if you wear that shirt, it should be an unwritten law that if anybody comments on it in a good way, you must automatically recognize that they are as cool (if not cooler) than you and not only get excited to talk about your shared experience, but also give them the look that says, "you know whats up. you have good taste in music, and we have something in common, we both experienced an amazing night in music!"

100% fuckin-A right. What a dumb bitch. I would just be stoked that a total stranger walking by me was at the same epic show as I was. I'm thinking I'm gonna wear my Alive/Pyramid shirt to the Justice show. That will be a no brainer conversation starter.

i know, i wore mine out to the bars last week, and i was curious if anybody would comment on it. i mean, obviously, if they say anything, its cuz they were there. so i was thinkin, what are the odds of somebody in pacific beach being at that show. i figured it was slim, and of course, nobody said anything. i just know if they did i would have been stoked to talk to a real person about how cool it was, instead of being on this fuckin message board all day to do that. i have like 3 people in real life that know, my chick, and my buddy who came with us. everybody else just wouldnt understand. thats why i couldnt believe it when i saw this chick she just wasnt very excited. whatever, i should cock slapped her, but i was in a good mood, so i was polite instead. ;)

LMAO!!! Yeah I dunno about Pacific Beach. People there don't really strike me as the Daft Punk type. Just my stereotypical opinion.

I know what you mean to talk to someone about that. You would instantly be friends with that person because of the experience you shared. I only three people in real life that were at Berkeley and well..ours is pretty much limited to myspace comments. Nobody at my work understands. I hate the gaslamp its always waaaayyy too expensive.

My favorite place to hang out is on Washington right off the 5 where Sushi Deli #1 is. There is a sweet bar called CJ's right next to it. We used to go to Sushi Deli all the time and wait outside with all the other idiots. Then we realized that we could put our name on the list and go to the bar while we waited. Then we realized we could just get our food to go and eat in the bar.
Oh my god I would kill for some tuna poppers from sushi deli right now.

Whatever. That solo is amazing! I must find what song they sampled it from.

Another thing, I do realize that Daft Punks music is mainly samples and taken from other songs. However, the songs sound a lot more "updated" in Daft Punks version. Like it was completely rerecorded. For example, the background music for Harder, Better, Faster,Strong and Crescendolls. I dont know though. I dont know much about electronic music.

I told their manager, "heres how it would be. its going to be in the dance tnet, and its going to be legendary. ill do anythign i need to do, tell me what we need to build. anything." they put that whole pyramid thing together. but it took a lot of money to get that going. the cynic in you thinks, "well maybe we offered too much money" but i realize what it was. we offered enough for them to make the pyramid, and thats what it was all about. They spent every single dime on that production. They walked away from that show without a dollar from what we paid them. Thats true art.

People are retarded. It's like all the phillistines who stayed at the main stage during the whole hour between JAMC and Interpol instead of seeing Jarvis Cocker. Yeah, ignoring the fact that Interpol only had one great album and only plays a few songs from it, they constantly tour and are not a good live act, anyway. 08-02-2007, 03:04 PM
ok. but they could have gotten the same reception at some huge festival in europe. it just so happens that this was the festival they played first. any huge festival that they were coming out for the first time in however many years would give the same huge response

crazzz2007

i actually think coachella was the perfect festival for their debut.

plus that recording from coachella helped spread the word like crazy.

crazzz2007

and it was coachella that paid for the pyramid.

this is a discussion, not an argument.

if any other festival could have done it, why did daft punk pick coachella? because they know it is the premier festival in the US if not the world.

coachella went after them for years, and finally got em.

superfiction
08-02-2007, 03:25 PM
it comes down to a combination of timing and the right price.

coachella was willing to do anything. and daft was ready to come out.

why not make it a win win for everyone

I wonder how much it cost to build that pyramid. $$ well spent. No wonder they kept it for this year's tour. It must be expensive transporting it, though.

I read somewhere it was around $350,000 maybe it was in URB. I am not sure though...

Wheres the beef?
08-02-2007, 04:03 PM
Just my :2c on this but....

I think that it was a better that it was Coachella than some European Festival because at something like glastonbury or creamfields they would have just been another act. They really stood out at Coachella because the dance acts are typically not as big as they are the European festivals (or there are not much of them) the Sahara tent is only 1/4 of Coachella stages but at a typical European dance festival its gonna be all EDM all the time at all stages.

I think the bootleg was probably the most influential thing to spread the word like someone else said. When my friends came back to the campground and tried to explain to me what happened I just couldnt grasp it. It wasnt until I saw the bootleg that I was like "wow".

'soulwax' is the name of the group. nite versions is an album they did consisting entirely of remixes ('nite versions') of songs off their album 'any minute now'. they extended the term 'nite version' to their remix of justice. I think that's awesome!

