Does Control typically sell out? We wanted to make this our first trip out to Avalon and seeing as presale is at $20 right now, probably just pay at the door.

Devin the Dude
07-28-2010, 04:33 AM
I'd get presale for this one, and show up before 10 or 11 because after then it's no guaranteed admission even with presale. It usually gets really fucking crowded on popular nights. Aoki sold the place out, if that tells you anything. Wolfgang is getting really, really popular. Either way, I'm in it to win it for this night since I've missed the fucker three times now, I gotta get down at this show. See you there. :)

No, it goes up in price when they keep selling more tickets. It started at $10, went to $15, $20, and now $25. It will stay there, thats how much theyll charge at the door also.

Nope it gets higher the later you show up too. Grum/Felguk at the door was $35 at midnight.

Last time I went to Control, it was posted at $25, and I was walking in at about midnight. Probably depends on the Dj as it is.

Yeah, its very dependent on the DJs. Last week was as packed as ive ever seen it, and this should draw similar numbers.

suprefan

You wonder how bad Major Lazer is going to be. I doubt they would even start selling tickets at $10 as it is.

The Avalon books great stuff, but they are awesome at ripping you off and making you feel like a douche for even showing up..

this might save you guys a few bucks but like it says in the post you really, really, should plan on getting there EARLY. before 10 for this guestlist. once it runs out tickets at the door are gonna be running ~$50!

you know the helpful part of that link is the set times.

SET TIMES:

HARVARD BASS 11-1230
WOLFGANG GARTNER 1230-2
SKRILLEX 2-330

No, my point is, I am not doing this again. I am not showing up to the fucking Avalon 3 hours early to hear a bunch of shitty DJs I couldn't care less about and wait, presumably having to get wasted with the rest of the brofist crowd simply to entertain myself and only to not remember Wolfgang's 90 minute set that should have been 2 hours an hour earlier. Not to sound bitter, they've had some dank shows, but that place blew up too fast and now it's just no fun.

suprefan
08-11-2010, 04:05 PM
Ok, when I have gone, I showed up an hour before the act I wanted to see went on. It took a good 30 minutes to get in, just hanging out for 30 mins before who you wanna get down to isnt the worst thing in the world. And I am sure you just dont want to think your evening is going to begin at like 11pm or so. you seem to forget, THIS IS L.A. EVERYONE SHOWS UP LATE. Midnight is prime time...

08-11-2010, 04:26 PM
You should get tickets asap. Avalon popularity is through the roof now. Small acts don't matter anymore that place gets packed with hipsters! Plus it will always cost more at the door. Have fun guys, I think I have to sit this out.

Oh and Jeremy didn't know it was for your bday! We'll have to celebrate another time :D

a) learn how to handle your alcohol.
b) if wolfgang had wanted two hours, he would have it.
c) harvard bass is at least decent.
d) bring some friends and just ignore the bros.
e) grow a pair. do you have a curfew or something?

I've actually decided not to go, i really wanted to but the packed factor made me decide not to attend this. We will have to party another time indeed.

This made me lol extremely well.

JUST PUT UP WITH SHITTY CROWDS. IT'S TOTALLY WORTH IT. YOU MUST GO TO SHOWS LIKE THIS OR YOU HAVE NO BALLS.

Excuse me for not wanting to spend $30 on a clusterfuck of brohsephs and hoesephs. I actually feel sad to say that my amazing friends can no longer make up for that place. If I was in L.A., I'd be at Govinda anyway, where I at least know that even if I only care about one artist I'm not going to have to hang with a shady crowd all night waiting for that one act.

You guys are seriously the most unbelievably nitpicky douchebags sometimes.

Oh, and you're so O.G. Andrew. Sorry for not being older than I am? What do you want me to say here?

The line for everyone who didnt have tickets was down the block for starters. Will call took only half an hour luckily. And yeah, it had to have been worse. It was a $40 cover. how much was Rusko?

Last night was F*cking Ridiculous!! I don't think that place can ever get that packed again it was just wall to wall people everywhere in that place! Thank God I found a decent spot on the rail in the balcony where their was room to dance and just an epic view of that crowd, Wolfgang threw it down last night fo sho!! the will call wasnt bad for me at all, got there around 11 and made my way through the line in 5 minutes

no idea.

As for the Avalon argument.... I lived in LA for four years before moving back to SF last September and Avalon was only consistently relevant for the last year and a half or so. Yes, they sporadically had talent but it wasn't even open every weekend and when it was it was hardly crowded. I would say it picked up when they started collaborating with promoters like insomniac and HARD and rallied off the success of EDC

Wolfgang might have had the most energetic set ever at Control last night. It was one of the best crowds ive seen outside of the Sahara.

He did better at EDC, and everyone was crazy because they were drunk and rolling.

Clubs that have longevity like Avalon go through cycles. Andrew is right, it was big in 2001-2002. For awhile everyone hit Spundae at Circus in the 2003-2004 period. Then Vanguard came along and took the top spot. Now Avalon is the place to be again. This stuff is all very natural.

It was. Easily 2000+ people packed into a club that should only hold 1500 at the most. And it went to 5am.
