Swim was the best album of 2010 and the he should have been in the line up this year.

I 150% agree, I was surprised not to see him. Nosaj Thing will be similiar though. Where is Sleepy Sun?

I love their album and their live set... saw them back in September at a little club in Urbana, IL. I met Dan after the show and he signed my Andorra and Swim LPs. Made my month.

Seriously, one of the nicest guys I've ever freakin' met.

I was really hoping to get a chance to see Dan and the crew play again, but it looks like they might be doing international shows for a while.

Regardless, I highly recommend seeing them play...

Yeah I was really hoping to see Caribou, Bear in Heaven or even Hercules and Love Affair this lineup. I missed Caribou in Dallas half a year ago and have regretted it ever since.

Nosaj Thing is nothing similar to Caribou. Nosaj experimental trip hop closer to Flying Lotus's style.

I'd be very surprised too. He's working man. New album. He's touring. Goldenvoice promoted him for a few gigs. All signs point to Coachella Next year.

He is playing 2 nights in L.A. in February. I highly doubt he is at Coachella.

Which one date is sold out and the other is about to. So I recommend buying a ticket this time if you are trying to see Caribou.

The February shows are supposed to make up for barely anyone getting to see him at FYF.

I still think he'll be at Coachella, and they'll probably double-up with a Daphni set in Yuma.

geo-god

Yeah that's what i was thinking. I got my ticket for his first show in LA. I just think it would be cool to see him on the Coachella bill.

You say that as it it was a one-off, but it's not, it's part of a tour. FYF might be presenting it the way you are saying, but it's not true. He is on tour consistently through mid-November, then taking a month off, then touring all of Februrary and half of March. My speculation would be that his touring cycle would be done by Coachella.

Third Fonda show added. You'd think he would just start booking at bigger venues at this point. Still hoping somehow he shows up at Coachella.

I like your optimism. Watching the Pitchfork Paris stream has me hoping for the same.

Technically, Caribou could possibly be playing Friday this year, even if that's 9 straight dates in a row. Wishful thinking.

I don't understand how Caribou playing 3 nights in a row in L.A. 2 months before the festival doesn't dissuade people from thinking he is going to be at Coachella.

captncrzy
12-17-2014, 10:53 AM
That coupled with the tour dates.

It makes sense now that i'm looking at his tour dates. Makes no sense for him to be flying back and forth like that. Caribou would of been really nice though.

guedita
12-17-2014, 11:16 AM
My dumb optimism is grounded on the following illogical ideas:

- In my mind, the LA dates are, per Sean Carlson's promise, a make-up of sorts for the FYF debacle, since Caribou was right after Todd Terje and tons of people had given up trying to get into the arena or just weren't allowed in after they re-hit capacity
- Dan Snaith said at a show: "I can't say, but Coachella is a good festival to go to"
- The announcement of their midwest/Calgary dates yesterday say that they know fans there have been asking them to tour for a while and they're happy they finally were able to make it happen, which suggests that they may have used the week long break in between each weekend to hobble this tour together because YOLO
- I want him there?

Drinkey McDrinkerstein
12-17-2014, 12:18 PM
The L.A. dates are in the middle of an already existing long tour though, so whatever bullshit Sean from FYF might say about it being a "make-up" seems like nonsense to me.

guedita
12-17-2014, 12:22 PM
He said right after FYF that they were working to bring him back in 2015, and at that point no tour dates had been announced.

one show in the midst of a tour? not a make up.

three shows? possibly a make up.

It's true, he does say a lot of things.

guedita
12-17-2014, 12:42 PM
I stand corrected, Sean didn't claim they were 'working' to bring him back: on 8/27 I posted this:

I just saw per the FYF facebook page that they are bringing Angel Olsen back to LA in December and Caribou back to LA in February.

Drinkey McDrinkerstein

Hey, if he ends up on the Coachella line up, I will concede that I was wrong, but I still believe that these Fonda dates and this tour means he will not be there.

guedita
12-17-2014, 12:45 PM
I believe Caribou will be on the lineup as strongly as ragepatton believed that Rodriguez would be on the outdoor or mainstage because he had been selling out shows and was so incredibly huge and popular that everyone at the festival would be there to see him.

Which is to say, ludicrously.

Completely didn't see those LA dates. Fucking hell. Sorry folks, didn't mean to get anyone's hopes up.

Ha. To be fair, the tent WAS packed... When his set started anyways. Then he forgot the words and was playing out of time with the band and there were sound issues and the place emptied out. I still think the Gobi was the wrong place for him, but that is neither here nor there.

So why exactly does the fact that it is based around a repetitive lyric make it dumb or bad? Do you listen to music purely for the sake of lyrical content? A lot of people don't.

Instrument based rock music has never been built around concise, repetitive lyrics.
