So, my ancient blender is dying and I need a new one. I thought I should invest in something that works a bit better than the Made in China cheap brands.
I have narrowed it down to 2, which are fairly similar in price and function.
Help me decide?
Vitamix 5200 (https://secure.vitamix.com/acb/stores/4/product1.aspx?Product_ID=2332&Tab=Specifications)
Waring MX1200XT (http://www.theblenderplace.com/waring-mx1200xt-mx1200xtp-mx12000xts.htm)
I guess the Vitamix has more features, but the Waring has more power.

Goodwill stores, cheap blenders for 10 bucks. Replace as needed, fuck having to pay 500$ for a fucking blender.

Or hit up Wal Mart or Target for a new one for as low as $15 if they have any on sale.

Cool link.
The Blendec is the other high performance blender that I was considering.
I need something that can blend just about anything. Not only smoothies, but grinding seeds, nuts, soups, dried fruits, etc. (Not an iPad!)
--I've always bought the cheaper models, but I'm finding that I need something better. The cheap blenders have problems-they often leak, the motors can overheat, and they just can't do everything.
But, it's a lot of money and I'm very indecisive.

Cheap blenders do suck, and yes they all leak. I remember when I made that cooking with menik milkshake episode...what you didn't see was the blender leaked fucking everywhere, it was a HUGE mess, really sucked. While I do think 400-500 bucks is insane to spend on a blender for the house, you will probably be far happier with it than the $30 model from Target.

I hate how cheap blenders smell like burning plastic when you try to blend ice in them... Just my experience from the shitty blender I have, I dig how you can make hot fresh soup in the vitamix without heating it on the stove, the blender's blades heat it for you...

A good blender will last you a really really long time.
Also, the ones with the dispensers rock.

My chef friends have Vitamixes. Take that for whatever it is worth.
