I think Fiona Apple is very underated and she should be added to the line up
DAmien Rice opened for her last year .SHe might not like doing festivas though so .. blah.her last cd is amazing. I would ask her to play and she puts on a very energetic show.

i've been requesting Fiona for the past couple of years. She's too good to be left out of Coachella for much longer, so here's to Fiona/Portishead in 08!

She's a total whack job and very very hit or miss live. I saw her about a year ago in Phoenix and the sound was awful and it looks alot like she's convulsing for 2 hours.

I love the albums but her performance was weak.

Yeah, I love her too. I thought she'd be added after the early version of Extraordinary Machine leaked, and then I thought she'd be added after the final version came out, and now I don't think she'll ever play. I figure she's too temperamental to handle a festival crowd, though she's apparently calmed down.

i loooooooooove fiona. i had a fiona apple corner in my room in high school:

http://ivy.aholic.us/gallery/albums/oldies/high_school_bedroom_fiona_corner.sized.jpg

i saw her tour last summer and it was good, but she's been doing something weird with her voice (at least live) that i wish she'd stop doing. she was also at my first concert, the lilith fair '97!

Aren't they usually unannounced, though, or announced just at the last minute? It doesn't help me out with living in Arizona. A show in California announced months/weeks in advance, I can plan for.

Pretty much a week or so is what they give folks, sign up for the Largo newsletter, usually hte letter is sent out early in the week and sells out instantly. The Largo is a very intimate venue.

Several friends of mine have gone several times to see her, that's how gravy it is.

Gotcha, thanks. Thanks for the tip on signing up for the Largo newsletter, though I still doubt I'd be able to swing a trip that quickly.

Going to see her at the P4K showcase during SXSW. It's at that church, so it should be pretty legit.

My roommate saw her at Largo a few months ago and said it was fantastic, in case anyone is wondering.

RageAgainstTheAoki
04-15-2012, 10:27 AM
Sure is. Tried for an hour and then headed to StubHub. The scalpers must've been born in the 90s and had no idea who Fiona was because there were some reasonable deals on there. Don't think they quite anticipated this demand. Got 3 tickets for $70 ea. Not bad. Do you know how much the TicketMaster tix were with fees included?

chairmenmeow47
04-15-2012, 09:58 PM
tickets were $66 each. we're sitting in the balcony. i am such a tard and kept refreshing fiona's homepage, only to realize the presale was on another site that was very hard for me to find. thankfully i got tickets, but they would have been better if i would have been on the right site.

i think rick is going, not captn crazy. either way, i would love to meet up with people before the show, so long as rick and edward are interested :)

RageAgainstTheAoki

If you ignore the $20 in StubHub fees, I essentially paid a 6% markup. Wow. That has to be the lowest markup I've ever paid on secondary market tickets. So excited to see her. As for meetups, I'll be visiting friends in the Bay Area for a long weekend, so I'll be at the mercy of their schedules. Put me down as a maybe.

Yeah, I'm the one attending, not Jen. Forgot that she was the one logged in when I checked the board yesterday. She'll be in tow, though, and Rage, if any of your friends are wanting to hang out but won't be going to the show, they can hang out & drink beers with her while we're enjoying Fiona.

Just finished listening to/ripping the stream. I like it a lot. But mainly, I've been thinking that this album doesn't have the GRANDNESS of her other albums. It's so much more intimate. It sounds like you're in the room with her. The sound of this album pulls you right to where she is instead of transporting you to some other place.
The same can be said about the lyrics. Everything seems pretty straight forward.
I don't know that I've felt like I was as much in Fiona's workspace as I do with this one. But so far, I really like what I'm hearing.

Goodness knows I'm still excited to see Fiona in concert, but I don't know about this album. It's a good thing it's her fourth. Were it her first, I think she'd probably be teaching middle school art by now and Fiona Shaw would be the most well known Fiona. I've only given it a few spins, so hopefully it gets more interesting after sitting with me for a while. That being said, Every Single Thing, Anything We Want and Hot Knife are stunners.

Kind of surprised by the lack of activity on this thread. I guess there aren't that many people who came of age in the 90s left on this board. My initial reservations on the new album aside, there are some absolutely gorgeous tracks on there. Loving the new video, too.

does anyone know where to find sheet music beside tidal? specifically i want sheet music for the piano with lyrics for "valentine", but "i'll know" would also be nice. ideally i'd like her whole collection.

in the meantime, i found this from an article and it made me love her all the more <3 i want to be her dance partner!!!

“Werewolf” was really an important song for me because it was admitting, “Yeah, all the anger that I had toward you was justified, and you are an asshole, but I was a great dance partner, and I brought a lot of that out of you.”
