With a great new album and enough hits to satisfy people of any generation it's time for him to get a headlining gig

I like Petty and would watch him, however he tours pretty constantly. If coachella is going to get a classic rock headliner it needs to be a uncommon get ala a Macca, Waters, or a Simon and Garfunkel.

Well, given they have just finished a only moderately successful US tour, it would not be unique. Given the reviews of the last album and tour were so-so, I am not for it. They would be relatively expensive compared to a more contemporary headliner like Arcade Fire.

There would have to be a lot of headliners not available before I would be asking for TPATH.

Tom should really be considered for the veteran headline act that coachella seems to always have. He has the best band in rock and roll and at least it is music that people can get into and enjoy without feeling like the set is taking forever. No one can honestly tell me that Roger Waters or Jack Johnson was a better grab than Tom and crew would be. My thoughts are if Jack Johnson can headline this festival then just about anyone can. And a side note Mecca tours pretty regular throughout......

I can honestly tell you: Roger Waters was a better grab than Tom Petty would be. And comparing Tom to JJ is just stupid..

I've seen Tom Petty live about 5 times and it's been killer everytime! I would be down for him headlining a night.

Oh btw, Jack Johnson is crap.

I wouldn't be pissed if Petty headlined, i'd go watch but he is not better than Rogers. Give us The Wall.

Leave Petty for Bonnaroo

Tom should really be considered for the fiirst ever duel to the death/sunset slot w/ Bob Dylan. The winner getz to perform, the loser stops filling our ears w/ live music.

Out of the 4 years ive been, Roger is still one of the best performances ive ever seen... so im not sure where ur headed w/ that. Jack Johnson has been a part of the Coachella lineup for sometime now, and w/ the popularity and mass amounts of headlining and touring he was doing already it was inevitable.

You can wish and post about T.P. all you want, him headlining in my opinion is a very far stretch. But dont come on here and make fucktard comparisons.

Tom Petty is great, and I would watch if he headlined, but I see him headlining Stagecoach before they would book him for Coachella.

Tom Petty is great live! His new album is very good and he would be a wonderful act for Coachella. Even young people would recognize his songs and the older attendees would love it. He puts on a great show and seems like he enjoys performing unlike some people who act like they are doing us a favor. I definitely don't think he would be better suited for Stagecoach! Tom Petty is a rocker, not a country western singer...sheesh! Headliner or not it would be a good performance for sure.

Well no doubt TPATH is a big act, but he doesn't have the iconic allure of McCartney or Waters. Hits, yes he has some. Live, he is so-so. I have seen him twice and well it wasn't bad, but it wasn't something I remember as outstanding. All just opinions but...

Also, I think he is more likely to be a Stagecoach headliner. Even Tom Petty said the last album had tracks which sounded more like The Allman Brothers and was blues-based. I just don't think Tom Petty is a great Coachella headliner.

This. It's not so much that I wouldn't want to see him as he's just not quite the fit.

Not my cup of tea... I mean I just can't see him fitting into Coachella a set from him would just seem random and out of place. Would definately attract a different type crowd though.

Have you ever been to Coachella? Tom Petty is solid, but definitely not the right fit.
