Wait, now I'm confused. And, not speaking for everybody, but seems to me that just a short time ago the little guy in the mouse head was the shit. And now everyone hates him? I'm just curious why all of a sudden. Is it because he's burnt himself out on the drugs and declined in his performance, or is it because he basically was like a 1-hit wonder. I've seen him 3x and always had a good time. But of course I'm dancing and not analyzing every note he drops, so there's that to consider. It just seems a shame that instead of encouraging him to get his shit together with positive enforcement, or just not listening to him, everybody would rather see him die off. That's kind of fucked up...

Llama of Time

Whoa whoa wait, why does everyone hate him?

I mean I haven't seen him live or anything but seriously, we are wanting him to die? him to cancel dates?

why?

BD: It's because at first he wasn't rammed down everyone's throats and wasn't at every fucking event w/o fail. He had/has some decent tunes, but they really all sound very very much alike. I think too many people have also had bad experiences with the type of crowd that GUSHES over him. He very well could just be dehydrated from having the flu and stretching himself too thin, but you know how the hate parade around here works. I have chatted with him online a number of times and he's always been friendly and answered everyone's questions. The people that are on here talking shit are more than likely jealous that they cant find the kind of success that he has. No matter what they think of his tunes.

boarderwoozel3

He's got a number of fun electro-house tunes on record but his live performance falls flat, for me anyway. It's irritating to see him to get such high billing and deliver the same average set to high praise.

no everyone is just jumping on a hate bandwagon. deadmau5 has always been mediocre, nothing more, nothing less, and still is. i've had some fun at sets of his in the past so i have no reason to dis on him. i've no desire to see him again tho, but i really dont give a shit enough to hate on him like people here do.

Well, I will agree that the crowd gushes, which is all the promoters see. ($$$) But, to those like myself who don't make it to a lot of shows, getting to see him has been fun and not the same ol' shit. It's just a shame that he's not taking care of himself or overdoing whatever while trying to keep up. I wouldn't write him off just yet. In time, he'll get all caught up and comeback to blow more minds...if he really wants to, that is.

This. I'm seeing him for the first time in October (well, hopefully I guess) and I'm really excited. he may get old if you go to a lot of shows but for someone like me who doesnt, he looks like a lot of fun. I like his music (Sure I don't gush over it but I like it) and i think itll be fun live.

eh, I fear that this will result in alot of acts with really accessible/borderline pop-ish acts becoming famous over live gigs with stellar production. There would be many more deadmau5s, DPs, Justices, etc etc

And thats bad right? Its not their fault if thats the kind of music they create and people dig it. Then, they want to take it a step further and make it an experience in the live setting, rather than just standing there with a couple of cdj's and a laptop and bobbing your head.

I agree in that there's no way to filter the good from the bad. But even so, we're in the midst of a global resurgence of edm--albeit grounded in electro--and I'd like to see it go as far as possible while the spotlight is brightest. The money is there. Do something spectacular while you can--my thoughts anyway. For better or worse the fiver has and I hope more DJs do the same, but with more engaging music, preferably.

The great thing is the fiver is playing on the same stage right before plastikman at Pukkelpop. Talk about being upstaged. I want as many fiver fans as possible to hang around and be made to understand what progressive audio-visual ingenuity can really produce in edm.

I'd have absolutely no problem reliving that night in 2006 in the Sahara tent when that pyramid touched down and everyone's arms went up, believe that.

You almost sound like you're not sure which wagon to hop on. And, I never thought of it as being upstaged when you come on before the main or last act...Come to think of it, I've seen quite a few opening acts outshine the headliner before. You could end up being schooled, which in this case would mean an awesome show for you in the end.
