There aren't really any bigger venues for them to play, except Coachella or Dodgers Stadium. 18,000 capacity, hello? Staples Center holds 20,000, yes, but that's only when they also sell tickets for seats behind the stage. Only greedy people like Madonna and the Rolling Stones do that. When Radiohead or Coldplay or Tool plays Madison Square Garden, the capacity goes down to around 14,000 because of this limitation.

Well, they did come to Vancouver in support of Amnesiac, but I dont think they came after Hail To The Theif. But when they came for the Amnesiac tour they played in a field instead of a stadium. I believe they actually played 2 shows actually. So maybe they will play in Vancouver on this tour.

Ouch. I just midread something. I thought I read somewhere it has an 8,000 capacity. But I was told it has an 18,000 capacity, 14,000 for concerts.

Very clever, mentioning masterbating (?) ... Hoo boy, you got me there!!!!

And it's not like you even TRIED to make it look good. It would've taken 5 seconds to find a rapture logo and paste it onto that document, but you took the extra step to actually MS-PAINT the freakin thing. Time that should've been spent trying to pass 3rd grade English.

Dude. I was just kidding around! Don't take everything so seriously haha.
And I told you, I was bored. And I actually did rip a Rapture logo from thier CD. But it was orange and the rest of the poster was red. So I has to make it red. All I had on the computer I was working on was paint in a matter of fact. So I colour matched it to the Daft Punk logo and coloured it in. So yes. It made that on paint. No wonder it doesnt look great. I was just saying... I was bored when I made it.

Well I just re-read my post, and I did sound kind of harsh haha. Sorry about that.
What I meant to mean was, people here are saying it is not that hard to edit. So I was asking why not some other people make a poster? Meaning, you or anyone else. When/If I do re-edit mine. It will be on paint... cuz I dont know how to do it any other way either haha.
I was just jelous of the LA show poster... and the only poster I could find with the Rapture on it... was teeny-tiny. I wanted a decent sized one.
So I got a Rapture logo. Put it in paint, resized it, coloured it in red, then put on the poster. Done, done and done. And even though it didnt look great, I decided to post it here anyways, so anyone could grab it if they wanted it. If it wasnt good enough, I figured they would re-edit it themselves.
But when Im less lazy and dont have an exam to study for (like the one of I have in a couple hours) I might go back to re-work on it.
Sorry for sounding so harsh again. Damn internet.

That is an AWFUL song. But that is also a NEW song. Their new stuff is attrocious. Do NOT listen to it.

the possible rumor i was talking about is radiohead at the Gore concert in London on 07/07/07...I still cant get a solid confirm but I believe the lineup is being announced tomorrow in the NY Times so we shall find out then

From the line up I see... Id be interesting in watching Roger Waters, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Police. Oh, and Bon Jovi... heh heh. Oh wait, Thats the US show. The London one is much better. Bestie Boys, Block Party, Duran Duran, Foo Fighters, Genesis and RHCP. Radiohead would make that amazing though.

not that I mean to encourage the off-topic discussion, but filter posted a great quote about the live earth performers...

"Madonna's Confessions tour produced 440 tonnes of CO2 in four months of last year. And that was just the flights between the countries, not taking into account the truckloads of equipment needed, the power to stage such a show and the transport of all the thousands of fans getting to the gigs. The Red Hot Chili Peppers produced 220 tonnes of CO2 with their private jet alone over six months on their last world tour which was 42 dates. The average a British person produces is 10 tonnes a year. We should now keep a close eye on whether Madonna and the others makes any changes to their own lifestyle." said John Buckley, managing director-of CarbonFootprint.com

it's not that I'm proud, i saw this performance on snl. but if this is how a band chooses to represent themselves in the present, that's a clear signal for me to stay far away.

The lineups are up on the Live Earth site but notice how the London show is the only one (of the two) that says "Additional performers will be announced at a future date." I will continue to see if Radiohead is playing. Comparing the US show to the UK one the US has Roger Waters, the Pumpkins, and the Police 3 Legit big headliners where the UK one has the Peppers, Madonna, and Beastie Boys. The UK show is definetely missing a little something in terms of headlining power in comparison to the US...

i disagree re: "up thom's alley"....this type of event is just the type of contrived celebrity-dominated type of event that radiohead often shy away from...

