Agreed. It's an amazing festival/experience... but it's definitely line-up dependent. I'll most likely be attending LiB if the Sasquatch line-up is meh.

Coachella will always be my fave festival music-wise, but LiB this year was hands-down the best fest "EXPERIENCE" and overall vibe I've ever experienced ... I just left feeling totally blissed out (I know it sounds like I was drinking the hippie juice), but I've missed that feeling every day since! Definitely a can't miss...

You're absolutely right, I just feel like the way the festival is run, the location, the crowds, makes it NOT worth the trek. Especially for someone coming from LA. You know I had a blast with you guys and im glad you did too.

In my opinion, absolutely. LiB is more of a paradise than it is a festival. It feels so much more organic than Coachella, it's always thriving and growing, art is being produced everywhere. There are no entrances/exits where you need to be searched, when the festival 'ends' life is just beginning. You can find little artistic alcoves where the music keeps going, the art keeps getting created, and the people keep dancing. It's utter and complete relaxation (obviously you can't do your drugs in the open like an idiot, there are still cops. Alcohol is a different story though, bring in as much as you like), I have never been so worry-free in my entire life. Another thing, EVERYBODY IS FUCKING HOT. I figured it would be a bunch of smelly ass, stingy, hairy hippies, but everyone is fucking beautiful and interesting. Hipster/douchebag-free. It's a utopia pulsating with art and happiness.

SIGH

Excuse the rant, I really miss LiB.

I think they were just trying to trump a festival they've never experienced by just listing off as many power festivals they could at the time, trying to belittle it. Moving on... pretty sure they said after this year's fest that they were going to be back next year, as in the same spot.

edit: why would they leave? it was a pretty flawless spot. hopefully they improve on more camping on level surfaces. and maaaaybe just let us get our feet wet in the lake. although, i don't see that working out

Devin and I were really kicking ourselves in the ass for going to the Booka Shade gig then heading to the venue to set up camp. We should have gone to set up camp when the gates opened then went to the show because like Zimmy said, the sloping tundra cannot happen. Next year I am definitely down to arrive when camp opens to secure a prime spot in the grass and shade. We will need as many people as possible to meet up and do this cause securing down a large spot for everyone will be tricky without enough people.

I get what yer sayin, but a campsite has always been really nice at festivals like this. you can always just go take a shower and a dip in the pool anytime if you leave your car in general parking. they didn't care if you left last year, i think.

Wheres the beef?

coming from camping, the stages were off to the right, and the general parking to the left, both about the same distance from camping, which was a decent 10-15 min walk. 20 on the way back up the hill. going from the stages to parking was a really short walk.

I really think if you live close you should still camp and just leave when you're done partying. Andrew and Sophia left one day to do go home. Camping was included in the ticket price and parking is right there. It's so easy to come and go as you please too.

Bleezie
11-05-2010, 08:55 AM
Camping was included in the ticket price. You should camp and just leave when you want to freshen up. Parking was free too, and I believe they had shuttles the entire weekend to and from camping to the parking lot. I would be down to get there early for some grass and shade. There were some prime locations if you got there early last year.

^that spot in the picture probably had around 100 tents (possibly more) in it and was filled up by the morning after the gates opened. probably earlier.

There weren't many other spots like that, I don't think. most people were camped on this:

Yea those spots were gone by Friday morning. We unfortunately had to pitch our tent on that hard packed dirt on a 30 degree slant...no bueno. They didn't seach at all; for camping or for when you went into the fest. People were walking in with bottles of beer and alcohol and no one said anything lol. I think there were like 3 security guards for the entire fest lol, they were practically non-existent, but there were still the 4-5 Irvine Police that were on the grounds supervising.

I feel you on that. I wasnt big on the music there, but there was so much more to the festival that it really didnt even matter. And ya I still had fun chillin out and dancing.

This is gonna be their second time at this location, I hope to god they dont change shit about it. Chances are they are gonna be stricter on security (though thats not saying much), but I have no doubt its gonna be good.

