Which band on the lineup is right in the middle? The most average? 50th percentile? Not great, not bad? Are you following me? I didn't think so.

Maybe everyone should just assign numerical rankings to the artists, 1 to 173 (or whatever). Then we can compile the results and do statistical analyses. wouldn't that be fun?

Wow, new record for messing up the word "they're" the most in one sentence.
And, Cold War Kids gets my vote. They're not bad, but they're not great.

Or we could have everyone list their top 20 acts theyre looking forward to seeing (20 points for #1, down to 1 for #20), and top 20 acts they definitely wont be seeing (-20 for worst, -1 twentieth worst).
Count up the points. Keep running tally. Lets doo it. Bands close to zero points = average.

My vote goes to....
The New Pornographers. Also Cold War Kids is a good answer. Seen both bands and while I enjoyed them, I doubt I'll see them again.

Winner. They're alright. Like, if you found out they were playing for free in your city you would consider going.

How the fuck are The Strokes an average band? They are one of the most influential rock bands of this decade. I dont know how you can put Cold War Kids and The Strokes on the same pedestal of success.

Its not so much a pedestal of success as it is a pedestal of sounding boring
Maybe I just haven't listened to the right Strokes songs yet, but that was my first impression
Then again, rock music isn't my thing, so don't get too offended...

I, personally, put Cold War Kids above The Strokes. The Strokes are enjoyable but I can't do more than like 5 songs in a row whereas I've listened to Robbers & Cowards and their EPs all the way through multiple times and still go back. The latest two albums, that never happened. So basically, balancing out CWK on the whole I put them at average.
The Strokes on the other hand. I don't see where they're one of the most influential rock bands of the decade. They have chart topping hits but aren't a key inspiration to pretty much any bands. Nothing about them is new or original. They're just entertaining and know how to write some good songs every here and there. Average. I'm not saying CWK are super influential and shit but they definitely started out with a signature, soulful style that doesn't come about too often these days.
Success-wise? The Strokes beat CWK. Success doesn't reflect talent 99% of the time.

Out of those mentioned so far on this thread, I've seen Mumford and Sons, New Pornos, Best Coast, Cage the Elephant and the Strokes.
Of them all, I would say the most average was Mumford and Sons. Closely followed by the New Pornos, and my personal add, The Morning Benders.
I liked Best Coast. Bethany was pretty funny, and their set was solid. Cage the Elephant, as much as I hate their albums, put on a good show. Very lively and funny. Maybe it was just because it was the last show on their Silversun Pickups/Cage tour in 09, but I enjoyed it.
As much as I'm indifferent about the Strokes, they put on a solid set at Lolla. They are at least above average. If you like their music, you'll love them live.
I pray to god Animal Collective and Arcade Fire don't suck live. I love them both, but haven't gotten to see them live.
I don't give a shit about KoL or Kanye. I don't like their music either way.
As for Neon Trees, I think we can all agree they aren't average. They're shit.

For me, Strokes. But in a good way. They are consistent at least and I can always count on them not to suck.

What the fuck are you talking about? The strokes are 100% derivative of things past, they are basically a throwback band; how are they capable of being influential to anything?

Nope, you had me fooled. I have a list of "worth one watch" bands. I'm always glad when I'm warned not to throw my chance away to see a really good act, only to see one I hoped would be good, but was just, "eh."
I'm looking at you Sleigh Bells.
