So this was from tonight, the brit awards.
I take it that this stage set-up is from her upcoming tour, GLOW IN THE DARK with kanye
Does something look a little familiar???

Having Daft come out at the Grammys just to do a fucking 20 second solo of KANYE'S sample of their song instead of actually having them drop into the climax of Harder from Alive 2007 was rude. Daft agreeing to do it is, frankly, embarasses me for them. They should have more dignity than that. They let Kanye sample their shit (which was a sample anyway, so they can't be too high-handed about it) is one thing--letting him rip off the brilliance they unleashed is even worse, and getting all dressed up just to reprise the LED suits for a little closeup of their video screen in the pyramid while they did a vastly inferior version of their tune just compounds it all to a level that pains me.

I don't get it. why have the kalxons perform with her? were they actually doing anything? it didn't sound like much.

I wouldn't say she stole the pyramid scheme. it's definitely inspired by daft punk's pyramid, but in the end it's just the use of triangles that she's borrowed. the pyramid isn't solid with screens for walls, there's no grid, most of the lights are done with lasers instead, and the images in the background are totally unique (again, apart from the traingle/pyramid shapes).

it's a nice homage. look how much of an impact that one tour has had on other people's shows.

ever think that Daft Punk actually likes Kanye's version? and kanye as an artist? If they didn't they wouldn't have let him use it. exhibit a. Will.I.am being denied by daft punk.

http://www.thedailyswarm.com/swarm/daft-punk-william-not-my-momma/

Daft Punk more than likely respects and likes Kanye and I'd be willing to bet they produce one song on his next album.

Robototron
02-21-2008, 12:08 PM
They approved Kanye's sample because he, dare I say it, made decent use of it. The Stronger loop is pretty much the basis of the entire rest of the song. Even if the rest of it, including the beat, is pretty standard, it's a much more interesting sample than Will.I.Am used. Will.I.am just borrowed the entire beat from Around the World, rapped over it, and then ripped of their videos.

They do like the song, they played it in their Louis Vuitton S/S08 DJ set. Who knows if they "respect" him, but they wouldn't have done all this if they didn't at least like his song. It sucks major ass that Kanye is ripping them off entirely now for the glow in the dark tour, but whatever, everyone knows the guy is a gigantic asshole anyway. It doesn't really matter anyway, since everyone who actually cares about music already knows that Daft Punk did it first. Kind of like how he ripped off the D.A.N.C.E video to make his for The Good Life.

Also, the Klaxons/Rihanna duet is far, far worse than I was initially expecting. Klaxons have done some fun covers so I thought it would be them playing it and then having her come out half way through to do the rest of it or something like that, not them playing a poorly mixed guitar version (seriously, who heard anything except the drums?) and singing backup.

thelastgreatman
02-21-2008, 12:29 PM
Daft being stingy about people sampling them would be at best hypocritical. Anybody else think that maybe Kanye just offered WAY more money than Will.I.Am? Also, Will.I.Am is a douchebag with an annoying name to type and a mulatto who dances like a ninja in his fucking hip-hop group. That could also be a problem.

yeah they limit the number of users. I remember when the daft punk coachella bootleg first came out it was only available on dime, and I had the same problem -- couldn't register. you just have to keep trying, eventually you'll get lucky. I just went and read posts from 7/20/07 - 7/22/07. I was there in LA, and it was so awesome going back and reading everyone who felt the SAME way i did. It just completely made my day to relive that night, watch some clips, and be overall pumped that i was there, and ALIVE.

Simply stunning. Vegoose was the shit too, but there was something really special that night int he arena. Whatever, i fucking love daft.

I definitely loved the vegoose show over the la show. Everyone around me at the LA show were just barely moving, my friends said the same where they were. Its funny once we got on the floor all six of us went in different directions. Show was great but crowd sucked.

I liked that new people got exposed to Daft that ordinarily wouldnt know who they were at vegoose too. It was fun to hear them talking about them in amazement.

CalmerThanYou

I literally saw people stumbling around after the show with their hands on their heads, faces full of bewilderment, just saying repeatedly, "What the fuck? What the fuck? What in the fuck was that?" Just as though a bomb had gone off...

I loved that aspect too. The dancing where i was (right under the jumbotron on the floor smack in the middle) in LA was dope. Or at least my group was raging as hard as we could.

