Flame away but this would be amazing. I thought Roadsinger was a great album and wouldn't be suprised if he has a bunch of unreleased material, not to mention how amazing his old stuff is (Tea/Teaser/Mona). What are the chances he would do Coachella and if he was there as Cat would he be the top act non-headline, or a smaller poster name as Yusuf?

Why hasn't this happened yet?

I think my first favorite song as a little boy was "Peace Train".
So, signed.

This would be awesome. I would love to see either him or Paul Simon in that slot.

NO TERRORISTS.

The TSA could run security the day he played. We'd be safe .........

Glad to see this response. I always put Cat on my "never gonna happen" list, with Led Zeppelin, The Smiths, and Stevie Wonder. I think he could draw a massive crowd at sunset with everyone baked and very few bro's.

His name is Yusuf

I believe I read an article years ago, where Yusuf Islam alluded to problems playing festivals. The alcohol sponsorship gave him particular concerns, he doesn't mind alcohol so much, just the idea that part of his fee/income would be from alcohol and that at festivals there is heavy exposure to alcohol.
I think there are a few other logistical issues that cause problems e.g. he doesn't play/travel very much on Fridays and playing at sunset would conflict with his prayer obligations.

Exactly why this is still a longshot to me. Rumors and signs point to him traveling a little more and opening up to doing more benefits, and philanthropy shows and recordings, but a major festival I am not sure.

Yeah it would be a long shot. I guess it depends on the festival organizers and how willing they would be to meet and solve the problems yusuf would have.
There are a few other additional issues I think would be a problem but I wouldn't open that can of worms here.

Totally support. I bet GV would be willing to accommodate him quite a bit to bring a name like that to Coache11a.

After his performance, we can all issue a fatwa to assissinate Salman Rushdie.

How? Like I said alcohol is the biggest potential issue. I don't think he likes to be around alcohol and people drinking alcohol-which would be a major problem backstage. Like I also indicated their are some other issues that Yusufs faith would cause, but I won't go in to this here (see below).

Sadly, there are a few idiots who assume all muslims are terrorist fatwa issuing nut jobs-as indicated on these boards. That alone would cause issues.

I think most of the fatwa, terrorist talk is tongue-in-cheek.

You're right I wasn't thinking about the alcohol, more the time-slot. So if that's a back-breaker, there's not much they can do.

I don't buy the tongue in cheek stuff, it is deeply held prejudice and ignorance. This is a guy who has promoted peace and been recognized internationally for his peace and humanitarian work.
You certainly don't hear this kind of stuff about Muslim 'terrorists' with Snoop Dog, Buster Rhymes or Ghostface Killah.

I was being tounge in cheek, but if you watch the BBC video from 1989 where he made his initial controversial statements about the whole Rushdie thing, he does say "yes" when asked if Islamic law would require the assissination of Rushdie. That's not quite the same as explicit advocacy, but its close enough for me to call his humanitarian bona fides into question.
