it took a long time for the Nokia show to sell out (if it even did). i bought my ticket like 5 days before the show. If this really took several days for a pre-sale to sell out, it's a good sign that anybody has time to make a decision about this one.

I have scoured the net for information about the vocals for the spring tour, and finally found this article (http://concerttour.org/royksopp-sets-sights-on-north-america-for-march-concert-tour.php) (and a couple other references I can't find my way back to now)

Vocalist Anneli Drecker will be joining the duo or their upcoming tour. Drecker appeared on previous tracks from Royksopp, including “Sparks” off of “Melody AM,” and “True to Life,” “You Don’t Have a Clue” and “Vision One” from the set “Junior.” The touring group will be rounded out by guitarists Ole Vegard Skauge and Kato Adland.

I don't know how reliable Concerttour.org is, though.

I was planning on it but at this point I don't know. I ordered new mics to replace the ones I lost and that was like 7 weeks ago and they still haven't arrived yet. And I have a floor ticket when I think I would prefer a loge ticket for taping. I'll bring my camera but it's all kind of in the air at the point. The last time I was at the Wiltern for Massive Attack nobody seemed to care I was taping so I might try video again but we'll see. I can report back after the show if that will help you.

I gotta admit.. I enjoyed the show but wasn't blown away.

Setlist was odd, and far from what I would have considered my ideal setlist (though I knew this going into the show). Pretty sure that was Anneli Drecker on vocals, and despite this the only track they did live which featured her in the studio version was Sparks, from the first album. Would have loved if they played Vision One, True To Life or You Don't Have a Clue. The live version of The Girl & The Robot was cool, but fell short of seeing Robyn perform it live (although to be fair, comparing 98% of performers to Robyn is unfair... she's fucking amazing live). Was on one hand happy that they did What Else Is There (and Anneli did a pretty decent job trying to capture the unique flair of Karin's vocals), but I was disappointed by the live arrangement of the song. Easily my highlight of the night was the encore of "Only This Moment".

Wish they would have played more from their second and third albums instead of four non-album tracks (I did enjoy the cover of Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights... but it seemed out of place in the set).. and something like The Drug or The Fear from Senior would have been really cool for the chiller moments of the show.

Their costumes were fun. Although the backdrop they used seemed odd in comparison to the rest of their stage setup. But with the way the lights and smoke worked out (which looked really nice, simple but effective), it was largely obscured so not a huge deal.

All in all though, I'm glad I went. First show I've been to at The Wiltern since moving out here.

To be fair, bands generally see a very minimal return on album sales, and more of a cut off of merch sales...

So on some level one could argue you'd be better off bootlegging the albums and buying merch...

Not judging either way, just a tangential thought.

Agreed on the setlist. I knew it was going to be "weird" going into the show. I was bummed to not hear Royksopp's Night Out but they absolutely KILLED it on Alpha Male. Overall I thought the show at Club Nokia was better from a setlist and vocals point of view. But, Club Nokia has to be the worst venue in LA and seeing them at a proper venue like The Wiltern more than made up for the setlist being what it was.

Everyone on stage looked like they were having a great time and I thought the costumes were simple but effective. At one point Svein came out with some mask that looked like it was from Splinter Cell and was strutting around the stage.

But, Club Nokia has to be the worst venue in LA and seeing them at a proper venue like The Wiltern more than made up for the setlist being what it was.

I get all agitated every time I hear there words "Club Nokia." What the fuck were they thinking?

I was far too burnt out, dealing with some bullshit and cranky to attend this show, too bad, I had two tix that went to waste.

But, I wonder if what we got at Ultra was unique? Them spazzing out and going fucking apeshit on the synths creating some live techno awesomeness and just obviously having fun with the crowd.

Well, what I saw at Ultra was fucking awesome, I hope those that went to this got that too...

I doubt there will be a next time. And the gist of peoples' reviews to me are mixed and so-so on the setlist. At Nokia there was a flawless setlist and everyone raved real hard. Nonetheless, I wasn't at this one so I can't comment, but the way you guys put it, even after the fact of me having said so, still doesn't leave much to be desired. Still wish I could have made it.

