Sunday '09 was my favorite day for top to bottom action:

Vivian Girls
No Age
Fucked Up
Brian Jonestown Massacre
Lykke Li
Antony and the Johnsons
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
My Bloody Valentine
The Orb
The Kills
Throbbing Gristle
The Cure

That actually looks like an incredible ATP lineup.

i will never be able to top the joy of 2009 minus that sunday. the sunday killed me because i was so burnt out, but seeing paul mccartney and all the old ladies with their walkers coming into the polo fields and then also being dead front and center for the killers... priceless.

has to be the Saturday in 2006 since it was the day I knew exactly where I'd be spending a weekend in April every year!

Saturday of 2008 was probably my favorite single day lineup-wise. Prince, Portishead, Kraftwerk, Hot Chip, (boys noize/erol), MGMT.

Friday of 2010 is up there too. Fever Ray, LCD, Echo and the Bunnymen, Passion Pit, The Specials, She & Him, Hockey, Yeasayer

Friday 2010:
Dj lance rock
Sleigh bells (the weakest link here)
She & him
Grizzly bear
Little dragon
Fever ray

Since they've gone to a 3-day festival, Friday always seems to be my best day.

2007 was probably my favorite, but 2010 gave it a run for the money:
Flosstradamus (walking the grounds)
Tokyo Police Club
Satellite Party
Of Montreal
Silversun Pickups
Arctic Monkeys
Jesus & Mary Chain
Peeping Tom
Interpol
Sonic Youth
(Regret missing Gogol Bordello)

Here was my Friday 2010:
DJ Lance Rock
As Tall As Lions
Hockey
Ra Ra Riot
The Specials
Passion Pit
Them Crooked Vultures
Echo & The Bunnymen
LCD Soundsystem
Vampire Weekend
Public Image Ltd.

Friday of 08 for me.

Battles > Cut Copy > Aphex Twin > Pendulum > Fatboy Slim

I wish I had known Dan Deacon at the time because I definitely would have stayed for his set in the Gobi in between Battles and Cut Copy instead of wandering around. Either way, great fucking day. 08 was probably my favorite year all around.

sunday 09 i think for me just in terms of the overall experience. i had been at coachella running around for two straight days by myself (with friends obviously, but if i felt like going somewhere i'd suddenly sprint off on my own) and then sunday my girlfriend and her friend came and we spent the majority of the day climbing all over the dome and sprinting back and forth to the sahara. plumps and groove armada stand out.

in terms of the best string of artists i'd say sunday 2010: miike snow > glorbital > plastikman > dancing off the polo fields to 'on melancholy hill'

Best one ( Day 1, 1999 ) was having to lay on the wonderful grass from the mushrooms in between Art of Noise and the next stage, tripping on the music and lights of each show.

I should say Friday of '06 because seeing Daft Punk at Coachella changed my life. But this thread is about the best day overall and other than that one act, the rest of that day didn't hold a candle to some of the other days I've had at Coachella. Really, my best overall day of Coachella of all time would be a tie between Friday 2009 (highlights in bold):

Gui Boratto
Steve Aoki / wandering around when we got bored of Aoki's antics
The Hold Steady won't get a chance to see that amazing keyboardist Franz Nicolay play with them again, and he was the highlight of that band. Amazing
The Black Keys
Crystal Castles
Ghostland Observatory
Girl Talk
The Presets
The Crystal Method
Paul McCartney caught about the last 45 minutes of his set after TCM :-D

And Sunday 2007

Lupe Fiasco
Tapes N' Tapes
Grizzly Bear for about 1/2 an hour
Explosions in the Sky
Soulwax Nite Versions
CSS
Klaxons right at the front it was insannnee
Cut Chemist in the Dome
Air (only for a bit since they came on so late)
RATATAT
RATM

And I've been to 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010.
Great thread by the way!

Saturday of 2001 was it for me. I was really sad back then and I drove out by myself and within about two hours I knew I wouldn't ever miss a day at Coachella. Highlights were Saint Germain on the Outdoor Stage (I was in tears during their entire afternoon set it was soooo beautiful) and then the Jane's Addiction reunion later that night was stupendous.

It wasn't until the Sunday of 2002 when I spent any time at the Sahara tent because I didn't think I cared for EDM, and that was a life-changer as well - I spend most of my time at the Sahara these days.

Saturday of 2004 was pretty awesome as well - there were just way too many people crowded at the Main Stage for Radiohead and I was a mile away so I went to a tent and discovered Mindless Self Indulgence playing to almost nobody and they were AMAZING!

01-18-2011, 02:04 PM
I guess I'm not the only one that loves the Sahara tent.

Everyday is Wonderful at Coachella! Seeing groups you've waited forever to see and discovering new groups you haven't had the opportunity to hear about!