You guys should definitely check out Soulwax Nite Versions. Incredible record. They were in my top 3 acts I saw at coachella this year.

yeah I did that too... or rather, I caught most of soulwax's set, then tried to make it over to rodrigo y gabriela for el diablo rojo, but their tent was overflowing and I couldn't see a thing. I was really pissed off about that conflict, since these were two of the acts I was looking forward to the most. still, I had seen ryg twice last year in san francsico, so it wasn't a huge loss.

those are the light-up ones. I've read that they're too heavy/uncomfortable to wear for a live show, so they had simpler versions made that don't have all the LEDs, and are probably a bit cheaper. hence you don't see them light up during the shows.

still. $65,000.

Hey how is the mezzanine anyways? I'm really looking forward to seeing Justice but the pics are few and far between on what the inside looks like. I know. they always are. I saw them twice last year. their first two san francisco performances ever, nonetheless. first time I took a friend who didn't know what she was in for. (I barely knew what I was in for). next time around, we each dragged two more people along with us for a total of six. if their shows hadn't gotten so expensive, that pattern would probably have continued.

it was a tough choice, but ryg who I had seen twice and am likely to see again, vs soulwax who I had seen once and might never have the chance to see again...

I really need a bootleg of this show, they were on top of their game, and I was about 4 rows from the barricade, and i saw Kavinsky and Sebastian walkin by...i unfortunatly missed Busy P and wasnt able to go to the Green Dolphin tonight...but luckily that DP show made up for missing out on it. I got some pics and vids, but i wont be able to post anything for a week as im on here on "vacation" too.

PS: MIA blew her voice in LA and she blew ass.

sorry, not new material like from a new cd or anything, just new types of mixes and beats that they didnt do in LA. It was rather different than the LA show, i was expecting the exact same show but id say 80 % was the same, 20% new mixes.

the lights were different too from what i can remember. I was really close so this time i could see everything, as opposed to just the right hand side of the stage like in LA... The audience were going nuts for every song, jumpin up and down and the encore was the same as usual, and well taken in...fuckin awesome. i got a good video of them rockin out with them on.

The Red Rocks shows was amazing. The venue..you can't possibly ever have a bad seat there. I was middle, probly row 20..or 30...i dunno. But I saw everything perfectly.

And it was awesome meeting the 'bots after the show! Really unexpected surprise it was. They were with DJ Falcon on their way to the after party. After a quick hello with me and some others who were there too, I managed to ask Thomas if they were coming back to FL this tour. He said not anytime soon.
But i just HAD to ask... haha

Now, if only Massive Attack makes a stop there on their next tour...

and rodrigo and gabriela was the broiest show I saw at all of coachella. i thought it was going to be empty and i could lie down and relax but it was brohan central in that bitch. they're really talented but their shit gets old mad quick.

Most ignorant statement ever. Those are two of the best, most soulful musicians I have ever seen live. It doesnt seem like they are making music, just for the sake of music. They are making music bvecause that is what they were meant to do! I do realize how retarded and cheesey the sound, but seriously, the vibe they gave off was... real. They are not pretentious, they are not conceited, in fact they are quite humble, and they are both incredibly skilled guitarists. Obviously, Rodrigo plays lead guitar, but Gabriela guitar playing is unlike any I have seen before. Anyone who was close enough to see them will know what I am talking about.
I wasnt sure what to expect in terms of the tent being full. It was pretty full by the time they started... but not completely. By the end it was flowing WAY over capacity. I had some friends way the hell back who told me after they were over how far back it actually went. People were lifting up the sides of the tent and climbing scafolding to get a better view.
I also wasnt sure what to expect in terms of a show. Its just two people playing acoustic guitar. But wow... they blew me away. Their chemisty together on stage is amazing. And its just two people there. Putting their entire heart and soul into the music, for the people. Hmmm... kind of remind me of another duo who people here seems to love quite a bit...

Wheres the beef?

Like. Ever. Not only by Daft Punk. Best song. Ever.

That Mix is different from the one in Seattle though, it didnt have the extra bass break down... and I think there is some extra effects playing the same thing as the guitar solo.

Thats it... I am going Vegoose! No questions about it!

no rumors, I just feel that it won't happen again soon. this was their second stint in the US for nite versions. I don't expect them to do another round until they have new material, and who knows when that will be. also, at that point they might no longer do the nite versions stuff.

as opposed to rodrigo y gabriela who seem to be touring constantly, in ever larger venues. actually I just downloaded some video of them at glastonbury. good stuff, although apparently the bbc decided to broadcast mostly the covers and less of their own music.

fober
08-05-2007, 07:48 AM
I agree about the Nite Versions. Unless Soulwax make a concerted effort to switch over to the Nite side, they probably won't record another one of those albums before another studio record, resulting in a lack of Soulwax Nite Versions shows.
