My friends and I went to the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium last year to see Daft Punk after we saw them at Coachella. They were staying at our hotel and we partied with their road crew guys until god knows when in the morning and they told us then that they were definitely planning a US tour for 2007 and that they would go to Chicago (where most of us were from) but didn't have any more details than that. Lollapalooza would probably be the sickest thing anyone has ever seen.
Also, Dave Wang.

By the way, Pukkelpop is like Coachella times about 1,000,000,000. Pretty much it's the same thing except beers cost $1, you can walk around smoking dope, there are 2 enormous rave tents and in between the rave tents there is a huge outdoor rave zone with it's own music so that way when you walk from one rave tent to the next you never have to stop raving. Oh, and there are a ton of 15 year old just partying their asses off. And they all sing along to "We Are Your Friends" when Justice plays. So yeah, I'd say it's Dave Wang approved.

03-03-2007, 06:46 PM
Wow we get the Sports Arena. KInda a weird place but it is huge and they hold alot electronic music fests(Monster Massive etc). I'd love to see them at the Greek. Maybe I'll go to both shows.

I don't think concerts are still held at the old Sports Arena. I saw several shows back in the 80's there, but I can't remember the last time I've seen a show advertised there. I would guess it's meant to be the Forum or Staples.

That's true, it's hard to go wrong with daft punk but the thing is last time I was at the sports arena I watched a bunch of guys beat up this one guy on the dance floor to the beat of the of the DJ that was on. That didn't really appeal to me.

Also, how is that everyone on every board/blog/website has insider information? Either they know someone, or are related to someone, or work for someone?? And why is it they always want to spill it on a public board? I'm not saying this information is accurate or inaccurate. I am just curious how it seems this happens every day in message board posts.

I suppose if you mention enough information about half of it is bound to be accurate. I could just easily list a bunch of bands and chances are some off them will probably play a festival later this year...

malcolmjamalawesome
03-03-2007, 07:39 PM
They were beating someone up to the beat of a song? Dave Wang hopes it wasn't a Drums N Bass set.

well my source came from one of our very own board members who has direct contact with Daft Punk's manager Busy P (Pedro Winters). I would say his screen name, but I figure I'll save him the harassment and let him speak out on his own, if he should choose to.

Just out of curiousity, how do all of you guys afford to go to all these festivals? Going to Belgium, ireland, CA, Chicago, london, milwaukie? Plane tickets, hotels, concert tickets, food that has to add up to a large dollar amount. My plan for when I graduate and get a job is to set up a little concert fund for myself each year. The year I graduate, I am sending myself to Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Pukkelpop or Oxegen, Sasquatch and ACL. I've been to the sports arena about 10 times or so for raves.. and tiesto in concert.. the venue is not bad, i'm just a little tired of it.. It would be cooler if they did a huge outdoor show at the coliseum.. but I don't think even Daft Punk could fill up that place. The only thing is the will have floor seats, which I will buy, I don't give a fuck how high the ticket prices are, or you can seat in the stands above. If you are going to see them, you have to get floor seats.

i dont think they will...when initial line up was announced and the poster was up, i emailed PF about it and they said they were trying to confirm it. I was pretty sure that if it's on the coachella poster it's true...i dont think they're ones to take rumors as fact

I think he's probably referring to the Wamu Theater at Qwest Field. The Killers, Iggy and the Stooges and others are playing there in the coming months. Holds up to 7,000 when they pull most of the seats. It's really the only place in Seattle that I could think of that would work for a Daft Punk show... The Paramount/Moore theaters don't have enough floor space, and I think Key Arena would be too big...

By the way, Pukkelpop is like Coachella times about 1,000,000,000. Pretty much it's the same thing except beers cost $1, drugs are super cheap, you can walk around smoking dope, there are 2 enormous rave tents and in between the rave tents there is a huge outdoor rave zone with it's own music so that way when you walk from one rave tent to the next you never have to stop raving. Oh, and there are a ton of 15 year old just partying their asses off. And they all sing along to "We Are Your Friends" when Justice plays. So yeah, I'd say it's Dave Wang approved.

LA- Sports Arena 7/21
Berkeley- Greek Theatre 7/27
Seattle- Wamu Center 7/29
Denver- Red Rocks 7/31
Chicago- Lollapolloza 8/3
Toronto- Arrow Hall 8/5

I believe this is true, simply because this poster has not posted any wild or crazy rumors(that have not come true),and the venues/dates are so specific and make sense(ie weekend dates in LA,SF,and Chicago). It's not unreasonable to think they enjoyed their 2 shows in the US last year, and would be willing to visit again.