On a steep hill perhaps, but otherwise it's fine. Stake your tent properly. Most camping is not done on a pristine manicured level field like at Coachella. :P

This pretty well sums it up for me too... although I'm a little less excited about Nosaj Thing. I wanted to go last year, but can only spend so much money on so many music events... you all know how it is. This year I'm doing the same thing as you and saving my $1,000 of Coachella cash and spending $500 at LIB instead. The Coachella lineup is pretty meh for me and the crowds last year pretty much RUINED the festival. I have already seen most of the acts I want to see anyway's... except for Shpongle Live... that is practically worth the price of admission and will kill me not to see it. (Poster say's DJ set now... kinda lame, you can see that anywhere.) Any chance of Shpongle Live at LIB???? How about some Emancipator again?

So anyway I just wanted to say, what's up to all the LIBers. Me and my wife and probably 4 or 5 friends will be invading the spot this year and can't fucking wait! We're buying our tickets on the 28th! Any tips, tricks, or advice about LIB are appreciated. We're Bringing our RV too, any advice? Can our friends camp in the RV spot or next to it?

I really doubt LiB will have Shpongle live if no other festival in the states can manage to book them live. I recall seeing RV's with tents near them so I don't think it will be a problem. You may want to email them though. They really weren't too picky about where to set up camp. Everyone with car camping seemed to be spread about the campgrounds with the RV's near the road on a flat surface.

Fixed. Coachella did not fuck up in 2011, quite the opposite in my opinion.

I can see why you would think that but I have a bit of a different story than you may think. I did everything I was supposed to. Planned ahead (months in advance) and made sure I had the money to buy my tickets. The fuck up came in the form of GV picking Front Gate as their ticket provider on the website. I went to purchase my tickets on layaway, put in my card info, hit buy, and an error message came up saying the address I entered didn't match my card, which it clearly did. So I tried again. Same message. I then tried a third time and this time it said I was locked out of the ticket purchasing system for a few hours. Checked my bank account and they had charged $179.50 3X even though I didn't get a ticket. Called the place and they said the charges were simply pending and they would return to my account in 72 hours. That's fine, but what was I going to do about this money situation in the meantime? All of my funds were tied up in these "pending" transactions and now I couldn't even TRY to buy a ticket because I didn't have enough money. Not because of me. But because of this shotty ticketing system. Of course the tickets sold out before the finds were returned to my account. I wasn't the only one who this happened to. There's a whole thread with people complaining about this same issue.

And my point is that so many people have so many different circumstances get in the way of getting tickets it's so unfair for people to start saying things like, "Oh well man, your fuck up. You snooze you lose" because you don't know their particular story. Some people live paycheck to paycheck, have mortages to pay, etc. that $300 is far too much without a lineup and when the lineup IS announced you only have 6 days before it sells out? Personally, this isn't the kind of mad dash sort of event I want to go to. But that's just me.

Also...quick note. Allowing SIX passes per credit card is almost ASKING for a scalper problem. Who else other than a scalper would need to purchase SIX passes themselves?

Sorry I don't mean to be a whiner. I really don't. Those are just my two cents in the matter. I'm sure tens of thousands of people will have a great time at Coachella but for me, this Lightning in a Bottle is going to be where it's at.

Thanks guys. I will be purchasing tickets on the 28th, but that just solidifies it for me.

I hear ya on the Shpongle, I would kill to see that live, but the DJ tour ends in Atlanta on May 21st so maybe we could get that. I don't think a DJ Set is out of the question, but no it's not nearly as cool.

How About: Emancipator, Casino vs. Japan, Aether, Bluetech, Bonobo, Boards of Canada, Elliott Lipp, ESKMO, Fat Freddy's Drop?, Fling Lotus? Daedelus, Geskia, Telephone Tel Aviv... What are you guys feeling? How was Emancipator last year? Bluetech?

Bluetech?

Was the RV parking closer to the stages? It looks like it on the map, but I wasn't there. Was there grass in the RV area or is it just a dirt lot?

Thanks Again.
I took a look at last years lineup and discovered some really cool stuff including Emancipator and Apparat. Either of those would be fine with me. Flying Lotus would be AMAZING, especially if he brings the whole Infinity band with him. Daedelus would be sick and if they bring back Bassnectar...THAT would be incredible. Other notables would be Four Tet, Fuck Buttons, Caribou, a repeat of Beats Antique, Little Dragon might fit in really well, Autechre, Glasslamp Killer, Virtual Boy, Emalkay...

