View Full Version : Rarest Act in 2011

Obviously Coachella rocks because we get shows that no one else has ever had before, and sometimes no one ever gets again. It is hard to figure out which of these acts never tour, or rarely tour, or havent toured in years. How many shows has Gayngs played? Or Duck Sauce?

Obviously DFA1979 and Ms. Lauryn Hill are extremely rare.

What else you got?

Caifanes and Suede. Lauren Hill played at the Smoke Out last year....

As far as acts touring the U.S., I would think that leftfield is an incredibly rare act. In fact, I don't think I can remember a time in which they toured the US. I think they had a UK festival tour last year.

OH...and, I wonder when the last time the Aquabats did anything...may be they have resorted to state fairs and the like, which is why I haven't even heard their name since the late 90s...although, I have admit that I am looking forward to seeing Powered Milk Man!!!

One Day As A Lion has only played 2 American shows ever. Both of those were in tiny clubs in so cal. They've actually only played 6 gigs total.

He hasn't played the states in about six years so he's rare over here. He isn't so rare outside of North America.

I though it was 3 US shows. I was at Aladdin Jr's for the very first show and that was retarded. It was like the back room of a dinner that should have only held like 60 people but there were probably 100 in there with no AC on a 100+ degree day. The next show at the Eagle Rock center was less jammed but they ended up cutting a few songs from their list.

Coachella will be Big Audio Dynamite's first US gig since 1995. And first with the original lineup since the mid-80s.

The Aquabats play San Diego/Pomona/LA literally every year. They only do full US tours when they have a new album out though.

Also they are almost definitely not playing Powdered Milk Man.

To be fair, I know Lauryn Hill is touring right now so she's not super rare, although it might be limited dates. So far the reviews have been mixed...don't expect Sly Stone, but don't expect much more than that either. I'll probably check her out if there are no conflicts, but the word on the street is that if she is a conflict with somebody else you want to see, go see them instead. She comes late (surprise...) and speeds up a lot of hits until they are unrecognizable.

Aside from what's been said...

Kanye: hasn't played a full "show" in a couple of years.
PJ Harvey: Hasn't toured since 2009.
Lightning Bolt: rarely tour, especially not SoCal.
Jack's Mannequin: the singer's been focusing on that OTHER shitty band.
Mount Kimbie: they've only toured the U.S. once briefly.
Lil' B: #rare as fuck.

I saw the Aquabats earlier this month. They still tour plenty. They just finished a big co-headlining tour with Reel Big Fish

Plus, as of right now, the only US gig scheduled. Every other show is overseas.

Wire has to be ultra rare, right?

Lauryn played Harmony Fest last year though... She's been doing some shows sporatically. Some are saying the reaarangement of her sngs make them unrecognizeable and at harmony fest she was a bit of a diva and kept complaining about the sound but I thought she was flawless.

Wire did a national tour a couple years ago and do a run of US dates before Chella.

How often have the Chem Bros done the full live show in North America in recent years?

Chem Bros also headlined at the Hollywood Bowl late summer '10. That was such a good show. Literally everyone at the Bowl was dancing their ass off. Can't wait for this set on Friday and am really stoked that they will be playing opposite of KOL...

Hadn't noticed that Wire never really disappeared. When was the last PJ Harvey tour in NA?

I would very much like to see a source on that.

I'm not saying I don't believe you... but yes I am.

It's not a credible source. But someone posted last week about some twitter back and forth where he asked one of the DFA guys if he could give him a heads up if they're gonna tour after Coachella and he responded "heads up."

Which is about as uncredible of a source as there is, but whatev. Gives me a tad more hope than none at all.
