Before the show, Face to Face was one of my least favorite Daft Punk songs. Since the show... it has quickly become one of my favorites. One of my favorite parts of the show actually.

They do such a great job fleshing this songs out live it is amazing. I never really cared for Robot Rock until after the show.

Just got back from lolla a few hours ago. I really loved their show friday night. When LCD ended, singer dude just pointed over to the main stage and said, ok go over there now, Daft Punk! and the sea of people walking over plus the already sea of people at the main stage was enormous. I only had my cell to take pics.. tried to get some of the view from the stage to the crowd but they didnt turn out very well. Awesome show, can't wait for vegoose.

Cool pics.
I just can't express how awesome red rocks is. It is now my go-to venue of choice!
And seeing Daft there just made it all the more special.
After the show, my friend and I were hanging around the stage area for a while "waiting for someone" til they made us leave. Haha.
It's amazing how quickly they take the set down.
And I noticed that the LED backdrop is not like panels, its like this thick fabric with lights in them. They pretty much just fold it or roll it up nicely.
It was also slightly amusing seeing some of the roadies simply roll the pyramid backwards as it is on wheels.
I'll post my pics soon.

back from the Toronto show and WOW...awesome awesome awesome

i will say that i was disappointed with the venue (turn all the fucking lights off please!) but that was a minor annoyance...DP brought it and brought it hard - i was most impressed with the new mixing of DaFunk, very nice...

nothing can compare with the mix of nature/people pics on the pyramid at the end and during the encore - that was an unbelievably beautiful and emotional piece...

I totally agree with this. And this is exactly why I was even more frusturated with SebastiAn and Kavinsky at the afterparties. They played the same damn songs that they did during the opening act before Daft Punk. You know a DJ is talented when the have good spontaneous selection and mixing. But it seemed Kavinsky and SebastiAn played straight from their playbook.

Also, Kavinsky shouldn't be mixing anyways.

ficklecycle
08-07-2007, 03:12 PM
Variety is always good but it's not like if Daft changed the set, we would hear completely different songs. I'm fine with them just adding an extra 10-15 minutes spread out through the set like they did this time around.

Brittmeiser
08-07-2007, 03:24 PM
Of course we would hear the same songs. But we could hear them with different mixes, synths, filters, etc. I don't care if it's the same songs it's just I want spontaneity with them. I want to see them all I can(who the hell knows when they tour again.) but I just get sad because I know EXACTLY what will happen after that.

Know what I'm sayin'? :(

ficklecycle
08-07-2007, 03:26 PM
I understand. I kinda felt like this that time around but I was just really grateful that I had another chance to see them after Coachella that wouldn't require me traveling for hours.

I'd love new stuff but to be honest, I'd take almost anything.

They do have a lot of music though, maybe they can just make the set longer.

Brittmeiser
08-07-2007, 03:30 PM
I just want them to let the whole fucking song of Digital Love to play without tweaking so we can sing the lyrics. That would be such a good time.

Brittmeiser
08-07-2007, 03:33 PM
I always thought Robot Rock was the weakest track of all time (I heard the breakwater song first.) and it still blew me away live.

Anything would probably sound good.

I guess I'm the only one who wants to hear "Make Love" as one of the "Calm your happy ass down before you die from dancing so hard" tracks, too.

I think daft punk is better than that and it breaks my heart because everytime I look at all my daft punk stuff I just think of how great they could really be. And I think, "man if only I could meet them and tell them all my ideas" and show them how much better they are. Because the jizz on my pants has not dried yet from the last time I rubbed one out to the Bercy bootleg I need to head over to the Coachella message board and show everyone how big of a fan I really am.

I think after this is all done, and they make an album and possibly tour that they think of a whoel other thing. Now on this I would disagree. Unless you can point me to a band that has completely different setlists every night because I dont know one. I think most bands have a setlist that can only be tweaked on the edges for two reasons:

A. Because of the technical difficulties (with lights and stage props).

B. Because the band plays songs that they are into at the moment and want you to experience the songs as they have presented in that order and would like as many people to share in that experience.

I have never seen a great band play different setlists from one night to the next. Not Led Zeppelin, not Pink Floyd, not Tool, not Daft Punk.

I think you put Daft Punk on too high of a pedestal. They are human after all.

I definitely agree with Crazzz on this one, despite how much I love Daft Punk, it does suck to have the same set list every single fucking night, particularly for the really big fans that travel thousands of miles across the country with them to see every single show. It's very underwhelming to see a band that you like a couple of times and notice that they played the same set list every time you saw them, the last time this happened to me was when I saw Coldplay a few times on their last tour, before the tour started I liked them as a band, by the time it ended I lost almost all respect for them from a creative stand point.

