are they going to be djing or playing the songs live?

SoulDischarge

The videos I've seen have been live. I don't think they're a DJ type act exactly.

Friday is going to be so weird and diverse and unique.

I might be wrong, but I think when they're billed as the Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble it's a bunch of people using all the real instruments to make the songs live, but when it's billed as Brandt Brauer Frick it's just the three of them using a mix of synths and instruments. Still, yeah, it won't be a set of them spinning other people's records or anything.

I stumbled on some videos of them in another thread, and i am SO happy. They are now on my MUST see list, what an amazing group! I'm in love with their album, this is so unique. Would love to see the full ensemble some day.

Just started my research today and yes on this. I don't know, all the youtubes seem to have them with the full ensemble though.

Either way, they don't 'spin' other peoples songs. You are correct in the first sentence of your post.

It's just that...if it's just the three of them spinning or playing synths or whatever, it's really not that cool. Maybe still worth watching over Brandon Flowers, but not like those videos up top.

Asked on facebook whether they would be performing at coachella as a trio or with the ensemble, the response given was "surprise, surprise ...". Make of that what you will.

Either way, I'm pumped for this act. This music is really best suited for small, dark rooms in the wee hours but I fear a very early sahara slot - oh well.

I made it over after Tokimonsta and half of 12th Planet and a few minutes of Black Joe Lewis.

While the BBF guys didn't disappoint, they also didn't blow me away. I guess that's ok for a 2:05pm set.

They were amazing at the Soda Bar last night, despite it being kind of a dive venue, didn't realize that until I got there, I'm pissed I didn't see them at Coachella, I'm sure they sounded amazing there. It's wonderful to watch these guys play, it was a little bizarre to hang out with them before and after the show at first, they were just hanging out at the bar. Only me and handful of people actually talked to them despite the fact that they're awesome and really down to Earth, Jan Brauer tried to use one of his drink tickets on me. Sorry to gush but it was an awesome night and they told me that they're trying to bring the ensemble act to the West Coast in a year or two...Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble 2013?

Soda Bar is pretty divey and the last time I caught a show there, the main artist refused to play due to the sound quality and lack of monitors (Ras G). Glad to hear the show was so great and I'm happy people from the board made it out! I told a few friends back home but none went for one reason or another. How many people would you say showed up?

It would be amazing to catch the ensemble!

Frick told me he was a little upset with how bad the sound was there and in the beginning of the show you could tell he was a little annoyed by it still, but they played an amazing show anyways. There were probably forty to fifty people in the bar all together.

That's unfortunate that promoters book great artists and fail to provide adequate sound. That's great they played a great set anyway.

Intimate, dark, poppin, well-received, live minimal-jazz-techno amazingness! Probably about 150 people I estimated. I recall really enjoying their Coachella set, but this show Friday night definitely exceeded it, especially given the live drumming and synth playing I can't recall as part of their Coach performance. BBFE 2013!!!

A series of unfortunate events on Friday caused me to miss the show. I had even commissioned some of my girlfriends who never go to see live music to go to this and I still haven't checked in with them to see if they made it. It's good to hear that you enjoyed the show, kuuguy.
