Crystal Castles was the worst Coachella act I have ever seen in my +5 years of going.

Fuck them

i heard they improved their live sets... good god..... but they were so bloody awful the other times I've seen parts of their sets that they do not get a second chance from moi.

Yeah, I've heard Crystal Castles sucks live too. But you know, these Crystal Castlest guys, now THEY might have something going for them!

Looks like Crystal Castlest was bumped from the lineup. I guess they were just a little too much Castle for everyone.

Oh well.

Crystal Castles last album consisted of a guy making tunes by himself. The girl was his neighbor and he secretly recorded her when they jammed. After touring with that album and then completing a second, more inspired album, there should be a lot more direction in their live set. And yes, hopefully they play at night because the energy usually goes up which coincides with their vocalist persona. Last time was, meh...

I am really excited to see this!

I actually like their albums... but I have heard they leave something to be desired live. I'll check them out as long as they don't conflict with someone else, otherwise I'll catch them back in Chi. Gotta see everything at least once, right?

I've seen them twice. First at Coachella, which admittedly wasn't that great. The second time at BFD though was unreal. They tore that tent fucking down, the crowd was so into it.

Well, that honestly makes me feel a lot better. I'm gonna see them in March at the Riv, (gotta get my LP signed, ya know?) so if I'm impressed, I'll be back for more at their set.

That tends to happen at festivals unfortunately... Crowds just come to say they saw them, but never get into it. I've always maintained that you've never truly seen most artists until you've seen them at a small venue.

I recommend giving CC a second chance as well, provided you don't have any pressing conflicts. I've said this a few times in different threads, but CC were great at Bonnaroo '09. I think they'd benefit greatly from playing at night.

I can attest to this. I saw part of their first set at Coach 09, and I have to say it was pretty terrible, though I wanted to like the music since the album was cool... The new album is also awesome and they seem to have developed a better show now (I.E. one worth paying to see...) with improved performances (yes, even from Alice... I guess she "practiced"... :thu
They also got a cooler lightshow/better sounds (I saw them a few months ago in Oakland and they were so much better, I was relieved and the new material was really cool and danceable live). It's not as crazy as the first album stuff, but by now they're so popular that all the kiddos want to go crazy so it still tends to be a pretty good show, crowdwise.

I don't care if they have a better light show if Alice is still going to hop around the stage and sound like a cat that's getting sodomized with a broken beer bottle.

I would give them another chance, saw them at roo '09 and everyone I talked to that was at that show loved it. Everyone I talked too about the coachella show on the other hand...not so much lol. I think they are pretty hit and miss. Please god give them a night set.

Seconded. Can anyone confirm 100% whether Alice has stopped shrieking and either substituted it with actual singing or completely STFU. Everything else (improved light show this, new album that) is secondary. Thanks, appreciate the insight!

I dont think Alice has stopped shrieking, but in my opinion, its just fucking cool. If you cant handle it go watch some boring alternative, but yeah I think they have improved their live show since last year, i've seen em three times since

You either love it or you dont. Personally, when I saw them it was a great time.

If you want amazing vocals with well thought out lyrics and lots of live instruments, this isn't for you. If you like raw energy and nostalgic video game noises, you will have a fun time. CC is much more interesting to me than something like Sleigh Bells. Their new album is actually pretty good and I'd be interested to see how they pull some of the songs off live. Most likely Alice will just scream and jump into the crowd, and that somehow works for this duo.

At Coachella they will most likely lay another egg unless they have a nice billing, something like 10PM in the gobi up against some eurotrance garbage in the Sahara.

Edit: Actually, since they are playing on Friday there will be something else on that is better. Friday is way too stacked IMO.

Ahhhwww, she's wearing a Male Bonding cutoff. That's too adorable.

I heard she broke her ankle at a show, and Ethan wasn't sure if they'd have to cancel or just have Alice perform in a wheelchair. What a trooper; she's even using crutches. I hope she takes it easy so she doesn't re-injure her ankle before they play the Riv in March...

And moomoo, your comment made me nearly spit my beer up. The look + the crutches was a little too much.

She broke her ankle before their NYE show in Boulder. I have seen them 3 times last year and the first 2 times they totally killed it. Their new lighting setup is mostly strobes and Alice would fall on the crowd, crowd surf, then lay on stage a chug a handle of cheap whiskey and repeat.

The NYE didn't have the lights or the stage diving, and it was pretty lame. Alice was hobbling around the stage with an ankle brace, but she didn't stage dive at all. Super lame. If they bring their A game and the lighting setup it should be epic. I saw over 200 shows last year and they were top 5 for me the first time I saw them.

Agreed. I will most certainly be having more conflicts on Friday than any other day.

I want CC to be good. I do enjoy both their albums, but have heard so much negativity regarding their live acts. Sounds like they've gotten better but I can't see myself committing to their set for more than fifteen minutes considering what's going to be on at the same time.

Crystal Castles live are a lot more noisey and abbrassive than they are on the albums. So, just go into the show expecting that. I love Crystal Castles live, but their performance style isnt for everyone though.

This paints a better picture in my head, thank you. I have mixed feelings about that type of performance so we'll see.

I wouldn't mind seeing them, but I wouldn't cry if they clashed.

Should we expect Robert Smith to guest at Coachella? I am assuming they are headlining a stage, which might make it more likely.

Also good. Note the lack of stupid fucking shrieking.

In fact, this was my favorite part of getting my ears raped in 09, and that's only because Reckless is such a dopeass song. But there's no way you can tell me that whining bitch is adding anything worthwhile.