Most bands keep the same set list for the whole tour, Daft Punk just started this tour two months ago, and Yes the show almost the same as the coachella show, but is not like they are playing at the same venues over and over with the same set, the tour is going to cities where they haven't played with poeple going to see daft punk for the first time.

If they come back to LA or Coachella with the exact same show then we can talk shit about this.

This is a really complex show, is not like they are using turntables and a big screen.

what are you talking about? no they don't. it may be 80% the same songs, but not 100%. shit, even acts like madonna and brittney spears don't play the same songs in the same order every night.

and remember, this is ELECTRONIC MUSIC. they are not a live band. it's much easier to mix things up when you have all the elements on a computer.

08-07-2007, 05:40 PM
have you seen the back of that pyramid, the DP show is really complex, is not like they can add a song and change the order and then program the lights again and then have everything perfect for the next show.
And yes they are playing live.

Britney and Madonna rehearse their shows for months before going on tour, pretty sure all their shows are 99% similar.

playing a live electronic set is NOT the same as a live band. i don't think you understand.

plus the lights are synched to the music. it's not that complicated. DP does not control the lights. they have specialists who do it for them.

I think the definition of fanboy should be extended to someone who is constantly never satisfied with the live show of their favorite band (whether it be setlist or stage setup or whatever). I saw the same thing last year when Tool began touring again. And I think I can safely say that Tool has a more hardcore and larger "fanboy-ish" fanbase than daft punk. I am so sick of this. Just be happy that for some moment or series of moments you got to experience your favorite band in a live setting. Appreciate the fact that those moments are fleeting (at best) and that your favorite band won't be around forever.

Thats right man. I would pay to see the same daft punk show a million times in a row. Because I think that seeing Daft Punk is better than almost any group out there at this point and thats my opinion. And I don't care if they switch it up or if they dont because I appreciate the fact that I saw them. So if you traveled 1000 miles and spent 10000 dollars to see 6 daft punk shows and are bitching about all the shows being the same you should shut the fuck up because 99.99% of the people in the audience at any show have not seen more than one show and its all new to them. The stage fits exactly two robots and that's it. Nobody stands in front of the lights (like at a Girl Talk show).

But I hear they're really weak live.

Well, I have actually seen them live, and like most sane people, I would have to say that their live performance, atleast at COACHELLA 06, was not only gut-bustingly epic as hell, but no other concerts or festivals I have been to since then could top off how SHEERLY AMAZING THEY WERE THAT NIGHT!!!!!!!! Take my word for it; they are one of the GREATEST AND MOST EPIC LIVE BANDS EVERRRRRRRRRRR

Two things:

1) Seriously, WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE BOOTLEGS? Yes, yes, we've all heard the Bercy bootleg. But what the fuck, Americans? Why weren't one of you non-drug-using fuckos taping this shit?

Supre, what happened to the plan for the ultimate Berkeley bootleg?

Menik, hasn't anybody in your bizarre secret network of bootleggers put something together? There's been several shows already now.

2) Seriously, this thread has deteriorated brutally. It's nothing but wordier equivalents of the guys who just go "WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" over and over at concerts, which gave crazzz a justification to start another one of these arguments where the respective sides just call each other dumb back and forth. Lame, gentlemen, fucking lame.

Think there's any chance you guys will feel a sudden urge to start restricting posts to when you actually have something worth sharing aside from monosyllabic praise or quotes?

Those robots put together possibly the most ingenious live performance concept in history, let's try to keep their thread respectable.

Hey man, I'm with you. But apparently, I can't go two fucking posts without having some fucking asshole come ridicule me because I like to exaggerate my opinions by saying the word EPIC.

well, after 5473 posts there's basically nothing left to say. they keep playing the same show over and over, so that gives us even less to talk about.

you are ridicule worthy.

anyone who posts 100 times a day without saying anything relevant or bringing anything to the table is ridiculous.

they can refer to themselves however they want. that doesn't change the fact that they are not a band.

i'm sure Fall Out Boy refer to themselves as a talented band. you see where i'm going with this.

I looked at the Vegoose site and if I'm reading this correctly, AUDIO RECORDING EQUIPMENT is ALLOWED at the festival....

Take that information as you will people..........

I mean, its not hard to sneak a recorder into the shows (red rocks and Wamu theatre security wasn't THAT thoro with their search).

Just saying.

I can't believe The Bold Captain hasn't popped up at any of these shows to make another awesome bootleg....
but what're you gonna do?

I would hope that if he attended another show, he would be able to enjoy it without the restraints of recording equipment. :-) he's paid his dues for life as far as I'm concerned.
