There was only one band that played both and that was LiB's headliner. I'm also curious to see this lineup. I hope we can share a few acts

Booka Shade? Well in any case I feel like Bonobo or a Bonobo DJ set will show up at LiB since he will be at Sasquatch also this year.

I would like to exchange text messages and pictures with Cara and Forza all weekend.

Knowing that a group of my friends are partying hard to awesome music across the country is seriously going to make me enjoy the partying and awesome music I'm experiencing even more. What a bad-ass weekend for electronic music.

Exactly. I remember last year hearing from Forza made me so happy! Plus other friends who were at Sasquatch. It is an insane weekend for music (these 3 +Primavera...)

oh and p.s. I cannot fucking WAIT for Beyond.

Were there any non-electronic acts on the line-up last year?

im not to sure, but it was mainly electronic acts. But this year the do lab was asking what live bands people wanted to see at LiB via there facebook.

03-01-2011, 03:52 PM
Nico Vega! And March Fourth Marching Band. Album Leaf, sort of? I mean yeah they had the fuzzy ambient electronic thing going on last year but I guess in my head they are still more an indie pop/rock band.

Devin the Dude

Album Leaf definitely does not count as electronic, and they were the Sunday headliners.

I'd say they are.

I guess we just have different definitions of "electronic music."

Devin the Dude
03-01-2011, 04:26 PM
Yeah. I mean, their stage setup might be a bit different, but the albums are mostly instrumental (guitar piano drums bass). I don't necessarily count use of keyboards as electronic music, but some do. To each their own. Either way Album Leaf is amazing (on record, their live show bored me so I left and can't comment).

Uhmm... when Zoe and the tranny were stripping to that Beyonce Videophone remix. Yes, that was the highlight of the festival, yes it was better than Apparat, Lipp, and Daedelus combined. Just set the perfect mood for my entire weekend.

they were awesome, i'd say. i wasn't as familiar w/ their music at the time, but i was trippin' too hard to want to be walkin' around a whole lot, and their set was really mellow & cool. my friends bailed, too. then after i'd mellowed out as well, there was nothing else but electronic music the rest of the night.

Devin the Dude

I didn't know the west coast was so familiar with Wakarusa, hence my post. I see a point to my post and I see a point to me being curious in both LiB and wakarusa. Do you not understand that? And if your sick of my shit, get off my shit, get away from my shit and ignore my shit. Otherwise shut your stupid mouth and learn to pick your battles.

Dude. Be easy with your pretentious remarks in a place no one cares to hear them. Wakarusa has been talked about in here a great amount, and probably a decent basis for that guy's line up predictions, you wouldn't know that, because you haven't been following this thread since you aren't even going.

You just wanted to run your mouth, kid.

Flip a tit often? Dude, CoS has Wakarusa as the lead in their festival watch and I thought it was the lineup announcement. I'm in this thread because I'm curious just like you are, not because I want to heckle strangers. And you are correct, I have not read all 18 pages of this thread.

You don't have to try and emasculate me Zimmy, that's silly. I don't want to fight you online. lol

Zimmy misunderstood my post as some sort of presumptuous shit talking to you. I had no idea Waka had been released, then I saw your post and made the correlation.

edit: I'm very very curious about the bands that will be playing between the last weeks in May and early June. Hence my occasional post.

I'm still not happy with the oak canyon ranch location. But you're right, the area of the actual festival is amazing. The problem is that compared to the festival area, the camping area is hell. And the whole event isn't as integrated as it used to be, because of the huge walking distance between the festival and camping. But some people like it that way.