I just looked up the setlist from the Club Nokia show... On some level, I still would have preferred more from The Understanding... but even with that, it looks like a show where they were actually supporting their most recent album (being Junior at that time, obviously)...

Definitely looks to be a better setlist and kind of makes me sad that I didn't make it up to New York for the Webster Hall show that year.

About half way into their set, they were doing some live techno. Jumpin around with the Splinter Cell mask. It sounded great in the Wiltern and it got everyone dancing.

The show was really fun, but it had its up and downs. Anyone else notice wayyy too much chatter?

If anyone has any qualms about this show they weren't there.

The setlist was on point. Only one I could have gone without would be that stupid Kate Bush cover. Seriously I'm not interested in a Playboy model's debut as a music artist, especially when she sounds like that.

As for the singer, she was great. She wasn't very attractive, but really Robyn isn't either... All the songs they did hit the right mood, and she really put on a performance.

I've loved Royksopp since I was a tyke in 5th grade and my aunt married an Englishman who showed me Poor Leno. Maybe that's why I had so much appreciation for their Melody AM introduction.

But maybe it was because I was front fucking row. Getting to a show on time = how to.
Looking up the setlist to know when the encore is is great too.

Show's done, que joint, encore, Only This Moment, winning.
I was so blazed when Tricky Tricky came on I was halfway tripping. Karin Andersson was alive in that set.

And a late answer to:

if i were to give you a ride, what artist would you want to listen to on the way to the show?
I'd like to listen to Royksopp of course... If you're not one for pregame partying then we could always chill out and groove to RATATAT.

I took the train though, that's why I was front row and you weren't. Troll asshole.

Wheres the beef?

I believe the singer was the first vocalist they ever worked with. I could be wrong, but her voice sounded very familiar and comforting on many of the tracks. It was a great show. I can't believe we are whining about this.

How about we whine about the fact that Royksopp has yet to make it to the polo fields? That's worth crying about.

whey would they open for her when they can play to a 2500 people sold-out crowd in la, like they did a few months back at the wiltern?? i'm pretty sure it's a co-headliner thing, like the kelis-robyn tour.

staying under the radar is röyksopp's choice and they don't really like to tour. they could have toured the states like cut copy, robyn and many other overseas acts did did but they've stated numerous times that they're making music for the sake of doing it and really happy at where they are right now.

i know they opened for other elecronic acts like moby when they're starting but i don't think they would open for anyone at the moment except a very few names, like jean michel jarre, kraftwerk etc.

You've really got Royksopp on a pedestal that they don't necessarily deserve there. Their last album hasn't charted at ALL in the states. It'd be hard not to see their popularity as declining. Certainly the best case scenario is that they're maintaining with no growth. Whereas Robyn's been exploding. Additionally, she's more of a household name in the US then Royksopp are (Keep in mind, I said "more" not that she IS a household name). I know plenty of people who know nothing about dance music that are familiar with her (if only Dancing On My Own) and would know nothing about Royksopp.

That said, it could really go either way. LA is an odd beast so normal rules do not apply here. There are a dozen reasons either of them could choose to open over the other. Of course, that's ignoring how 9 times out of 10, "With Special Guest" implies "opening act". The billing on the flyer seems pretty clear. And since it's posted by the promoter, and not her label/artist management/etc... it's likely to be pretty indicative of the order of the night.

i don't agree with you, röyksopp deserves to be given more credit and i think you're overestimating robyn a little bit. the main reason she's exploding right now is because she spent the last 2 years touring and promoting her music, especially in the usa, while röyksopp played a very few shows. but yeah, she's bigger than them atm, there's nothing to argue there. and "senior" wasn't promoted well at all, probably because they got themselves out of their emi contract and released the album on a different and less-known label.

röyksopp's wiltern show a few months back was sold out -actually all their shows were sold out in their last north america tour- so why would they open for someone when they can get their own crowd?? i'd understand if it was someone much bigger but robyn?? don't think so.

all that said, it doesn't really matter for me who's name is bigger on the flyer or who goes first, knowing both of the acts i'm sure it'll be pretty amazing. i think this might even be a co-headlining usa tour thing, we shall wait and see!

