They'll have their new album "Angles" out by then

I'm personally stoked

Gonna see them in Vegas to

What's your reaction to them headlining?

Do you think Angles will rebirth rock and roll like Is This It?

I heard it's coming out March 22. Plenty of time to party the hell out of it before Coachella. I read somewhere that Nikolai said sonically it's the album they should have made between Room on Fire and First Impressions of Earth.

Not sure what that means exactly, but I don't think the Strokes are anything like the Kings of Leon. They never let fame get to their heads and this new album is going to deliver. You could make an argument that each of their albums improves upon its predecessor. Big shoes to fill, but we shall see.

Yeah, i got to see them at outsidelands and they put on a show.

Side note, i really was reading it as angels for the past two days. I'm really glad its called angles, cuz angels sounded kinda lame to me.

Depends on how you look at it. You want more gritty rock and roll, then Is This It and Room on Fire is it. You want more of an experimental album then listen to FIOE.

I love all three

Ten years ago they were my absolute favorite band. I've only seen them a couple times, and haven't even seen a proper headlining gig of theirs in the past decade. I'm really excited for them. Just hoping it doesn't conflict with Kanye at all.

01-19-2011, 06:25 PM
Um, you mean the other way around?

It's hard to say Is This It is their worst album. That's basically what it sounds like by saying each album improved on its predecessor. It was groundbreaking and I still listen to it regularly to this day. I'm just saying you could make the argument that they upped their game on each release.

I love all 3 albums and feel like Room On Fire got shit upon on its release. But looking back 8 years later, it's pretty fuckin legit and holds up really well. Same with First Impressions of Earth. They still have yet to make a bad song.

My friend who claims the Strokes are his favorite band ever also claims that Room On Fire is their best album. I think if someone told me any of the 3 were their best I'd agree with them in some ways.

I'm happy they never pulled a KOL and started making ballads. I saw KOL open for the Strokes during the Room on Fire tour and would have never guessed they'd be played on KISS FM and adored by 16 year old girls, or that someday they'd be headlining Coachella while The Strokes were a sub-headliner.

New York City Cops (this song got me hooked)
Meet Me in the Bathroom
Fear of Sleep

Found a NME article (http://www.nme.com/news/the-strokes/54618) about the album

Hammond Jr said that, after the album was out, he was hoping the band wouldn't wait another five years before releasing their next effort. "We want to release albums quicker," he explained.

The record's lead single is likely to be named 'Under Cover Of Darkness'.

The band gave the album information to Rolling Stone magazine, also revealing further song titles 'Taken For A Fool', 'Life Is Simple', 'Machu Picchu', 'Radio Minor Madness' and 'Call Me Back'.

Dear Strokes,

Please put in a good effort in your set at Coachella. Ive heard plenty of comments on how you guys only play for about 50 minutes. Given that you're co headlining the festival on Sunday, you must deliver. You guys have plenty of hits and with a new album coming out, playing at least 1.5 hours isn't too much to ask. Show you're worthy of the headliner spot.

Julian has said publicly that they didn't feel right playing longer without new material. He said they'd rather play a great 55 minute set than have a few lackluster songs added to stretch the set out. He also said once the new material is done (before Coachella) they would be playing longer. There is nothing to worry about.

Lol, Why you mad bro?

I meant to quote that post. My bad. I made a mistake. It happens. Chill out bro. Not trying to take a sense of entitlement, but I started this thread for people who like The Strokes. And until you came along, everyone else has been pretty rad.

Nah, meth is wack. Bakersfield is meth capital but it is mostly done in the north east part of town called Oildale.

i apologize, i'm still bitter i payed $60 for their pre-ACL show and got the same 55 minute setlist

This makes me happy. I'd much prefer a tight, even if it's short, 10 song album of solid tunes than one that has a bunch of filler that is 14 songs long.

Julian has said publicly that they didn't feel right playing longer without new material. He said they'd rather play a great 55 minute set than have a few lackluster songs added to stretch the set out. He also said once the new material is done (before Coachella) they would be playing longer. There is nothing to worry about.

I saw them play 55mins when still touring the first album. Even the 3rd album shows were still around an hour. Plus some of the festival slots, like Lolla were advertised as 90 minutes.

The lead single from the first new Strokes record in five years barrels into the bar with "Return to Form" written on its forehead. "Under Cover of Darkness" (set to be released February 9th on the band's website) takes the basic elements of their sound, breaks it down, builds it back up and expands it: the skinny-tie boogie bounce of "Last Nite," wave after wave of cute and sharp interlocking guitar, and a grand, gaping chorus where Julian Casablancas torments his vowels like he's got them trapped in his secret basement laboratory. The band members even throw in tricky tempo changes and a weird, slow breakdown just to show us they've been woodshedding. "I've been all around this town/Everybody's been singing the same song for 10 years," Casablancas observes. So the Strokes give us that same old song one more time, primed and polished for a new age.

Can't wait to hear it!!

Two of my hommies rapping about the Strokes.

Ayo I’m barely legal, on the blocks running with my people./
Hard to explain, but I slay cats for a fee, yo.//
But damn, last night is when I determined what I liked/
Picked uppa mic, juice box ya’, and see ya’ on the other side//
But yeah I spit right, got the tongue of a reptillia/
...Killing ya, and then even in ya afterlife, I’ll be billing ya//
Cause it only took 15 minutes for you to feel the heat/
Electricityscape, you talked your beef, and met me in the street//
I said we’ll settle this; it’ll go down at 12:51/
I had ya thinking to God, ‘Is this it? Am I finally done?’//
But between love and hate, just wait, someday you can step to me/
But first you’d have to ask me a question? Ask me anything//
I’ll get your girl at her knees, if you go and try to front/
She’ll taste my soma, saying ‘I’ll try anything once..’//

Yo aye yo im killin lies, so that means i'll see you on the other side//
fuck around wita Razorblade leave yo ass outside//
you pussys in a cat fight//
put your shit on Automatic Stop like a Red Light//
listen, i'll fuck around and shoot three at you cunts//
dont get too cocky kid remember that you only live once//
maybe you'll be able to step to this Someday//

This is the way you hype a single premiere! I remember Zane Lowe played The Strokes during his Coachella set a few years ago. Everyone went crazy!!