I don't understand why Coachella can't take ques from the Do Lab crew regarding announcing their lineup. Keep it simple. "Tickets go on sale such and such date, lineup will be released the following week." Done and done. No empty rumors from low level KROQ djs, no videos on their homepage once a day, no bullshit blogs with some monk chick trying to convince us of the secret lineup. Just plain and simple and to the point.

i'd love to see some house acts get thrown into the line up. What's the usual brands of music at these festivals. i'm really not familiar with most of the headliners from previous years, so i'm kind of in the dark. i'm more looking forward to the people, and the social environment

Very disappointed. Hopefully my volunteer application goes through because I cannot justify passing up demf and dropping $200 on this. Granted, there's a lot on the lower bit of the poorly designed flyer (last year's was gorgeous) that I am not familiar with. Surprise there is no Modeselektor. How many waka acts did we get? Not even Ana Sia? Wow. Bummer about the Bonobo dj set. I am happy about Baths, eskmo, Claude, and fucking LEE BURRIDGE. His LiB set from last year is one I play on a weekly basis - all 3 hours. I'm definitely catching all of it this year. Also Mimosa, Random Rab and Stephan Jacobs are good in my book.

Zimmy and Alex - any recommendations as far as the lower billed acts go? I'll start researching this weekend. And I did not expect this lineup till Monday so that's a cool surprise.

Although he does tread into the dreaded area known as trance, Nick Warren has impressed me with his mixes. His style is eclectic enough to avoid pigeonholing. Based on what I've heard his sound is progressive house, but I'm sure someone will correct me on that. Check out his Global Underground sets. He used to be part of Way Out West in case anyone is familiar with their work.

Well the dj sets are shitty for Bonobo and Thievery. Last year with Apparat :pulse and Booka... Plus Eliot Lipp, Daedelus, Nosaj.... Again, I'm unfamiliar with a good chunk but off the bat meh. I'm curious to see what everyone decides about this. I still think morning smoke sessions, bloody marys, late night talks and more with everyone sounds great but not if it's gonna set people back financially when they can do something else.

Edit- Frank, where did you find that? Or if someone can tell me where the link is from since I'm on my phone. I see no solid info on the do lab's fb or the lib site

If you lived in Colorado you would understand. Almost every house im at, every party im at, and every festival out here people constantly try jamming Pretty Lights down everyones throat (he is from CO).

His live sets are boring as shit, seen him twice, almost feel asleep twice. Yet for some reason, people think he is a god in the electronic world. LIB is more of a festival that has music than it is a music festival imo. It seems to be more about creation, spontaneity, and self-awareness, than about going to catch big name acts.

I'm sure there are going to be some cool workshops and areas like the tea temple and that place where they had all those, games and stuff. Probably a lot better set-up since this is their 2nd year at this venue

I kind of wanna go to Wakarusa, but I must resist all festivals not called Coachella this year. My Morning Jacket headlining anything (and likely playing 2-3 hours, or more) automatically makes my fan-boy self want to attend.

Also, I enjoyed Pretty Lights when I was stone-cold sober back in December. But what do I know, anyway?

Devin the Dude
03-04-2011, 05:05 PM

Just kidding. Maybe we'll meet up at Waka. I really want to do it. Mostly for the fanboyism you listed, but secondly the electronic lineup. And thirdly being in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

shakermaker113

LiB is much more than a lineup. what they have is kinda weak compared to last year, but good enough to fuel an amazing weekend. crazz made a good point about a weaker lineup allowing more spontaneity.

having said that, I will not be in attendance this year. logistically it is just too difficult. I look forward to returning to LiB some other year though.

zimmy1222
03-04-2011, 07:14 PM
Yeah, the music at LiB is mainly supplemental for me. It doesn't matter who's playing that much because the atmosphere created is overwhelmingly good.

So, starting from Emancipator* down, this is who I'd probably try to catch:

Them* (obv)
Paper Diamond is an Alex B moniker I believe under the Pretty Lights label. Hip hop influence with some leftfield ambiance.
I like Heyoka, new album's pretty good, but he's got some silly noises. Plays a fair amount of dnb though... pyschedelic dnb.

I have a strong feeling that everyone in this forum would love the shit out the invisible allies set. Saw them a couple weekends ago, phenomenal.
Here, drift off for a minute. (Or 10)
L-9OyIlVtdU

Jupiter was great last year.
Love & Light are from Reno. They make a crowd get down and they have more fun than I've seen a dj have in a long time. People love 'em, I'd expect a party at their set.
http://soundcloud.com/love-and-light
Phutureprimitive is playing with Ott in SF soon, haven't listened, but I would check it.
ill-esha is another crowd favorite, she throws it down pretty good with some mid-tempo.

