Really excited to see these guys on the Polo Fields. One of the most unique sounding bands going right now.

Ah, Chris, you were supposed to go to that El Rey show weren't you?

Extremely great live band. Extremely great albums. A must see for sure.

I saw them at Sunset Junction '08 and really dug them. Glad to have an opportunity to see them again. And have an excuse to get this Mines album that everyone is saying is nice to listen to.

His solo act as Ramona Falls was pretty decent. Unfortunately, I like Ramona's music a lot more than Meno's.

So I just discovered this band through the lineup, researched what album to check out and headed to my local record store to buy Friend and Foe. This band has become a must-see after just two listens, so excited for them!

Awesome. I've had that happen in the past, it's a really great feeling.

I was a lot more excited before I found out their most talented member quit the band. Glad I caught that El Rey show.

Brent Knopf, their keyboard player/multi-instrumentalist/sometimes lead singer quit the band to focus on his new music project, Ramona Falls. He's the lead singer and primary songwriter on most of my favorite Menomena songs, and he won't be easily replaced imo (Menomena have replaced him for this tour.) Menomena are in a better position than most groups to continue as a band after his departure since they switch up the singing so much, but it will make me sad to see Evil Bee or Rotten Hell sang by some guy that had nothing to do with those songs at all. I'll also be really curious to hear Menomena's first album without Knopf, because if Ramona Falls first album is any indication, he is by far the best songwriter of the group.

Definitely check out "mines" as well. That cd is right there with Friend and foe. They were great at the el Rey. I will not miss them. Hoping for an early slot in the mojave. Btw, the drummer is amazing live!!

You can download their daytrotter sesssion for free here: http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/menomena-concert/20040432-110814.html

The version of Killemall is better there.

They'll play during a pretty dj/electro heavy sunday so they'll probably be something i will be keeping an eye on.

I kept thinking the singer sounded a lot like the singer form Ramona Falls.

Portland representin' in this b!

Should be interesting to see the band now that Brent has parted ways.

I always enjoyed this quote (http://pitchfork.com/news/41294-echo-chamber-menomena/) from their drummer Danny Seim about Brent's departure:

We lost a major creative force in Brent, but thankfully, Brent's not Kurt Cobain, and we're not Nirvana. Brent's more like Peter Gabriel and we're more like Genesis. And everyone knows how much better Genesis got after that talentless hack Gabriel quit. Waitaminute…

I keep forgetting they're playing somehow, despite the fact that Mines was one of my favorite albums last year. Their show at the El Rey in August was incredible.

Been wanting to see them for years. Mines and Friend & Foe are criminally underrated.

Yes, I also really love Under An Hour...I'd love to see them do that in its entirety some time.

that's a bummer about the singer but still very happy about this band. kinda worried about conflicts though, seems like they may be up against phantogram or something.

What songs besides Evil Bee and Rotten Hell can we expect them to either NOT play or play with a different lead singer because Brent Knopf was the lead on?

I'm really hoping to hear Killemall, Dirty Cartoons, Muscle'n Flo, Sleeping Beauty, Five Little Rooms. Were any of those Brent-led songs?

Who sings lead on Dirty Cartoons?

Such a bummer. Evil Bee just now came up on iTunes and it's such a great song.

Who else caught this early in the morning? It was one of my favorite sets of the festival. TAOS was monstrous as a closing song.