That was all free, they are charging for this one so you know that money is going somewhere at least. All the acts who did Live Aid got kick backs and stuff after it was all said and done with. I still think they do it. Other than that what other suprise can be thrust upon us? Another tour? Thats expected of them so its not totally shocking. Having Radiohead added after the concerts sell out tomorrow would be the crazy thing. Ulness, its a big addition to Friday that we never saw coming and ITS NOT The Police.

Right after Depeche Mode ended and countless thousands of people such as myself migrated over from the Coachella Stage to the Dance Tent to see them it seemed like the perfect ending show. when i said ghetto i was more talking about the venue itself, not the area that its in. sports arenas are notoriously shitty places to see shows in general. the acoustics always suck ass, and the atmosphere is just not as cool as outdoor venues. that being said, it will be nice to have an open floor to dance around in instead of bleachers cuz im guessing ill be so out of my mind that falling over into the people in front of me would be a definite possibility if i were at red rocks. the ideal place in so cal for the pyramid would be the embarcadero in san diego. now THAT would be legendary.

for anyone going to the Berkeley show...

I was a little concerned about the advertised start time of 8 pm when the venue has an 11 pm curfew. 4 performers in 3 hours? not likely. so I emailed another planet, who were ENTIRELY sympathetic and helpful, and responded with the following information:

I totally understand your concern, so I looked into it and here's the plan. The Rapture will start at 8PM, and then during the set change, Sebastian and Kavinsky will both be spinning. Then, Daft Punk. They should have well over an hour, and probably close to 90 minutes.
...
If you're wondering, the reason for the curfew at the Greek is the deal between the University and the local residents there, who (understandably) don't want music playing too late into the night every week. This is the same reason that shows at the Greek are (unless special exceptions are made) only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons.

so there you have it. I do hope it is closer to 90 minutes than an hour -- I still think the LA gig is a better situation -- but at least they have put some thought into this. I like another planet. they are good people. I wouldn't have expected this from clear channel.

suprefan
05-10-2007, 09:09 PM
So Sebastian and Kavinsky only get like 45 mins to spin then which kind of sucks. Rapture goes for like 45 and then DP goes on at about 9:30 to finish at 11 give or take.

I'm not sure...I think I prefer my techno indoors, but there's no question The Greek is a better venue I'm just not sure if its the better venue for Daft Punk.

What's the difference?

there are a million differences, it's like going to a red hot chili peppers show and being all like "FUCK YES DEATH METAL!"

first of all "techno" tends to be a catch-all frat boys use for anything with electronic elements. like, fuck that daft punk techno shit, put on some strung out, nawmean.

but it's actually its own genre. as much as I hate to reference ishkur, he has a fairly good idea of what he's talking about so click http://www.di.fm/edmguide/ and go to house/techno and see what the deal is.

I'm not a frat boy. I use "techno" as a catch-all term because I'm not hip to all the dance genres. What should we use as the all-encompassing term for dance music, o knowledgable one?

summerkid

EDM, but a lot of people use techno and EDM interchangeably even though its incorrect.

so yes...I still stand by my original comment that the show at the greek will blow doors on that gigantic arena...I love outdoor parties!!!

i mean, call it whatever you want, but techno is the name for a specific type of electronic music and calling daft punk or vengaboys techno is just wrong and might confuse fools

look either way i'm basically going to mosh to daft punk in about two months. fuck yes doggies.

oh please, pointing out a difference between "techno" and "house" is far from pretentious. if you want pretentious we can talk about two-step psy-trance with dub influences as opposed to dubstep-influenced psy-trance with gabber influences.

Sound is so much better outdoors, too. Being stuck all the way in the back at the Greek or Hollywood Bowl = can still hear well. Being stuck in the back at a lesser distance at the Forum for Muse = can't hear vocals in half the songs.