I've heard a couple others and am not really into em, but other than that, I don't know anyone else on the line up.

btw, This poster has 10 less acts on it than last years. I'd only expect a few small adds, maybe one big one that they might be trying to nail down still (a la GMOB last year)

I'd also expect Bluetech to play his own set at some unscheduled time.

Dev, I don't know if you caught this, but Random Rab and the Inifnidroid is a live band featuring Android Jones (probably a live visual thing like I showed you before)

I'm intrigued by Freq Nasty & David Starfire...freq's music now is like maximalism, and starfire, is world dance. could be a lot of fun. Hippies are gonna love it.

In any regard, I plan on being there, this will be insanely fun.

I understand that so much of this festival is about the art and the experience (workshops, the people, etc) but I guess I was just expecting something to grab me more - especially in the upper tier. I am not a fan of Pretty Lights and Beats Antique have been everywhere for a while now. As for Thievery - this is a BAND that has such an elaborate live show and to be billed as a dj set is just kind of laughable to me. I wouldn't consider myself a fan of theirs by any means even though I have seen them several times at festivals but is this really considered headlining material?
kNIFoZS_SKE

Last year's lineup was so much better to me! There are some djs sprinkled throughout that I would love to see but scattered over 3 days it just feels like something is really lacking. My attendance is so up in the air right now and I won't decide for certain until after Monday (hoping there is something up their sleeve), then I'll see about volunteer opportunities (heard it will be 1-2 more weeks), then find out who of my friends are still down to go. With the exception of the dnb/PF at Coachella and Hawtin/Netsky at Beyond - I'm not too excited about festivals this year. (should've saved my money for Bloc) No doubt this will be another memorable weekend but I was really hoping for something more.

I started to research some of the artists I'm unfamiliar with but instead I am getting stuck listening to new 2step and IDM. maybe tomorrow.

I have such mixed feelings about Heyoka. He threw down the best set I saw all of BM. When I got back home I started searchin up his shit. Its just way too goofy and wompy for me to even enjoy in the slightest. While he was dj'ing though, he was throwing down some fire and switching between that psychedelic tech-stepy DnB to dub-step really smoothly. Sounded great.

I knew about 3 names on the poster last year, this time I know about 5. Whatever. I'm not running around crazy with my schedule like I am at Coachella. I was hoping for some Simon Posford though. All the music just blends together after a while anyway. I remember seeing full sets by the amazing EOTO and Booka Shade and the rest I was just dancing around from stage to stage, when I wasn't doing some other really fun thing.

For those on the fence, I really can't recommend it enough. As for the price being raised...what, 15 bucks? It is what it is. This is an intimate festival and even with hardly a line up like Coachella, I felt my money went further there than the clusterfuck that was Coachella '10. It felt much more special. No lines for anything and you can easily get to the front of the crowds if thats your thing. After last year got such incredible feedback I rather worry if LIB will feel overcrowded this year. I guess we will find out.

But seriously, watch the video again and if this looks fun to you get your ass out here.

I was thinking the exact opposite. So Lucent Dossier is to be our Friday headliner/Booka Shade spot?

and the solution to that is to increase price and decrease quality?

completely backwards. Pretty sure I'm out this year.

Downtempo/Leftfield/Ambient music is well represented this year. surprisingly. feather-leathers unite!

I'm probably only going if I get a comp'd ticket somehow.

The thing about this line up (for me), is that I like a good chunk of it, but it's music I've seen plenty of times because I've liked it enough. There is some freshness in here (Nick Warren, Paper Diamond, Invisible Allies, Dub Kirtan could be way way fun), but I was hoping for a lot of acts that I had never seen play live or seen very very little of and want more (like last year).

Regardless of all that though, the lady purchased her ticket, so we're going to be havin ourselves a party at LiB with very few musical commitments. I did that a lot last summer and it worked out really really well.

Worth 200? mmm, we were pretty spoiled with festivals last year (musically). So, musically: it's pushin it.

