one of my favorite flylo sets, and he always brings it.

i got the ministry of sound dubstep collection recently, i'm really liking it. a lot. this is my favorite of the bunch C_3eQgBmF1A heard Rusko drop it at electric zoo and it was far better than his original material. love that hard dubstep sound

303dubbin - being in CO did you go to bassnectar's fest this past weekend? i was planning on flying out for it but had to go to washington DC

Fuck dubstep. What an oversaturated genre; frat step, brotronica, dipshit music. Fuck that scene, I want it dead and gone.

i respect your opinion but i can tell you in all sincerity that i am the farthest thing from a frat-stepping brotronic dipshit. i'd bet that most dubstep fans don't fit that description.
i enjoy dubstep because i like listening to precisely sequenced bass heavy music, not to get crunk and 'bro out' like a drunken fool. i don't understand why people hate on the listeners of a genre just because they don't like the music.

that being said, i have to agree with you on it being oversaturated. too many unqualified producers using the bass wobble without any real musical substance underlying it. i can see how that could be annoying, especially for someone who dislikes (or in your case, despises) the genre itself.

FUCK dubstep....its complete garbage.

you're just stating what you feel and i'm not gonna fault anyone for having an opinion about music

however it's lame to try and characterize the listeners of a genre so negatively just because someone isn't a fan themselves. no one should hurl personal insults over something so subjective... calling people outright dipshits on the basis of musical preference is judgmental and totally unnecessary

303dubbin
10-31-2010, 03:23 AM
what i feel is... how many of you are going to let what a bunch of people on the internet say change your choice in music? NONE OF YOU ARE is the answer. i dig this stuff but i listen to a lot of other stuff too and i'm not a douche either. i can see where a lot of the hate comes from but its not entirely necessary. brostep and all that over the top womp isnt the coolest shit on earth, gets annoying after a while. and i will agree that it is getting oversaturated. if you dont like it, dont listen to it. all that old school electonica is awesome too and i love it as well but damn.... honestly, i was just tryin to find some fellow dub lovers. i realize the hate would come though.
its better than glitch music! haha

@daftmau5, yea i did go to that bassnectar fest, i enjoyed it, crowd was wack as fuck but i thought his set was dope. dont ever listen to dan deacon though, haha so fucking stupid.

It's pretty awful over here in America but I won't lie, I do like a lot of what they consider "dub step" music over in Europe. Artists like Scuba and Appleblim aren't too bad, especially a lot of the artists the former brings in for his Substance parties. I also feel they've gone a lot different direction with the sound over there, here it's become the next nu-metal/rap-rock IMO, but over there it's more influence by dub music and garage, not suburban white kids who listened to garbage warped tour music last week.

I would agree that there is an awful lot of terrible music being put out that is labeled as dubstep, but that can be said for any sub-genre of music. I just really enjoy the slowed down dub inspired beat with some heavy bass, and if it sounds like transformers are battling in the background so much the better.

it was more of a blanket statement to everyone who misuses the word "dub." But the person who posted immediately after you just drove my point home.

lindysindie
12-01-2011, 10:20 AM
Except I didn't. Dub is a style of reggea where the beat is slowed down and looped (obviously that is not all that makes something dub but it's the part I was referencing). I said I enjoyed a dub inspired beat in my dubstep, meaning a beat that is slower and unbroken similar to that found in dub. Clearer?

Yea I know what you're saying. Dubstep now is being taken in the wrong direction (i.e. Skrillex, Flux, Doctor P, etc...) It's turning more into a soundtrack for Transformers which gives me a headache. It needs to be taken back to it's darker roots.

dubstep, glitch, grime, laser blaps, 808s whatever the fuck. Alot of people are just starting to use the term "bass music" it's nice because it doesnt have the cheesy bro vibe to the term. Also is more of a umbrella term, for example: someone posted bok bok and zomby. Def not dubstep, but bass music? yes!
edit: at least zomby doesnt make dubstep anymore. dont listen to bok bok but that track wasnt dubstep

You must not know where dubstep originated from then. 140 bpm combination of 2 step/garage and dub. Listen to that track again...

Also, keep the brostep to a minimal in this thread. By minimal I mean not at all...

Sub Focus is dnb. Has nothing to do with brostep (not including his shitty new track Falling Down)... He was insane live at EDC in June.

And that Skream track is brostep haha. He's been going downhill with his newer stuff... Hopefully he'll make a comeback. Seems like it too if he releases that G Funk track he's working on.

Good read.

http://liquido.dk/index.php/12-secret-selector-selections/54-who-killed-dubstep

I actually found the article pretty weak. The author definitely has a strong knowledge of the genre, but it literally just feels like a brostep bash the entire way through. Oh, and I probably hate it as much as this guy does, so don't think I'm trying to defend it.

I also disliked the way author seemed to blame "crappy speakers" causing the abuse of midrange. Crappy speakers have always been around, it's not like they didn't exist in 2006. The abuse of midrange happened simply because people liked the sound. There also seems to be this belief that all brostep has no low end to it. This is just so incorrect. I've heard many brostep tunes with some chest caving bass. It's just unfortunate that it's layered behind tons of screeching noises.

Last but not least, the older style dubstep sound is definitely not dead. 2011 was an absolutely amazing year for the deeper heads. Tons of great releases from very different producers that all fall into the "dubstep" category.

Just my 2 cents though. =b