Vegoose = Danced the fuck out. Fucking A did we rage. I love both equal, like children, just different memories of each. Children that you roll face while raising, but then the children end up to be Robots in a pyramid that steal your soul, then turn your soul into a string of binary code. 1010010100101010010011

Roger that. I really dont even try anymore, i have almost cataloged those two shows into a different part of my brain so they dont interfere with new memories, because as those of us that were lucky enough to be there know, there may not be anything else that amazing and special. If you try to compare them to any other show, its simply not fair, and you are doing yourself an injustice.

For fun i went and read back (i wasnt a member then, just hardcore lurker) and read the day before, then, and after of all of your wild rants and raves from the two shows i went to (la and vegoose), and all the excitement and anticipation was so fucking awesome.

I will never forget the Monday after the LA show when they released the Vegoose line up...i nearly cried.

All I can say in all my years of concert going, I've never seen it where EVERYBODY was moving in the arena like they were in L.A...I wouldn't be suprised if someone on the outside had told me that the whole fucking arena was bouncing when Daft Punk was playing!

Exactly. Right when the Technologic acapella stopped and the beat dropped back in...I thought the whole place was going to collapse. Pure sillyness...

I had a dream last night that i was walking through the polo fields at this years coachella, when every speaker in the whole venue made a scratching sound, then ONE MORE TIME fired up...

Everyone was hysterical and in chaos, no one knew what to do. Everyone threw up the pyramid hand sign, and all the bands put down their instruments. then next thing you knew out of the main stage a pyramid rose. It was about 3x's bigger than the one they used on the tour, and then the whole place erupted. People crying, screaming, and EVERYONE was dancing. All of the bands jumped off stage and ran to the stage...

Then i woke up.

But fuck...it was amazing.

um... from wikipedia:

Starting on September 13 and ending November 9, 2004, Daft Punk devoted six weeks[16] to creating new material. The duo released the album Human After All in March 2005

human after all was done in six weeks. it was six months between starting work on the album and its release.

and before you ask, wikipedia's source is the human after all liner notes. I don't have them at hand to verify, but if it's in there then it's pretty legit.

They don't exactly reinvent themselves either. I don't think either one of you--nor any of us--are in any place to be speculating whether or not they're going to be "taking their time," or how much time it takes to be taking your time (3 years is fucking plenty), and basically any opinions you might have on whether or not they could release around the end of the year are complete and utter horseshit conjecture.

The arguments are the result of completely unfounded conjecture being bandied about as if the posters had a fucking clue when they almost certainly have absolutely no more than anyone else. Pointless arguments grow out of baseless speculation.

they arent throwing up the pyramid here, its a diamond.

from people magazine:

A BLING THING

In New York City, Tom Cruise and Kanye West throw up a diamond – the hand sign for West's label, Roc-A-Fella Records – before an appearance on BET and a screening of Mission: Impossible 3 on Wednesday. The rapper says of his song "Impossible," written for the movie: "You just can't tell Tom Cruise no."

The website that has all of those pictures is from an old post starting on page 268. I can't take any credit for this. I just saved the website on my computer. Here's the old post so you guys can check out the website. It's probably one of the coolest picture pages ever...

Big thanks to Carlito and friends for such awesome pictures...

http://www.hobogestapo.com/galleries/071214sacrificeonthebangalter/071214sacrificeonthebangalter026.jpg

GREETINGS.

I was the nefarious individual who took the photos of Daft Punk in Sydney that were posted earlier in the thread.

The guy that got up (who I snapped as "HUMAN" flashed up on the back screen) tried to get behind the Pyramid by going between the gap from the left grid and left side of the pyramid. There are lights there so he couldn't get through so he ran to the left side of the stage before getting crash tackled and dragged off.

I also shot them in Melbourne and have even closer pictures of the Pyramid (http://www.hobogestapo.com/gallery.cfm?id=325). Because of the large amount of exposure we're getting we've put all the Daft galleries into a central repository of evil.

Check them out here (http://www.hobogestapo.com/pages.cfm?id=85).

All I'd ask is that you help spread the word about the photos and if you're willing, help us get some more exposure. I've had a lot of positive feedback from them and I want as many people to view them as possible.

I'm flying from Australia to Coachella to cover the festival this year and am looking forward to shooting in the States. If any of you have connections with magazines that actually have a photography budget I'd be interested in talking!

Cheers,

Carlito.