But it's LiB, so...it's worth it.

oh, well... I don't have a ticket, and have no intention of buying one. But I have other possible options to work at the festival for a vendor or table or something like that (nothing solidified, but I'm planning on attending since my gf got her ticket already).

That will probably make up the two bigger stages, the main, and the bamboo stage (for last year, probably will be different name).

The small (woogie) stage got their line up filled out after the initial drop.

...I think. Can anybody confirm or deny?

I will admit that once the line-up was dropped, I was a bit disappointed, i voiced that on here pretty clearly. Now with some more time to let the line-up soak in, I am very excited for many of the acts.
I am happy to see eskmo on the line-up, I caught him open up for bassnectar back in December. His live show is not something to miss, ripping paper and cracking open beer cans and looping them through out his set, was very entertaining to watch. He also sings for many of his tracks, although it's almost like spoken word, It adds a new layer to his sound.
I just picked up his self tilted off ninjatunes from last year. I cant seem to put it down. Cant wait to see how his live show has progressed from last year!

I agree about ESKMO... his sets are great and he throws down some nasty tracks. I will be in attendance.

Other acts I'm excited for... Emancipator, Bonobo, Blutech... I love them all, but have not seen any of them. I want to see Emancipator at night or at sunset, but if there was a sunrise set that would be one for the ages. Please make it happen LIB.

Had I not seen Thievery 8 or 9 times already I would be more excited. I've seen Rob Garza spin a DJ set, but never both of them so I am actually a little stoked to check out a DJ set, although there live show is really where it's at. Even if you are a little bored with them like me, you can bet your ass they will drop some amazing tracks during their set and there will be mad hotties grinding the whole time.

Kind of the same thoughts on Pretty Lights too. Personally he doesn't excite me too much anymore, but I have never been disappointed by one of his sets and you can bet it will be going off as usual. Fuuk the haters!

Although I may be most excited too actually walk out half way through Thievery and Pretty Lights sets to go check out something else. I'll be choosing my sets more by the vibe this year and not so much by the schedule, and that excites me a lot too.

Never was able to get into Bonobo, although i have heard many good things from friends, where is a good starting point?

I'm glad emancipator and bluetech(invisible allies) are playing as i really wanted to see them but didn't while i was at earthdance.

I'm interested to see what lynx is like, now that she dropped janover and is doing her own thing. I saw lynx and janover a handful of times and lynx will blow you away with her beat boxing skills. Glad to see lowriderz is playing, i missed there set at SOD, but i did catch an-ten-nae at earthdance and he throws down some fire! Also never seen kraddy, is he good live? whats the deal?

And the whole pretty lights thing, i downloaded his three eps from last year, and just about finished listening to them. His music is head bobbing music for sure. I mean its good but it seems like it's missing something..the sounds are fun, but i dont know it's like its to 'clean' for me. if that makes sense. But i did catch half his set at OSL last year, and had alot of fun. Maybe his tracks translate better live(bassnectar is like this for me) I also downloaded paper diamond's ep, he is off pretty lights record label, so the sound is similar. He is fun, there is some cheese to his tracks but i could see his set being fun.

I like Black Sands for Bonobo, but he might play dancey-er stuff at LiB? prob.

Kraddy's pretty fun live, people like to put on their nasty faces for some reason. Nothing to be blown away by, but it'll be a party.

And that's how I feel about PL, I just can't fully immerse myself in the music because there's not enough there to capture me... I'll be at the other stage most likely, or somewhere else entirely.

I think most people have made their peace with seeing Pretty Lights already (and probably annoyed with the amount of rap Pretty Lights gets from random fan-boys across the country) AND are also underwhelmed with Thievery DJ Set and probably wanting to see something else...and Bassnectar would have just been another opportunity for anyone who has already seen him complain...but hey, LiB is somewhat of a repeat-lineup festival right...and more about "the experience"...amirite? I concur. Every hippie fest I've ever been to has been incredible. Earthdance was actually my first festival and was just simply amazing! You really get a whole different vibe; it's more about unity and creating a 1 love atmosphere. Plus hippies tend to party harder than most people can imagine, schooled to the game if you will.
