will be rescheduled for November. Meanwhile, Nathan Followill put out the word via Twitter.

“Sorry to all the fans in Australia and South Africa,” Followill tweeted. “My bum wing needs more time to heal but we’ll be back later this year. Sorry again.”

So far, there’s been no word as to whether the group will make its Coachella appearance scheduled for April 15. For more info, click here for the Kings Of Leon website.

Update: The tour promoters, Frontier Touring, have issued a statement to confirm that “the Kings Of Leon tour has been postponed from March 2011 to November 2011 to allow drummer Nathan Followill to recover from surgery for a torn right labia and bicep”. Doctors have advised that at least three months will be required for Nathan to recover post surgery to ensure the injury doesn’t reoccur.

Ticket-holders should hold onto their tickets until further details are released. A new itinerary is currently being worked up for November and more news will be announced later this week.

They ARE playing coachella. But i have to admit...if they cut/faded them out of the poster it would be CRAZY all up in here until they add someone else.

Wasn't there an Ozzfest year like that where Ozzy got injured and the tour continued as is?

For this particular situation, having a spokesperson say "at least 3 months" and "plying coachella" are sending mixed signals.

Playing Coachella means the drummer is not following doctor orders and that means insurance wouldn't cover some very large Euro dates if he gets re-injured. There's 8-10 shows in Europe, minus a rescheduled O2 show, where they have a bigger pay day than 'Chella. Also, starting in Europe gives him 4 months recovery, while 'Chella is a tiny bit more than 2 months.

This would make the recovery time even less.
