I think it is Dead Weather for me but I was not really impressed with their new record. Love them live though. Not crazy about Them Crooked Vultures record either but have never seen them live. Anyone?

They absolutely destroy live.

Wow. This is a really tough one. I guess I'd have to say The Dead Weather, just because of the ferocious quality of their live shows. Josh Homme just doesn't have a magnetic, fierce stage persona. And I need that in a frontperson.

Allison alternately scares the shit out of me and makes me fall in love with her throughout each of their shows. And the times when she duets with Jack (Will There Be Enough Water at Coachella, for example) the chemistry between them is mesmerizing.

TCV is great, but at no time at their shows am I truly entranced. I'm just having a great time rocking out and watching three talented musicians go to town.

I love 'em both and I've seen 'em both. Also a huge QotSA, Foo, Stripes, Racs, and Kills fan.

In my opinion, The Dead Weather is much better in concert, simply because of the charisma of both Jack White and Alison Moshart. Josh is too stationary in general... if Dave were to come out and rock the mic & guitar for a song or two, the way Jack does.... it would probably be a tie. He's a madman both on the skins and as a frontman.

It's really arguing semantics, though, since both bands are significantly more impressive than what passes for "rock" today.

Josh Homme just doesn't have a magnetic, fierce stage persona.

He is easily my favorite frontperson when Im at a show. His dry sense of humor, crowd interaction/appreciation, and his man's man demeanor. He's a total badass.

In terms of a supergroup, TCV win. But both are very good in terms of the members of the band and the music they make.

This seems to be boiling down to whether you want to ride Josh Homme or not. Fair enough.

I think some bands benefit from two frontpersons - TDW definitely does. KISS is one of the more successful touring bands with two frontmen, and having both Gene and Paul take on different songs (and schtick) makes for a better show. Alison and Jack complement each other very well, imho. Too bad Meg didn't have more Alison in her!

Saw the Dead Weather here in Japan this year and it was amazing. Gonna get tickets to see TCV at a 1500 seat venue here in July too....so we will see. TCV has another album coming out eventually and I hope it is better than the first.

I suppose perhaps next year, both bands will no longer be around but who knows? Maybe I should check out some Chickenfoot or something.

Not really. I've walked away from two QOTSA sets (I don't care for them but I tried) but I heart TCV and regret missing them here.

The Kills are atrocious, self indulgent tosh.

I don't care how old John Paul Jones gets, he flippin rocks it on any instrument he touches!!!!! And Dave Grohl slammin on the drums?????? Are you kidding! Josse Homme is a showman with an excellent voice and great musical skills, and I do not care what anyone else here says...they are together a magnificent blend! Super group for sure! They are my current fave group period and I love most kinds of music! (no country, no country, no country...is that really music???) I spent $300.00 to see Them Crooked Vulture for about an hour at Coachella (my first Coachella ever:-) this year and 2 days after I got my ticket I saw they were doing a full show in Vegas!!! Coachella was of course worth it but I may never have even gone if Them Crooked Vultures were not playing! Now I will be a Coachella junkie for the rest of my life and I owe it all to Them Crooked Vultures:-)

Don't get me wrong...Dead Weather rocks it like crazy but comparison to Them Crooked Vultures......NO WAY!!!

I thought it would be amusing to post some pics of Grohl's kit with TCV. Apparently he hits the drums so hard they have to put sandbags on the bases of the stands so they don't move or fall over.

I bet they did. You lucky bastard. That was probably one of their last shows in the states for a while. I heard that the Kills are working on a new album and it should be out next year. And I know that Little Jack has some dates playing with the Greenhorns towards the end of the year. I hope that their is more from the Dead Weather.

Saw them both at ACL and was blown away by TCV. Dead Weather just didn't really entertain me and Alison seemed like she was fucked up or something during the set (she was laying down and rolling around, but maybe she always does this). That said their musicianship was good but they didn't leave me wanting more. So at Coachella I had to see TCV and I chose to skip Dead Weather

I read in an interview she absolutely dreads playing festivals in the heat, I guess she is having trouble hiding it too. Their set time and stage at Coachella was perfect.

I'm voting for The Dead Weather by the way. TCV do nothing for me. I've listened to that album 3 times and it was just sort of meh to me.

I was watching a bunch of The Kills videos the other day and came across their 2008 Lolla performance. She almost passed out because of the heat. But I still think that she is rad. You can actually here her say "I'm gonna faint, I'm so thirsty". I was at Lolla this year and didn't think that it was that hot but I guess I can take my shirt of and dump water on me.

Where did you see the DW that she was hiding from the heat?

"Supergroup" usually just implies a collaborative effort among artists from other known projects. I think members of the Kills, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Greenhornes, and White Stripes collaborating is enough for that.
