Since people are already bored of speculating whos going to be added in the comming weeks of this years Coachella...

So why not look forward to 2009?
Go a head give it your best shot!

My Prediction (for headliners):

Arctic Monkeys
Beyonce
Nirvana
Yes... it will be a four day festival.

2009 should be a big year. 10th anniversary and all.

Isnt it technically its 9th year? Considering there was no Coachella 2000. Or are they just gonna put that fact aside?

the fact that they skipped in 2000, it makes the 2009 festival the TENTH festival that they would be having. If they didn't skip 2000, then that would make 2009 ten years since the original festival, but the eleventh festival overall I think.

based on the overwhelming anticipation of Jack Johnson by Coachella faithful this year (as determined by a Golden Voice scan of number of threads and posts with his name in it), Dave Mathews will be booked early to headline 09'

Ardentbiscuit
03-23-2008, 04:39 PM
2009 is going to be Jack Johnson returning for a command encore performance.

Dave Matthews, playing solo, with his band and with special guests in a special 4 hour headlining spot.

And the final day will be the amazing Bon Jovi Vs. Widespread Panic music duel. But don't worry they will be an amazing high production stage, light and laser show to back it up.

And they will add a magic tent in 2009 with Paul Tollett doing a full day of tricks (probably up his sleeves).

That's what I predict so far.

it's not about the festival any more. it's just a game about trying to predict the festival. by 2015 bookies will be taking bets for all major festivals. by 2025 some of us will be on the streets because we gambled away our savings. (because face it, our predictions, and often even confirmations, are crap).

JSam67

10 year anniversary is going to inevitably invoke high expectations. Especially after what was considered a relatively down year in terms of headliners.

I really think MBV will be there, they're not doing anything U.S. this year, Coachella is early (as in for a one-off and play some U.S. dates later...maybe) and you know Paul T has been begging for years. I don't trust that crazy motherfucker Kevin Shields at all, but I really think they're the likely headliner next year.

Prince

are my predictions for headliners. I wouldn't be surprised if The Prodigy, Madness and My Bloody Valentine were there next year too. JSam67
03-26-2008, 10:57 AM
Well, if you think MBV, Muse and The Prodigy are reasonable, those are 3 of the 4 I put up there. Arcade Fire if the album is ready '09, though it might not be til '10. Prince is likely too; if the hip surgery thing wasn't clouding things, I think he'd be there this year. I could definitely see Daft Punk or Massive Attack being there, too (and maybe Royksopp).

I think the unreasonable ones are The Smiths, Zep, Boards of Canada, and probably Talking Heads (but I still have hope for them, who, btw, I'd see over Prince 100 times out of 100).

:)

Seriously.

I think next year is the year of BOWIE or maybe Paul Mccartney (Mccartney might be very likely actually considering he has an album due out that summer and it would be good publicity for him) but don't discount something lame like a No Doubt reunion / :

Friday
Muse
Sigur Ros
Pavement

Saturday
No Doubt
Massive Attack (closing out the main stage though)
My Bloody Valentine

Sunday
Bowie or McCartney
Franz Ferdinand
Bloc Party

but really fuck this we get to see Prince in less than 2 weeks!!!

Oh mang, Pulp needs to play Coachella. They were the festival band back in the day, and the fact that they have never played Coachella, even when still together, is fucked up. A reunion tour in 2009, starting with Coachella would own all. Every real Pulp fan in America would have to come, just like for Portishead this year, and it would make the fest even more attractive to all those foreigners. Yeah, I've said it all before, and I'll do it again. And again. It's like Portishead...the only way anyone would ever get to see Pulp in America is at Coachella.

I think making an entire list is stupid because its always going to be colored by that person's particular tastes. I couldn't possibly come up with a solid lineup since there are so many artists each year that I'm not a real fan of, but are obviously a good "Coachella" band.

That said, Boards of Canada is way overdue. Way. Overdue. But I doubt Goldenvoice hasn't been trying to get them for years since every year its the same thing "BOARDS FOR 200X!" We probably have to accept the fact that they don't want to come.

Bowie for '09 is a great choice. I'd love to see a reunited Pop Will Eat Itself, but thats so far flung a pipe dream it'll never happen.

I would kill for The Jam to reunite for next year. And not the Paul Weller-less version that toured the UK last year. I want the original line-up. That would be the greatest possible band for me.
I would also love to see The Damned, Sham 69, New Order playing a Joy Division set, Elvis Costello, MF DOOM, Sage Francis, various Wu-Tangers, Sinnead O'Connor, Siouxsie, The Specials, Kate Bush, Immortal Technique, and though I know they both played there before, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Sonic Youth.
Maybe a reunited Oingo Boingo. They would set it off.
There are so many possibilities and the great thing about coachella is that any of it could come true.

OINGO BOINGO!!!
The Avalanches

Death From Above 1979 (reunite, dammit!)
English Beat (with Rankin' Roger & Papa Saxa!)

De La Soul

Supergrass
Violent Femmes
Zach De LaRocha

Some GREAT ideas mentioned:
"Morrissey (get over it, Smiths is never gonna happen)"
"New Order playing a Joy Division set"

Not so great ideas:
Talking Heads (won't happen & if it did, David will scar everyone involved)

Do people really believe Brian JonesTown Massacre will really play Coachella?
Apparently no one has really watched the movie about their/his "groups."

(check his myspace for tour dates)

Alright, yeah, I did watch "Dig" and this is some weird unrealistic hope of mine. It could be legendary, but most likely disastrous. But I do think that the ego-trip of playing Coachella would be appealing to Anton.

And correction: New Order can't come to Coachella. My brain forgot, because it can't accept, that they broke up. Things are quite bitter. May never see them play again...

If De La Soul or A Tribe Called Quest or the Pharcyde is not at 2009, then GV will have made a massive mistake.

Please bring good hip hop back to Coachella!

I agree that they need more hip hop, but all three of those bands are playing Rock The Bells this summer.
I wouldn't wanna repeat of a show I saw less then a year earlier.

And Oingo Boingo, right? Oingo Boingo + a SoCal audience = party of the year.

Agreed on the hip-hop, it was real low-key this year. Dilated Peoples, Wu-tang Clan (or any solo), EPMD, Cyne... MF Doom needs to make a return too.

Cut down on the Ed Banger stuff, I like it but seriously it was overkill this year. Get Enduser to play, cause some breakcore chaos. Or even just one industrial-ish performance would make good with me.

Other random (and possible) artists I'd like to see:

- Angels of Light/Michael Gira (We've had Akron and Devendra, maybe it could lead up to this...?)
- Melt~Banana
- Negativland (they probably wouldn't do it and I wouldn't even be sure how it'd work out, but still...)
- James Plotkin (or even one of his bazillion sideprojects)
- Rhys Fulber/Conjure One (see above)
- One of Al Jourgensen's final projects (RevCo, Pailhead, damn, anything)
- Controlled Bleeding
- Earth
- Neurosis
- Babyland
- Crystal Castles, or some other chiptunes project, such as Bit Shifter or Fighter X

I'm guessing it'll probably be Muse or Modest Mouse as the "big names" next year. Can't think of any reunions.

MF Doom sent his hype man to lip sync a show here in Atlanta last year, and he actually lives here. Way to mess with your local fans. It was pretty shitty. Leave him off of your wish lists.