Not possible. Charlie Cooper died in January 2008 and Josh Eustis stopped touring as "Telefon Tel Aviv" in late 2009. Best electronic act of all time, IMO though. :pulse :(

Super awesome you got to see him on the farewell tour. I was supposed to make the SD show but my ride bailed and my car had just blown up. Anything new involving Josh Eustis would be phenomenal, if it also involves Apparat I know it will be heading in the right direction. He's used several of their tracks and they had used one or two of his on their Remixes Compiled.

Well that's the price at the door. It looks like the best deal is going to be their 24 hr presale on the 28th of Feb for $175 or even purchasing them online prior to the event for $195.

I believe the website made a mention that the lineup would go up shortly after pre-sale starts which is on Feb 28th. So I'd expect sometime early March.

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. This will be my first year going to this and I don't want it to get too big before I'm able to really get my kicks in. Maybe higher ticket prices will equate to bigger names, though. Although taking a look at previous years lineups, they don't really need to worry too much about that.

I've seen this at a few festivals in the past. Probably so they don't have to make friday/saturday only wristbands. (which I've only seen at festivals that don't have on site camping, and only like 1 or 2 that i've been to)

Good Idea on the Beats Antique, I had meant to throw that in and seems kinda likely. I also like the Little Dragon recommend, could be fun. I saw Rusko is ending his tour in L.A. the 2nd or 3rd week of May, he spins a nasTy set too. (That's right with a capital T)

It's an RV lot, why would they need a nice surface?
Bring an air mattress or something, you'll be fine.

(seriously, you'll be fine, if you don't get a good night's sleep, the festival grounds be the best place to nap ever.)

I'm bringing a couple hammocks this year and following suit of whoever put that one up by the bamboo stage... awesome.

It's a free for all. Last year Devin, Moomoo, and I showed up at like 2 in the morning on Friday and basically got as much space as we could save (only spots left big enough for our group was in the dirt but it was practically empty). We could easily do that this year with the ezups and stuff but I just feel like an ass taking up so much grass/shade space since last year most of that space was used for tents. Zimmy had a pretty good spot and you guys had an area set up for a kitchen and stuff that seemed to be out of the way of the other tents. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is if we should aim for the side of the grass so the ezups aren't all up in the grass area that could be used for other people's tent space or if we should just set up shop in the dirt again since we will have ezups....

Camping spot tickets are only necessary for car camping. Iirc, last year there didn't seem to be a designated "car camping" area like they have at Coachella. There were just random cars throughout camp. I definitely do not want to be in the dirt down below the road, seems really hot. But I think with getting there Thursday EARLY that won't be an issue.

Edit: Zimmy speaks the truth as far as napping in the festival grounds. The shade on a papasan chair by the little lake or bring a hammock and tie it up to some trees. AHHHH CAN'T WAIT! posting in this thread and thinking about this weekend makes me really want to commit to going. Almost there.

well, it is a free for all, they advise you to not save spots, but, still... don't let the disgruntled hippies get to you when they start bitching, because they will. And I would probably strategically place tents that will surround a space that can be sacrificed at a later time for the late arrivals.

Our setup was only prime because the people I camped with had their homie (working for the festival) rope off a spot. We did not just stumble upon that location, it was full around us when we got there Thursday night.

So yes, as soon as the gates open, if you want a grass spot, be there.

Yeah, I guess I can agree with the Beats Antique, I've seen them several times too. I definitely wouldn't want that as a headliner, but rather just another dope act to check out at somepoint, but yeah at LIB they would be too high on the lineup taking someone else's spot.

I believe you on the RV lot, but the only comment I saw was "wasn't it all rocks?" so I was asking for someone to confirm homeboy's question. I guess you just confirmed that for me, so thanks.

Why would we need a nice surface? I don't know, so we're not sitting around on a bunch of rocks for 4 days and 4 nights? I do plan to exit the RV at somepoint. Maybe we'll have to set something up on the grass in addition to the RV spot.

I answered it 4 posts down from that post, quoting him... but, you're welcome for the picture.

if you have some extra space in your ride, you should try bringing a couch or some recliners to the festival to compensate for the shitty ground. I saw some pretty dope living rooms in the RV camping area. :)

(I'm talking shitty couches and chairs you find on craigslist for uber cheap or on the side of the road)

Rugs are good too.
