I just checked and it said "unavailable." Is this the same as sold out? This is crazy! Stagecoach also sold its camp sites very fast, so it is possible to be sold out already.

it won't be long now before the tickets sell out too. this is why some artists limit the number of tickets you can buy & the number of times you can use the same credit card to buy tickets to the same event. I'm no Garth Brooks fan, but every year here in Vegas, only the person whose name matches the credit card is allowed to pick up the tickets from the ticket booth AND you can't pick up the tickets until the day of the show.

But it confuses me when the site says something like this

"Campers will only be allowed to purchase ONE additional companion parking pass (while supplies last) per Car Camping pass purchased. "

ohhh i think i answered my own question...

If worse comes to terrible can I sleep in my SUV in the Companion Lot???

I don't think scalpers are responsible for the camping selling out so fast. It is US...all of us who want to go to Coachella. I bought 2 camping passes for myself and our 6 friends that are coming from Australia and 2 for my daughters because they could not afford it today and now it seems that since I bought all 4 of them in my name I may loose them all! I am sorry but that just seems very unfair. I seriously did not realize that this was against the rules and I have been planning this for months. I looked at all the rules and really did not see anywhere on the board or faqs that you could only purchase 2. We were all so happy we got the 4 camping tickets but now it seems that we may not have any at all:-(

Actual concert tickets won't be far behind....I am with Dani on this one....they won't last a month and I wonder if they will last a week?

It's great you got camping passes for you and everyone else.

There are definitely a lot of scalpers who bought the tickets. They'll be all over ebay, stubhub etc shortly.

I didn't want to buy one from ebay in case the person selling lost their ticket. If your heart is set on camping then you should try to buy it from a more legit source.

shoegazer76
01-21-2011, 10:55 PM
I had 2 extra passes last year but no extra camping. I offered both for sale on ebay for $275 each. Passes sold out about 3 hrs after I listed them. I was kicking myself for not waiting. I could've banked about $450 on each pass! I even offered a camping spot on my lawn at no charge cause I was sleeping in my Subie. The one woman took me up on the camping offer and asked if her friend could crash also. I agreed. Result was meeting 2 attractive young women & gaining 2 new friends which to me is more valuable than the money I would've made. Wise man once said....

well, I bought a pass on stubhub for $318 after fees and the seller confirmed it. I'm still holding all hope to pick one up if I can during the dupe dumps on ticketmaster or the layaway site so that I can dump this expensive pass but at least I have piece of mind that I will be camping at coachella.

to make myself feel a little better I convinced myself that the $318 isn't any more that when I used to use my time share and I get the added perk of being with all you lovely people at the same time.

I just went sniffing around the City of Indio website again. Last year, they were to sell no more than 8,000 car camping spots. This year, they were to sell no more than 8,800 car camping spots.

Doesn't say anything about tent camping.

Are there significantly less spots this year?

I think, based on that they were getting sold for 3-5x the cost last year, this year they were snapped up more quickly by both scalpers and opportunists (people hoping to sell an extra one to pay for theirs, etc).

Seriously, people just need to calm the fuck down. Prices will never be as high as they are right now. If everyone waits to buy, the prices are going to collapse as people with multiple passes get nervous that they won't sell.

There were 800 more car camping spots made available this year than last. Somebody checked the city of Indio website.

I just went sniffing around the City of Indio website again. Last year, they were to sell no more than 8,000 car camping spots. This year, they were to sell no more than 8,800 car camping spots.

Doesn't say anything about tent camping.

I just had a panic moment because I'm planning on renting a car and driving in this year. I realized I've never had to even think about day parking.

Not that I believe I read on Craigslist, BUT there's no truth to the post someone just put up saying that camping passes are non-transferable, is there?

I'm asking because, although I have one, I'm not 100% certain I'll be able to go...

I realize a lot of professional scalpers [a-holes] bought up tons of camping passes this year; the message was warning people to not buy them from online sellers because they were going to be invalidated...

???

I dont see how they would be non transferrable. Even if you got one on layaway, they would have to state that when you make your purchase. The ticketmaster listing would have to specify on the main buy page before you even tried to buy that its non transferrable. So no, no truth to it.

The reason camping tickets might be invalidated was not because they are non-transferable, but because only 2 per address were going to be allowed. If a scalper bought 10 on one credit card or even 5 cards going to the same address, 8 of their tickets should be canceled by Ticketmaster. If you bought one of those, you could be screwed, as scalpers would not have the inventory they thought they were going to have.

i think coachella should do what henry miller library did to people trying to scalp ARCADE Fire tickets by working iwth ebay and cancelling the auctions and the original order for tickets.

a.) scalping is legal in California
b.) GV never said you could not transfer tickets

thus it is hard to stop something that is 100% legal.

The BEST GV could do is to cancel ALL orders place by people who went over the limit. Ie if you bought 4 camping passes you would lose all four.

question:

how hard would it be for GV to contact the purchasers before the scheduled shipping date, say via email. Asking to please confirm the shipping address and the names associated w/ the passes....?? then they would be electronicaly associated w/ the wristband and upon entry would have to show id.

Have you ever managed an event? If they made it a requirement to respond to an email to get your camping passes, they would get nowhere near a 100% response rate of the people who grabbed 'em fair & square.

If they withheld passes based on response, they would get peppered with complaints, lawsuits, refund requests... basically all the stuff that the staff are paid to avoid. You are also making some magical assumptions in regards to the capabilities of the wristband.

It's all or nothing. GV must institute a glasto-style photo registration system if they want to foil the scalpers.

yes i have managed an event.... and no its not that far out of the question. Emails are already going out to confirm shipping addresses, im not sure why over the course of two months u couldnt reply to an email in an effort to assure your entrance to the festival.

seems like an email id deff keep an eye out for, especially if i knew the program itself would eliminate all this bullshit.

and for those that didnt respond, well i guess your SOL.