Seriously, why did it become fashionable to start predicting the VU? Jesus Christ people, their drummer was most recently seen hanging out at tea party rallies.

Define "fashionable" for us.

im the source... BB<DP

RH or CP or PJ

because they havnt dropped anything relevant since Hello Nasty, but they have a good relationship w/ GV and its going to be a nice comeback for Adam
if DP backs out then ull get ur headlining spot

from what i remember GV made a very strong attempt at getting VU last year but Lou wasnt ready... the appearances at the Gorillaz shows indicate that might have changed since....

So is REM out of the question?

no... actually theyre more likely than PJ. I just really want PJ

AF/DP/REM would be freakin' awesome. The lineup is shaping up nicely... the non-headliners are also pretty good.

hahaha ^^^^.... i honestly think a lot more names are a given than in previous years. Maybe we're just getting smarter.

If you're doing a special trip, I'd say you should definitely look at trying to get seats in a Garden Box. You'll have a great view no matter where you are, and if you're looking to jump around and dance, you can remove the seats in the box, which opens up a LOT of space. Worked great for the Kylie show.

The only thing that could potentially be a buzzkill on this one is the size vs what I imagine the audience to be. At a capacity of over 17,000 the Bowl is too big for Kylie, let alone Robyn and Royksopp.

I have six people, and while there are some boxes which seat six, they're generally further back and to the side, if I'm not mistaken.

Got section D, Row 15. Price was $47.50, about $60 each after fees (3rd price tier). I used the "DANCE" password. Went back in with "KCRW" password and was only able to get a Terrace Box. Those seats were the highest price level ($102 after fees). I don't mind sitting to the far right since it's still really close and saving $40 per ticket is awesome.

I'll try again on Friday for Pool or Garden, otherwise see y'all in Section D for a dance party!

I'm in section D as well, row 8... but I'm convinced either there are going to be better tickets available for the regular sale OR since I have yet to receive any information about a presale via the Robyn and Royksopp lists and both have claimed they will be sending presale info, that they must be holding garden boxes and such for them. Cause even when we had someone try for 2 tickets right off the bat, the best they came up with were Terrace boxes

Besides, THE BEST seats arent even going to be avail on public onsale. Theyll be auctioned off 2 weeks before the show.

...for those looking for a URL to buy good seats from. Guaranteed to be either pool or garden so for $106.25 after fees it isn't such a bad deal considering what shitty TM tix are available.

I've tried that before. They'll reverse the charges, and then Ticketmaster will fight the reversal because you technically "signed" a binding agreement to buy the tickets. Ticketmaster will win. Only real way to avoid it is to claim frauduletn activity on your account and have it shut down.

At the same time, I guess you can just sell your original ones.

I didn't realize there was such hate for the Bowl. I understand the hate against the Greek, but why the Bowl?

dancefreak
07-07-2011, 08:03 AM
I wouldn't generalize the vocal opinion of a small minority to mean that there's some greater hate for the Hollywood Bowl.

For dance acts, some people don't like that its seated and that the sound is shitty in the back. My POV is that the bowl is such a unique venue combined with the fact that I've seen someone like Royksopp in clubs or 'proper' venues enough times already, that the quirks are far outweighed by the overall experience of hearing this kind of music in a historic location under the stars.

suprefan
07-07-2011, 09:00 AM
I think everyone hates all the uptight douches who attend the bowl and arent there for the music, just there for the scene. So pretty much adult hipsters without the terrible fashion sense.

Actually, I change my mind.

After a day of thinking about it, what the fuck? 110 dollars for a fucking ticket to this?

Muse, Radiohead, all sorts of bands don't charge those prices. This reeks of arrogance.

Combine that with the fact that I don't want to deal with the fucking drama associated with a few of the people going to this, I'm going to sell this fucking ticket and be rid of it.
