Metallica's seminal self titled album (aka "the Black Album") is turning 20 next year. This is one of the biggest selling albums of all time and is thus also considered one of the greatest.

Word on the street is they will be performing the album live in it's entirety next year to commemorate the anniversary.

They have played all the big festivals all over the world (Bonnaroo, Reading, Download/Monsters Of Rock, Summer Sonic, Rock Am Ring etc) but have yet to play Coachella.

I think the greatest band of all time performing the greatest album of all time would be the perfect act for the greatest festival of all time.

Please discuss.

I am a fan of Metallica, but they should not play Coachella. And I could not care less about the Black Album in its entirety. Boring. Give me Master of Puppets.

^ This ... The black album was shite and everything that followed it was as well. If they performed at coachella it would have to include a lot of pre black album material ... I still dont think they will play coachella and I am more than ok with that

Everyone says that yet those songs still dominate the setlist and get the biggest cheers every night. Guess maybe it's only people who don't have internet and participate on message boards that like those songs.

That's what they say every year. Just one festival. Which will end up being 8 - 10 festival dates minimum. Plus the rumored shows with Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax.

Greatest album by the best band of all time?!? Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All are all way better.

They should be celebrating the 23rd anniversary of Justice instead.

i love metallica, but the crowd they brought to Bonnaroo was awful. they literally ruined the festival for me and my lady. seeing a fist fight between a mom and her stepdaughter while trying to watch sigur ros was a life ruiner.

That's why I'm almost certain they'll play lolla due to both of them celebrating 20 years.

This isn't Sgt. Pepper, DSotM, or Exile On Main Street.

The Black Album is neither their best nor most influential album. Puppets or Lightning are much more acclaimed. The Black Album is their sellout with Bob Rock.

Thanks for playing. Here are some nice parting gifts.

I don't want to hear "My Friend of Misery" unless Newsted is playing bass.

My Friend of Misery....yes, yes, with more yes! the God that failed, struggle within I dont think has EVER been played....but yeah...why would I wanna hear an album they play 70% of live every night?

Bob Rock ruined Metallica.

Death Magnetic rocked, they played 1 song from Load the other night for the 1st time in 18 months... their live shows are just old material, so who cares about Load/Reload/St.Anger....

So, umm, the setlists still focus on the Black Album material? That doesn't seem right based on the setlists I've seen in the past, oh, 15 years.

every night they play, Sad but True, Enter sandman, Nothing Else Matters....then often play Unforgiven, Wherever I May Roam, sometimes Holier than Thou, Through The Never, Of Wolf and Man....and mega rarely The God That Failed and never Dont Tread on Me, Struggle Within, My Friend of Misery

So you are at Sigur Ros.
The people standing next to you are at Sigur Ros.
But they had a fight at Sigur Ros so they must be Metallica fans even though they are at Sigur Ros.
Makes sense.

They are doing this at Donington.

They probably wouldn't be playing the Polo Fields two years in a row (hello paulb) I still think it would be awesome if they brought this show to Coachella too.

Maybe the mom and her stepdaughter were both wearing Metallica Tshirts and screaming for Metallica during Sigur Ros.

Gross. I'd rather watch skrillex then metallica. Don't give a shit about their legacy. Old trash.

I am in no way a Metallica fan. I really don't like their music and never have. But you sir, can go give yourself a prostate exam with your fist.

I'd be surprised if "Loutallica" could fill a Coachella tent for the entire duration of 60 minute set dedicated almost entirely to that album material.
