I'm sure that I'm missing some good ones, but these are the 10 that I came up with.

you're right. they both did have some good stuff come out in the 80s though.

I was thinking talking heads were more 70s but maybe they are 80s.

I'd go with Talking Heads as well. But, Sonic Youth did their best work in the 80s. There were plenty of amazing bands in the 80s. Replacements, Big Black, Husker Du, Butthole Surfers.

Holy damn.

I would have to say, this poll is one of the harder ones to make a choice. All the bands are great (and missing some others as well that should be there).

Is there a way to make a poll where you can choose multiple items, while holding you control/command key down?

Just wondering...

the poll maker can give you that option (no need for ctrl key).

the choices in this poll are so bad i didn't vote for any of them. (edit: that doesn't mean I don't like any of the bands. I do like many. But best of the 80s? no. see my competing poll).

I saw Depeche Mode several times from 1982 to 1988. They affected me enough to have me care passionately about what they do 25 years later so I voted for them.

Kraftwerk may have been an option if not for the fact that Computer World is the only good thing they did in the 80's. Electric Cafe is nigh unlistenable.

The title of the thread VS the choices on the poll threw me off. Remember, I look back at the 80's and recall Van Halen, Def Leppard, Metallica, and Whitesnake. You know... The dudes with all the hair and stretchy pants. Now, Best of the 80's Alternative bands would have been a better title, no?

he's sooo dreamy, they played a fest here in miami called Bang! and i was so excited to finally see them, i worked my way to the front and had my fingers crossed that he would wear something sparkly

he did!! a blazer with the union jack on it but in sparkles, and his hair was flawless of course

M Sparks
02-02-2008, 01:45 PM
pet shop boys do not belong on this list

I've seen half the bands on this list, and PSB was the second best (after The Cure, ahead of DM, Beasties, & The Police.)

This list has a lot of problems, but PSB is not one of them. They wrote some of the best pop songs ever, and their live shows are crazy-good to this day. Although, they didn't really hit their peak until the 90s IMO, so maybe that's why they shouldn't be on here.

Now, there's about 10 OTHER bands I'd put ahead of them, but they are one of the best things on this PARTICULAR list.
