I have a pass and a group I'm going with. But I feel so out of touch. I don't know most of the bands playing. What do you guys suggest checking out?

Here are the only currently playing bands I know and like:

The Black Keys
Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (of Mars Volta)
Gogol Bordello
Cage the Elephant
Lightning Bolt
Sleigh Bells
Ratatat

That's it.Yes, I know the big headliners like Duran Duran, Interpol, Kings of leon, Broken Social Scene, the national, strokes but I'm not a big fan of them. But there's still like 50+ bands I've never heard of.

Here's some other currently recording bands I like, including some that were at previous years(but not at Coachella this year):

The Dead Weather
Infected Mushroom
Them Crooked Vultures
Coheed and Cambria
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Sigur Ros
Tool
Pelican
Dredg
The Mars Volta
Phish
A Place to Bury Strangers
Silversun Pickups
Umphrey's McGee
Baroness
Mastodon
Dillinger Escape Plan
Primus

What kind of stuff might I like this year? As you can tell, I'm mostly into post rock, metal, bluesy garage rock, jam bands, and trance.

Pj Harvey has become the festival for me now, she reminds me of Tom Waits.

Not really in vocal styling, but her discography builds upon each album while simultaneously sounding nothing quite like it. It's really great stuff.

I'd suggest Rid of Me since you like heavier bands, but To Bring You My Love is my current favorite.

Don't ask us...go to the event info tab, then "about artists" and do your research....it's fun to "discover" tons of stuff that you're unfamiliar with

if you like cage the elephant / "bluesy garage rock", you could like tame impala, delta spirit and trampled by turtles; maybe cold war kids.
