View Full Version : What Will This Year's Crowd Be Like?

indietron

Last year there seemed to be a ton of people who would not normally be at coachella. I ran into way too many bros who were there just to party and hear mgmt play kids. There seem to be less big-name radio acts on this year's lineup when compared to last year's. The undercard this year is just superb.

Discuss.

I really do believe its going to be just as clusterfuck as last year with the same crowd. Just look at those headliners.

I went to Buy Tickets earlier and it said that you will NOT be allowed within a square mile of festival/campgrounds/parking lots if you are not wearing or don't have your wristband on you. I checked again and that info was taken down. That may help with the overcrowding/clusterfuck that was last year.

If it wasn't for Coachella '07, I wouldn't even know who the fuck KoL are. Are they really that big of a draw? They seem like a budget saving measure to me.

The crowd KOL and Kanye will bring scares me. Arcade Fire doesn't draw a douchey crowd though. I think last year's problems were also made worse by acts like mgmt, phoenix, vampire weekend, etc. who were all getting a TON of radio play. There seems to be less of those this year.

It's not about crowd quality anymore. It's about crowd QUANTITY. I'm gonna knock out any bitch walking around without a wristband.

Coachella = MAJOR PRODUCTION + people planning their lives around that weekend

Hop a fence or make a fake wristband and you WILL get punched in the ovaries.

I'm sure most boardies share the same sentiment.

It's going to be a younger crowd, as the acts are generally younger. The acts seem a little more ethnically diverse, so hopefully we will see more than just white kids. Since I'm taking the shuttle, let the traffic jam begin!

I would agree that the crowd might be a little lighter, given that there are less mainstream /radio indie bands this year. However, I think after last year's festival, indie music became so huge that there won't be a huge decrease in attendance.

Look at the line-up man. Phoenix, MGMT, Deadmau5, Gorillaz, Muse, Jay-Z, Thom Yorke, Tiesto, Vampire Weekend etc.

Warpaint and Best Coast aren't nearly as big as any of the names he mentioned. Even at their peak.

Also, in terms of crowding and space, didn't someone post something about how the festival grounds will be larger this year because they rented some extra space or something?

Are you serious? This years crowd will SUCK! Look at the headliners: Kings of Fratland and Kanye Worst. After last years total brofest, my party of six are giving Coachella one more try. If it turns into anything like 2010, then we will find another safe haven. Deep down we all know that the Coachella we all know and love has been ruined. I'll try and have a good time this year, since I already know it will be the last time.

I'm hoping the absence of MGMT (and to a lesser extent, Phoenix) brings out fewer teenagers - at least they'll look a lot less stupid. I don't think the headliners are any less attractive to bros than Jay-Z or the Killers.

It will probably be really crowded like last year. Everybody on here just complains and complains about it, but I found a way to see everyone I wanted to just fine despite the crowd. And who cares what 'type' of people go, ignore em until they shout at you or dance into you several times, then whoop some ass.

The best crowd I ran into last year was at Lollapalooza - the huge number of Japanese girls who turned out for X Japan - a Japanese hair-metal supergroup who had never played a U.S. non-benefit show. Hundreds of Japanese girls in costumes shouting "X!" and making arm gestures... and mercifully, they left when Japan X left, opening up a ton of space for the later acts (Wolfmother, Soundgarden).

Worst were the Thom Yorke fans who started pushing up against the gate between Jonsi and Phoenix, making it an unbearable idea to stick around at the barrier all day. Grumble.

At least Phoenix and Thom Yorke were worth the trouble!

If it wasn't for Coachella '07, I wouldn't even know who the fuck KoL are. Are they really that big of a draw? They seem like a budget saving measure to me.

People who don't see a lot of live music love KoL. I was surprised at the draw they had 2 years ago at Lolla when they were opposed by Depeche. There will be people in droves for KoL who will most likely expand their tastes by going to Coachella.

I envision a large crowed of people who have never been to a fest before, but want to go because they know KoL, Arcade Fire, and the Strokes. I also see a lot of these people camping at the main stage all day on Friday and being tired/sore for the remaining 2 days.

You guys sound salty.

But in all seriousness with Cee-Lo, Badu, Ms. hill, Wiz, Lil B, Nas and Kanye I see a lot more black people. Something I thought Jay-Z would do last year compared to 09 but he didn't

Hah, you literally just named half of what I am excited to see, and I am as pale as they come. But I do agree, with Raphael Saadiq, Lauryn Hill (please let this not be the trainwreck it will most likely be), Cee-Lo and Badu there will definitely be a real chill, soulful element that will attract a wide variety of different people.

However, by Facebook status updates alone I know a ton of bros who are planning on hitting up. I think the majority went last year too though.

Uh, really? So http://www.latfh.com/ is all just fiction? CGI? That's like trying to give all the fuckheads of this generation a free pass. Decades later, hipsters are aren't going to go down well at all. They'll look like even bigger morons than hippies do to us now.

Sorry bro but if you think that the youth of this generation are somehow worse than the youth of any other generation since the beginning of time, the problem is you.

What's this BS? Use some ingenuity and lie to your professors like the rest of us!

The crowd will likely be very similar to last year with slightly less clusterfuck.

Little does the modern world know that so much culture and internet jargon has been influenced by one board member. That board member is blackswan89, he runs shit.
Btw I refuse to let other attendees ruin a great fest for me they are always welcome to make it better however

Should be quite an eclectic crown with Caifanes, and the more than usual hip hop acts.

Of course, let there be hipsters. The same assholes who claim to be disinterested in Kanye and KOL will be undoubtedly caught wandering in the crowd during their set only to be caught by their condescending hipster friends who will then simultaneously judge eachother until they spontaneously combust and like the back of a gremlin 12 other hipsters erupt forth like all of the coffee shops were crammed within a mile radius and tipped upside down

I didn't even realize those bands were played on the radio. I don't think I've turned on my car radio in years.

I could care less about what gender, sexual preference, race, or social stereotype people want to represent while at Coachella. I just hope that most of the people going are there to have a good time and leave politics, the stresses of life, and everything else in life that generally decreases happiness behind.

In short, I went last year and enjoyed the crowd. I literally never had a problem at any time with it. I didn't meet one unfriendly person, I never saw a fight, I didn't see anyone taken down and I didn't hear any arguing. Good vibes all weekend. I wouldn't mind if it was the same this year.