Everyday at Coachella is Heavenly!

Sunday 2006 without a doubt...

Octopus Project
Be Your Own Pet
Mates of State
Phoenix
Sleater-Kinney
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Madonna
The Go! Team
Scissor Sisters

So much dancing!!! I woke up in the night like 3 times throwing myself out of the tent because I had such bad leg cramps. Now I know to do some stretching throughout the day. =)

I will tell you my worst day. Sunday 2009 - the only day I could make it that year.

I got a flat tire on the way to coachella, had to get it changed at the Costco a few miles away from the fields, got drunk at the red robin near by, even more drunk in the parking lot meeting up with two friends, super mega ultra combo drunk inside the venue, taking a nap in the cooled igloo room, and having my phone stolen from right in-front of me.

Honestly can't remember. What I do remember was the fact that the security, lack there of, was so relaxed about the whole thing. Felt like they were rent-a-disney-cast-members. When the sun went down every night, literally, the crazies came out. Insane! Plus it felt like a private event.

I remember the stage filling up with crowdmembers for Paper Planes and they had to get people off the stage because it was a-creaking and the speaker stacks on the sides were going to topple inwards. She really needs more gunshots and airhorns in her show though because, c'mon.

PS: I drive past the corner of Glendale Blvd and Silver Lake every day and there is STILL a faded poster for the M.I.A. show last summer on the SE traffic light pole. It mocks me to this day for buying those tickets.

Great weekend. my only Vegoose sadly was the last Vegoose. One day i would like to revisit the photo thread i made for it. (http://coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12477) First to complete it and second to re edit the pictures (my style and tools have changed a lot in 3 years).

Best Coachella day? Still got to mull over the International Noise Conspiracy>Pixies>Radiohead>Kraftwerk from 2004 with the MGMT>Bonde Do Role>Kate Nash>Hot Chip>Kraftwek>Portishead>Calvin Harris>Yelle>Prince from 2008 (http://coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21113).

Same here.. That was one kickass weekend, the fact that it was Halloween weekend was just the icing on the cake.

My best day was Saturday '07, just an absolute blast. I really hustled around the Polo Fields that day;

Busy P/Mehdi
DJ Heather
The Fratellis
The New Pornographers
Pharaohe Monch
Hot Chip
Peter, Bjorn, and Jon
!!! (Chk,Chk,Chk)
Ozomatli

The Arcade Fire
The Black Keys
LCD Soundsystem
Gotan Project

I don't know if I'd call it best day ever lineup wise, but my best coachella experience day ever was Saturday, April 27 2002

The Beta Band, Bjork, Lee Burridge, Cake, Charlatans UK, The Chemical Brothers, Citizen Cope, Cornershop, DJ Z-Trip, Folk Implosion, Forest for the Trees, G. Love & Special Sauce, Groove Armada, Jack Johnson, Jimmy Van M., Jurassic 5, Kosheen, KRS-One, The (International) Noise Conspiracy, The Pharcyde, Princess Superstar, Queens of the Stone Age, Sasha & John Digweed, Saul Williams, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Vines and Pete Yorn.

It was one of those days where everything was hitting on all cylinders--everyone in our group was on the same page and it being my first time seeing Bjork certainly didn't hurt.

I was there in 99 but didn't really know what to make of the whole thing. I went again to the single day coachella in 2001. It was OK. It wasn't until 2002 that I really started to get it and maybe that's why I have such great memory for that year.

The sweet thing about TGTBTQ that night, is that it was probably the smallest crowd I've ever seen at the Outdoor Stage. Maybe just a couple hundred at the most, a very intimate performance..

Saturday of 2006 was, by far, the best single day I've had so far:

The Walkmen
Animal Collective
Deerhoof
TV on the Radio
Sigur Ros
Franz Ferdinand
Depeche Mode
Daft Punk

Cliche, but Sunday 2005, partially because it was my first Coachella and scored production wristbands from when I was working part time for goldenvoice but hadn't been offered to work coachella yet so they gave me and a few friends the next best thing to working, passes.

Nine Inch Nails, Arcade Fire, Stereophonics, Roni Size, Thrice & The Blood Brothers :thu

I'm anticipating a reunion, it's bound to happen. The only reason they broke up was because they felt they just couldn't produce another album and all move in the same direction with it. So nobody left on bad terms. Catch the reunion when it happens my friend, it will be a show to remember!

Best day - day 1 27th April 2007
The band I travelled 18 hours for and waited along to see - The Jesus And Mary Chain, who had been preceeded by Silversun Pickups and Arctic Monkeys (who I usually am not a fan of but was into it today) and followed by Interpol and Sonic Youth. Camped as well and had the best vegetarian wrap. The night in the camp and following day was pretty ace also

Devotchka>Stephen Malkmus>Kraftwerk>Portishead>Prince

I was front row for Kraftwerk, Portishead and Prince....seriously one of the best days of my life.