Listen, I think Daft Punk has more talant but don't flatter yourself by thinking they are the second coming of christ. They spin records and use vintage equipment to recreate sounds. They are THE BEST at what they do. However, they are not any better or worse musicians than ICP!

It is entirely possible that space between dates are set aside for possible sell-outs and thus additional shows: DP has only rarely toured, so the booking agents have little to go on; its not as if they're the Rolling Stones, who have turned touring into a science (and money-making one at that)!

Keyspan Park? A baseball stadium? Weird.

Has anyone actually been to the LA Sports Arena? How is it?

I saw Madonna at the Sports Arena back in 1990 and its like any other arena but i guess its on the smaller side.

Isnt the sports arena where all those monster massive type of events go on?

Red Rocks will be the place to see this show. In fact I can only guess that it is the only reason they will be coming anywhere near Colorado. I saw Fatboy Slim open for the Chemical Brothers there about 5 years ago and this venue is perfect for Daft Punk plus so many other famous shows have happened there...the history of Red Rocks is incredible and an unbelievable place to see a show...

really? i mean i know its an epic place with a lot of history, and ive always wanted to see a show there, but for a dance act, i dont know. its bleachers...wouldnt daft punk be better with a big open floor for dancing, not bleachers?

I think he's probably referring to the Wamu Theater at Qwest Field. The Killers, Iggy and the Stooges and others are playing there in the coming months. Holds up to 7,000 when they pull most of the seats. It's really the only place in Seattle that I could think of that would work for a Daft Punk show... The Paramount/Moore theaters don't have enough floor space, and I think Key Arena would be too big...

Thanks for clearin' that up. I'm not originally from Seattle, so I wasnt familiar with the "venue".

moron. if you need e and lsd and pot to enjoy daft punk, i feel real sorry for you.

don't get me wrong, i was under the influence of at least two of those substances during the daft punk set, but i would never say i needed those substances to enjoy he show.

never said I needed it to enjoy the show. I don't do E every week or month, Coachella, is my yearly roll, and has been that way for 3 years since I "stopped" using lots of crazy drugs and alcohol.

All I stated in that response, and in numerous other posts, is that using these things to enhance a once in a life time thing is fun, when applied properly can have a prolific long lasting affect on a persons well being. Why do you think Shrinks were lobbying congress not to schedule it as a schedule 1.

I also have mentioned before that I just so happend to be approached by a random stranger who said "do you know anybody who needs anything?" I was rolling balls and Daft Punk was about to come on, they had already pealed back the curtain. I knew this shit was going to be epic. So I told her I wanted some of the sweet 25 and just so happends it was a very potent blotter.

Daft Punk was epic, so don't hate because I had a better time than you.

I've never been, but isn't Arrow Hall some sort of airplane hargar type environment? the most logical would be a good open space, is there anywhere better (or less scenic?) in Toronto for them to play? this stops me from lulzapaloozing.

I would have also accepted "you're an idiot"

The fact that people are still talking about the Daft Punk performance from Coachella almost a whole year after the show makes it something other than just an epic concert. And more than likely people will still be talking about that performace a year from now.

people will be talking about that performance 50 years from now.

i bet in 20 years, everyone will claim they saw that performance live.

Yeah I thought that too before I saw the Chem's there but it really wasn't an issue. It's a large venue but has a very intimate kind of feel though. The light show was nuts. They had to get FAA approval because the lights shined up so high that they didn't want to confuse airplane pilots that might have been flying around the area. Crazy I know but you'd have to see it to believe it. If anyone has the Chemical Brothers DVD that's out, there is a bunch of footage from their Red Rocks show and they say it was one of the most incredible venues they've ever played. Needless to say, it's going to be a long wait until July, plus I was so impressed with Daft Punk last year at Coachella, it's going to be a hard standard to live up to.

More news on tour:

Daft Punk will be in Charlottesville, VA, on Friday, April 13th, at the John Paul Jones Arena (UVA's stadium). I heard this news through a friend of mine who goes to UVA. They were supposed to play in Boston but rescheduled or cancelled.

So it's safe to say, more tour dates our coming our way in the future.

Tickets are actually already on sale (quite expensive), but this hasnt been announced on their official site or anywhere else for that matter.

I'll be going to this one though...only an hour away from my house!!

The sports arena isn't too bad. My friends dragged me to Tiesto in concert there and the venue was good. The show was a pretty large production. I dont think it would be that bad if theyu played there.

Rather sure this is where that Dave Wang character jumps and reminds everyone that not only does Tiesto produce some of the shittiest music ever made, but that all trance is dead and will remain that way..