Saturday of last year:

Watching the XX and then running over to Bassnectar. It was the funniest dichotomy. We went from standing still and listening to quiet beautiful music to going straight into a raging brutal bass dance party

Friday '10

less crowded than the other nights because everyone was still trying to get in or had given up (although the line to get in was a nightmare), and this lineup:

Specials (and a couple beers)
Grizzly Bear
LCD Soundsystem
Fever Ray (at the rail)
end of PiL (recovering from Fever Ray)

the only thing that could have made it better would have been if Grace Jones didn't cancel

Sat04:
DIOS, Erase Errata, The Evens, Q and Not U, Beck, Sparta, Pixies, Radiohead

Just the list of bands I missed that day (/hadn't heard of yet in some cases) astounds me:
LCD, Black Keys, Rapture, Trail of Dead, Kraftwerk, Kool Keith, MF Doom, Moving Units, Sterolab, etc.

how did 2011 stack up for people's favorite?

Last year was just incredibly solid across the board except for late afternoon Sunday...but, sorry Arcade Fire and Kanye Fans, there have been far better headlining shows. But pre-4pm was never better than it was last year...Love Language, Twin Shadow, Menomena, Black Joe Lewis, Tallest Man On Earth, Fucking Foals (best show of entire fest last year imho), Titus Andronicus, Phosphorescent, !!!, Good Old War, OFF!, Delorean, Joy Formidable...the early hour shows were just ridiculously good last year.

I've been going since '08 and I'd say Saturday '08 and Friday '09 are top two, and agree Friday '10 was excellent as well with Fever Ray, Jay-Z and Public Image all going head to head and a great LCD Soundsystem subheadliner set, and then I'd probably rate Sunday '09 fourth with a killer early set from Okkervil River and a fantastic close out with awesome sets by X, Public Enemy, My Bloody Valentine, and the epic 3 hour Cure closing set.

For me, since '08, Saturday '10 was worst day, just one bad prog act after another...though night ended well with Dead Weather and I Think Devo, probably followed by Sunday '08, which was pretty lame until My Morning Jacket got things going at 6pm prior to Roger Waters Home Run Set to close out the weekend.

Saturday '04 - Any night that ends with Pixies, Kraftwerk and Radiohead with a little Stereolab thrown in, is a great day! (also, that day I saw The Stills, The Rapture, The Black Keys, Beck, Sahara Hotnights, Boozoo Bajou, Junior Senior, Laurent Garnier, MF Doom, Kool Keith)

Friday - 2009

Dear and the Headlights -> Aggrolites -> We Are Scientists -> Los Campesinos -> The Black Keys -> Franz Ferdinand -> Leonard Cohen -> Beirut -> (Tail end of Morrisey, this conflict was awful) -> Paul McCartney

Los Campesinos in their prime, Paul McCartney killing a 3 hour set, Beirut was fantastic, Franz, Black Keys, Cohen, and a solid opening slate. This day was unreal.

Realistically as a music fan I will never see anything greater than Kraftwerk > Portishead > Prince. Thinking about this actually makes this year's lineup that much more depressing, honestly.

Too hard to nail down just one day but:

Sunday April 18th 2010 was pretty non-stop.
One EskimO, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Talvin Singh, Rusko, MuteMath, Florence and the Machine, 1/2 Charlotte Gainsbourg, 1/2 Jonsi, 1/2 Infected Mushroom, 1/2 Phoenix, Orbital, Thom York, Gorillaz.

Can't complain about April 26 2008.
Institubes, DJ Mehdi, Minus the Bear, MGMT, 1/2 Boyz Noize, 1/2 Kate Nash, St Vincent, Death Cab for Cutie, Animal Collective, Portishead, Prince(Don't remember much of him due to Portishead after effects).

Sooooo many good days, very tough question to reply too accurately.

Last year when David Hasselhoff was driving KITT around backstage.

My actual favorite moment was 2 years ago when we were parked next to Jimmy Eat World's bus backstage. I was sick and after the day ended I climbed into our RV and decided to go to sleep. About an hour later a deep sounding bass began rattling the windows. Right next door some ahole was blasting music, I was not happy. Decided to look out the window to check it out. The Crystal Method had set up shop at the back of JEW's bus, huge speakers, lights...even lasers. What transpired was the most fun couple hours I have ever experienced on the festival grounds. Several dozen people who were also staying back there came out and the dance party began, many old friends were run into, everyone just hanging out until 4 or so in the morning.
